On this principle herd immunity works. There will always be a certain % of people who cannot get vaccinated for justified health reasons (reading pseudoscientific articles and Facebook conspiracy theories doesn't count). With a sufficient percentage of vaccinated population, the spread of the virus or disease is proven effectively stopped, and at the same time we protect those vulnerable individuals who cannot get vaccinated (once again, being a selfish idiot susceptible to anti-vax propaganda doesn't count).
