"New, nice" markings? What a shame that someone messes up such a nice path so uglily. Good thing he ran out of paint....

I also noticed markings (shitty dots) on the path to the hunting hut. I think it's an unmarked path and there really are too many signs.

This nice and easily followable little trail is literally desecrated. Judging by the size and density of the spraying, the hero(s) didn't lack spray. Obviously the intention was to mark the winter approach (probably the work was done then too), because the "marks" are quite high on the trunks. They end only at the turnoff for Zob.

This morning over Kokrško sedlo along the marked path to the summit. Where you cross the scree there are still snowfields. Best to cross them as low as possible since the snow is very hard (unless you have crampons and ice axe). Otherwise the path ahead is dry. The fixed protections are in perfect condition, the path marked with dense blazes. Believe it or not there was sun up there today.

Why do you all write Kokrško sedlo, when it's Kokrsko???

jprim, yes you're right - anyway we all know which saddle it is, right?

You understand me, we all really know about that saddle, and we all know the capital is Ljubljana, not Lubljana... not that I'm bad-tempered about it, but then our beautiful mountains will slowly get completely different names. Regards!

On Saturday we're going past the hunting hut and across Kalce to Kalška gora - since I'm with the club (leading the trip) I'm interested if there are still snowfields above Kalce (scree before reaching the marked path)? Given the snowfields above Zoisova koča I think a rope (30m) won't hurt.

Snowfields are still there - conditions haven't changed much in the ten days since I was up there. When you reach the upper flat area, don't be misled by the marks (red dots) on the two boulders left and right, which suggest a sensible passage between them, and consequently a fairly steep ascent on the snowfield. About 20-30 meters before those boulders, a passage through the bushes to an indistinct ridgelet offers itself on the right, guided also by older red dots. This way you'll completely avoid the snow until the marked path. On the marked path (before the fixed cables) there's another snowfield - bypass it below; above it's quite crumbly. Some caution on the ridge towards Kalška gora, especially on the descent to the saddle, where there's quite a bit of scree on the path. For the lower two snowfields, deploying a rope will take you more time than bypassing them below.

Gorska Koza - thanks for the reply. I'll follow your advice. At the beginning of May I was already on the Kalce via this path, but turned back below the scree (which was mostly under snow then), because I left my ice axe and crampons in the car and didn't want to risk it.

As I described the hike to Kalška gora past the hunting hut last year, we did it yesterday too. In the lower part it's really spoiled by the huge number of red circles. Higher up we continued towards Zob and along the grassy ridge to the summit. Currently there's a huge amount of alpine flowers on Kalška gora (Alpine primroses, gentians, arnicas, edelweiss, alpine bells ...) No snow on the southern slopes anymore. Most flowers are on the ridge and summit, so even those who don't know the access from Žagana peč can enjoy the wonderful alpine flower beds and the peace that you rarely experience around Grintovec.

Aja - even though there were 6 of us at the summit, none of us picked even one flower - the mountain ecosystem is much more vulnerable and delicate than the lowland one, so it already belongs to mountain etiquette not to pick mountain flowers (even if not explicitly protected )

Today I ascended Kalška gora from the Kamniška Bistrica valley via Kokrsko sedlo. The fixed protection on the path from Kokrsko sedlo to the summit of Kalška gora is in good condition. Best, Tadej

Today went up via Kokrsko sedlo. Snow 20-30 cm on 5-10 cm frozen base, quite a bit of wind-packed snow. Under the north face it slabs up to half a meter. Crossing under the wall quite uncomfortable despite 1st degree, especially right before the climbing section. Wire ropes and pegs somewhere still visible, to the summit quite steep, here without ice axe and crampons not possible. After the next snowfall the described route will be increasingly unsafe, especially regarding avalanches.

I was up on Friday 3.9., namely from Kokrsko sedlo to the summit and back the same way. Regarding last year's and previous comments about poor condition of protections, I must emphasize that now the protections are in excellent condition, reliable and everywhere they are more or less necessary. The path is of course still quite crumbly and helmet is mandatory. In the summit section quite exposed crossing of steep grassy slopes, where maximum caution is needed, as slipping here most likely means the end of the mountaineering career. Despite bad weather, the view of the edelweiss patch by the path just before the summit provides joy

Today my brother and I started from Žagana peč, past the hunting hut to Kalška gora, via Kokrsko sedlo and back to the valley. Path completely dry, except the scree field above Cojzova hut is still a bit snowy. Weather fantastic! On the wall below Kalška gora we spotted 2 alpinists. I managed to photo one. Face!
