Covid-19, Ukraine

Perhaps the government measures are confused, which change with completely unpredictable dynamics and timeline.

Perhaps those who get news about the virus on social networks and forums are also confused, instead of from more balanced sources and scientific articles or summaries.

But that has nothing to do with the virus itself, where things around transmissions and course of infections are always clearer, thanks to science and constant monitoring.

Unfortunately, the catastrophic official communication here has managed to introduce even more mess into the space, instead of giving people clear answers in an appropriate and calming way based on currently known information.

@redbull: where did I mention party affiliation or what connection does it have? Anti-vaxx stance is a phenomenon that transcends political affiliation.
Regarding vaccines and development, it won't hold at all that it's the product of "a few months", mRNA technology has been "in the pipeline" for several years, but for obvious reasons they have greatly accelerated the bureaucratic hurdles in the approval process of new vaccines. https://www.statnews.com/2020/11/10/the-story-of-mrna-how-a-once-dismissed-idea-became-a-leading-technology-in-the-covid-vaccine-race/

And maybe someone smarter here knows where the usual seasonal flu is? Last year at this time I wasn't allowed to visit the hospital because of flu, just like every year, visits were banned.

Flu, stomach thing and all such diseases, that's Covid.
Simply put, for more professional, Primoži will announce.

Masks, disinfecting, not socializing probably hinder the flu too...
Even before, if you followed the measures, you didn't get it.
I only got it once in my life, and even then they brought it to my house. Despite not being exactly isolated at work.

Maybe the "smarter ones" will know more about it. nasmeh

Exactly that, because the flu infection transmission method is the same or similar to SARS-CoV-2 (aerosols and droplet transmission through air). Since flu is significantly less contagious than the new coronavirus, the measures work even better.

Dear, so measures hinder flu, but not covid-19. Where did you get that from? On what basis do you conclude that measures hindered flu. Did you wear a mask back then, constantly disinfect hands...? And on what basis do you conclude that measures don't hinder covid-19.

Becar, why do you think I didn't line up for vaccination in the fall, when some rushed, even though they had downplayed flu vaccination for years before? Similar to how they now downplay Covid vaccination.
Because I already then (as a layman) predicted that with all the anti-Covid measures it would be "hard" to get flu. It's not as contagious as Covid, which you can get even in midsummer. I don't know what's not clear to you here.
As for hand hygiene and avoiding crowds in shopping centers during flu season, anyone who thinks a bit took care of that in previous years too.

If people wear masks and follow other measures, they can't get infected. Neither with covid nor flu. We talk about illnesses when measures are not followed. What Jelko has been scolding us for all along. That we have covid infections because we don't follow measures. So, we don't follow measures, but flu disappeared anyway.

About five times more contagious, I'll say it again. Wife had it, I didn't. In the family we did no isolation, we drove to testing without masks in the car, drank from the same bottle. I know quite a few such cases. And once more. When we had flu, the whole family always had it.

"So, we don't follow measures, but flu disappeared anyway."
Most people do follow measures! And probably that's enough for protection against flu, but not against Covid. Anyway, flu season hasn't passed yet.

Your case is like that, others can be different. I know at least 6 families where everyone got Covid. And different disease courses too.

@Becar: did you test with PCR back then, or for antibodies? Or were you maybe only 2x on rapid AGT test?

That about "five times more contagious" is nonsense: flu has R-factor 1-2, sars-cov-2 around 2-3. R-factor means how many additional people each sick person infects. But then exponential growth does its thing, in combination with asymptomatic transmissions (ca. 40% of all cases), where the sick without symptoms doesn't even know they're contagious.

Just 2 rapid tests. No symptoms at all despite constant contact throughout her infection.

If the contagiousness of COVID and flu is so similar as you say @zavest, then flu absolutely cannot disappear due to these measures.

zavest9. 02. 2021 17:34:14
There's a 40% chance you simply had an asymptomatic infection. Rapid test most likely won't detect that, so without PCR test (or antibody test) you can't conclude with certainty that you didn't get sick.

Regarding flu, here's a good article: https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2021/02/covid-19-flu-season/617924/

It would be interesting to have data on whether flu has disappeared also, say, in BIH, where we know how it is with parties, taverns, schools and social distancing.

Primož, this link will convince even the worst doubting Thomases.
Otherwise, according to media reports, we are facing ever new relaxations. Official data are favorable for gradual lifting of restrictions. Obviously, the Corona page on the portal will slowly start to fade.
Quite a bit thanks to you, Primož. nasmeh
