Juliana Trail

Juliana - what a beautiful female name, and also a long-distance hiking trail around the Julian Alps, 270 km long, 16 stages. We have one stage in our annual plan, but we couldn't wait any longer, so on Saturday we did the first stage. Official start is in Kranjska Gora, start nicely marked, direction Srednji vrh, the sign also has Juliana marking, we didn't see orange markings. We walked along Sava Dolinka, the path is pleasant, easy. Views were nice towards Kranjska Gora, Višarje. Then the markings somehow started to be missing, no problem for experienced hikers, but not as marked as marked mountain paths. Maybe they will be added, maybe descriptions need to be followed more... On Srednji vrh of course nice views towards Martuljek group with Špik. We didn't know when they demolished the youth hostel and what will be there in the future. Descent from Srednji vrh, on the path waterfall, two via ferratas, third time we meet our guide.... We didn't know that in Gozd Martuljek there is also Corsica, really on foot you see more... Juliana marking disappears again, but logic directs us along the bike path towards Mojstrana. First stage, 21 km is behind us, nice day we spent. For the end also cultural program in the Alpine Museum in Mojstrana, where we met the excellent editorial team celebrating 125th anniversary of Planinski vestnik. All congratulations, beautiful magazine, super articles, wonderful pictures, no wonder it's the favorite magazine of our alpine flowers...

We managed another stage of Julijana namely from Kobarid to Bovec. Under Napoleon's bridge, path is well marked with arrows, partly with orange Julijana markers, partly overlaps with Soča path, partly also with Alpe-Adria path. Path is varied, we enjoyed beauties of Soča, on some parts we only heard it. Partly secured with cables, partly through forest. Several times over bridge, stop in Trnovo ob Soči, then to Srpenica. Last part towards Bovec mostly on road, partly went off path to get closer to Soča. Nice this stage too.

In June I hiked the first four stages. I intend to hike the whole, but in sections. Time (and other) constraints unfortunately demand their toll. Wonderful experience that I described in my web diary! Hope some advice is useful to someone, and good luck! nasmeh

hiked almost the first part of the stage. Probably not on the path, because there are few descriptions and everyone hikes a bit in their own way. I like such wandering in the unknown and I'll continue when possible, it was nice nasmeh

I finished the first stage and started the second. In between I also saw the Lower Martuljek Waterfall, to spice up the path. Pleasant and solitary through the forest, on the bike path a bit less. Nice.. nasmeh

JULIANA TRAIL nasmeh

continued the 2nd stage. Started at Dovje, where I finished the previous one. Dovje is a beautiful village, old houses, paintings on facades and wooden balconies. As they used to be. The road above the village is full of wonderful views. Everything aligned for me, sun, light and pics from height, beautiful. The road past Rogarjev Rovt is arranged, trucks hauling wood. Great wandering behind me, enjoy the story and stay healthy. nasmeh

Juliana trail- 2nd stage...Missing part of the trail not drawn on the original map. Now signs are placed from Jesenice through Pejce, to the main road behind Pl. pod Golico and past the transformer, towards Plavški Rovt. Signs are small, yellow with Juliana trail inscription. They are at every junction where there are multiple paths, thanks, well done... nasmeh

Follow the signs and leave the map if you know the path..: nasmeh

Juliana trail - 3rd stage- from Jesenice to Begunje..

I walked the trail on 22.12....The map of the planned route and descriptions attached often don't match. Also km on two GPS shows me always more than described. Regarding time, everyone uses it according to their abilities. But the 3rd stage is also very interesting and beautiful. I still had the ascent to St. Peter's church left, too many km accumulated for my leg. I enjoyed it, even though no sun in sight and met very few people.. nasmeh

Juliana trail..Rodine, St. Peter, Begunje, Radovljica...Walked on 12.1. - part of 3rd and part of 4th stage. Started at Rodine and climbed to St. Peter's church. That one remained from previous wandering. Then descent to Begunje and continuation to Radovljica. Beautiful houses and narrow roads through villages, just the views were a bit foggy. Nice trail.. nasmeh

JULIANA TRAIL - from Radovljica to Krnica, last part of 4th stage and start of 5th stage. Wonderful day with Blanka, 26.1.. Sun shone all the way, snowy meadows and mountains with white caps. This trail is beautiful. Just continuation of 5th stage not possible now due to lots of snow. Camera clicked all the way saving wonderful motifs. Enjoy the pics and imagine wandering with us, be well.. nasmeh

Juliana trail- 11th stage from Most na Soči to Tolmin

Well, we didn't walk exactly on the prescribed route, more approximately. We started at the bridge by the lake and at the confluence of Soča and Tolminka, preferred paths along Soča, rather than going right to the town. At Volčanski most we turned to the other bank of Soča, then past St. Daniel's church through village Volče, Kozaršče and Modrejce, where we descended again to the lake shore and back to start. It was really a nice loop, which we started in morning chill, no crowds on the whole path, only birdsong and Soča murmur and wonderful views of snowy Tolmin peaks accompanied us in the first part. Although this stage is considered the shortest, it took us about 14 km in the whole loop.

As said, this route variant was more our idea, base found in 11th JT stage.

Juliana trail- 5th stage, from Krnica to Pokljuka...
From Bled to Krnica we walked it still in snow. From Krnica to Pokljuka the trail is great, mostly through forest. Silence everywhere, we recalled memories of young days and dialect words. Leads through Pokljuka hole, enough signs. Just some hidden under tree leaves. Enjoy with us or go on Juliana trail yourselves. Still part of 5th stage left for next time, enough for us with Blanka. It was nice. nasmeh
