@velkavrh I doubt that, is that again some of their ways, because when you arrive at Vrata you pay 1x or before 4.00 a.m. 0 euros.

@VanSims

Austrians (and generally abroad) charge for parking only when there's really something up there to see, either a developed parking lot with some catering or accommodation facilities, some real attraction, a starting point for many hikes and peaks,... And even then, of course, they'd rather not.

This weekend I was at the Falcipieri via ferrata in the Pasubio massif above Vicenza in Italy. So: the road to the starting point (Bocchetta Campiglia) is asphalted, but already quite damaged and potholed. The parking lot is arranged, but at the top there's no catering facility, just a kiosk where products from the nearby alpine pasture are sold. There is a parking meter - 5 euros per day. But of course it's true - that parking lot is the starting point for hikes to one of the holiest places of Italian memory of the First World War and is therefore always quite crowded, regardless of road quality or catering offer.
And in practice, in my opinion, it's more about supply and demand. The parking space is limited, there are many visitors, so they eventually introduced parking fees. So, the fact that abroad parking fees are collected only on developed tourist roads with full infrastructure is not entirely true.

It hasn't happened to me either that they bothered me for a ticket on the way back from Blato, and I go up there several times a year.

So, @velkavrh - I'm really curious if you have firsthand information, or did someone tell you that?

Don't pay on the way back from Blato. These are again some hair-pulling tricks of the "road workers", if they really charged you.
I'm also surprised they charged you on the way back.
But these Bohinj people are unbelievable, when it comes to collecting all sorts of things they always refer to TNP, but when it comes to getting building permits or demolishing illegal buildings, they'd leave TNP. And understand that if you can... a bunch of rascals. nasmeh

How much do you pay (per day?) for parking at Koča pri Savici and how much at Dom v Lepeni?

At Savica 3e, you can leave the car for several days for that price....for Lepena I don't even know if they collect, a few years (2-3) ago they didn't.

Are they still collecting parking fees in Vrata valley? What about Koča pri Savici, for pl.Blato I know they do it on nice weekends well into autumn. On Vršič now no collectors on the weekend.

In Tamar they collect an ecological tax. It's collected by the Ski Association, I think it's just a ticket for viewing the construction site in Planica.

Oh, how they rip you all off. Ecological tax? So can you drive in Tamar now?

As for Vrata, when they collect it in season: drive past, make sure the parking guy in his shack doesn't fall under your wheels, park at the lower lot and head off on the forest path to the hut and then onwards where you're going.

Most parking fees can be nicely avoided or there's some other free starting point.

Abroad they're more sophisticated: various automatic barriers that close behind you when you arrive at the parking and of course nothing says how much it costs,...

In especially underdeveloped parts of Europe like south Italy you'll find some beggar who pretends to collect parking fees like at the parking under the cable car at Etna (watch out if anyone goes there, he's very aggressive and plays the parking guy well).

To revive this old topic a bit...

Yesterday morning they also put up a sign for paying parking fees in Kamniška Bistrica in front of the hut at the parking, one was short parking, don't remember how long, I think 3 eur, daily car 10 eur and motorhome 25 (?). Later they covered the sign with black vinyl, for now it's not active yet, but it will be in the future.

Get ready and use this starting point before they start ripping us off here too.

I agree with a small parking fee e.g. up to 5 eur per day, but 10 really doesn't seem fair to me.
