Kamnik (861m)

Today we visited Kamnik (rocky hill you see if driving through Savinja valley past Žalec) - view to Hom, Mrzlica... We found a path that's poor or unmarked. The path leads to the rocky summit. The path from the forest goes to the rocky part, wonderfully rugged steep and a few meters really adrenaline-pumping. We drove to Prisoners' Cemetery where you can park. A local sent us straight up the hill and when we found the forest road we followed it to the rocky hill part. When we reached the vertical walls we followed yellow marks on trees - LEFT! (check pics). The path goes to vertical unprotected part then to ridge (not technical). On the ridge it joins the path from steep cliffs (few meters adrenaline when descending here later) - better use this path for ascent not descent like us - easier! So when you reach vertical walls keep right!! The path then leads along the ridge, nice and sometimes very scenic to bivouac. We returned the same way. At the junction we went further on the ridge to a bit more adrenaline descent. The path is secured - some pegs and wire cables (thinner and wobbly some places). Don't recommend to vertigo hikers but extremely beautiful passes between steep walls of Kamnik. Real morning pleasure in gentle downclimbing between steep walls. Path started at Prisoners' Cemetery (7:30 and ended 9:45 at start). Markings - except yellow no others seen. Recommend to hikers wanting some adrenaline morning in hills!
Cheers

I was on Kamnik at the beginning of April, but on the path I didn't spot any "zajl". Where did you go?

Planinček, we didn't go from the described paths (Matke). We drove past Zabukovica and started the path at the described cemetery. For the dizzy ones, still the advice - up there where we went down!! The path is not marked, but it can be found by my description - so at the rocks right not left!!
If you need any more information, tell me, no problem, I'll explain it to you.

Geppo, thanks for the reply. On Sunday I was up there with a colleague who is a bit afraid of heights, so we chose the easier variant. Two other colleagues went up the harder one and were very satisfied. Training for high mountains.

Could you perhaps for us who are not from that area write exactly where you started - from which place? And maybe a sentence on how to get to that place?

Exit from the highway at Šempeter, followed the places Šešče near Prebold and Matke, where my colleague and I started the path. My friends drove further on the road to the pass between Kamnik and Mrzlica. From there they descended to Zabukovica and somewhere found the cemetery of hostages. I think you can reach Zabukovica also from Žalec.

Today, my friend and I in the cold morning after 5 months revisited this summit.
We found the path in the forest right away - the path to the rocks (climbing part) we searched quite a bit.
It seems that Kamnik is not visited from this side (no markings) and the path traces are quite hard to find. Finally we found it and climbed up in the warm rocks illuminated by the sun. It was nice to look at the forest and the colorfulness of the leaves.
At the top we met a herd of chamois and no one else. On the way back (easier path and also unmarked) we also picked chestnuts along the way, which the wind had shaken from the trees in abundance.
Good warm-up (the path is otherwise very steep) before Sunday lunch!

We also visited Kamnik today, with the help of a local woman who was our guide. We approached on an unmarked path, but it is very nice and in the harder part secured with pegs and cable. One of the nicer summits in the Celje area. But vandals found the summit more easily, who destroyed three stamps (the Savinja path one still remains).
We descended the opposite side and along the way also visited Hom.

Approach, really hard to find without a guide. We were up there in May and today we searched the path several times. Most trouble under the wall!
Sad that vandalism spreads higher too. We weren't at the bivouac and didn't notice the destruction of the stamps.

Yesterday my girlfriend and I also visited Kamnik. I must say that the path is very interesting. We went up from Zabukovica or a bit further past the Uduč shop we turned sharp right and drove a bit further on the gravel road and then at the ramp we turned left and parked by the forest. We continued straight into the forest on the unmarked path. Soon after we came under the rock and continued right. Then followed the secured part of the path, which is in poor condition. In this part of the path I recommend using a protective helmet. I also advise against this variant of the path to Kamnik for all who are not used to such paths, mainly due to the state of the protections.
Back we went in the direction of Goljava and in the valley went through the village (whose name I unfortunately no longer remember) back to the car. This path back to the car is also unmarked, so a sense of orientation is very useful nasmeh
It was a very nice Sunday hike nasmeh

Kamnik today:
I invite Tomaž for a workout to Kamnik. He doesn't expect to crawl on rocks...cool
When we arrive at Zabukovca, Kamnik peeks a little from the black clouds, Gozdnik is covered all the time.
Near the monument we park and charge up the steep meadow across the road. The frost is thawing and it's slippery and muddy.
In the forest it's better. When we reach the rocks I notice new bolts and climbing routes. We climb a little....eeh 2m high (all is IV and more)nasmeh
Over the rocks a bit on our own and soon a strong SW wind chills us to the bone on the ridge.
Along the ridge to the bivouac the SW gusts increase. We take shelter in the bivouac and snack. We return back along the ridge and then right down the rocky slope. We lose the path and return down the steep meadow.
I manage almost a splits and it ends with a broken stick. Muddy as h... I return to the car.

Today we take our youngest on the first spring tour. We chose the easier variant from Matke, but for our youth it is the first contact with the seriousness of the rocks. Without major problems we conquer the summit and admire the awakening of nature. The path is completely dry and nicely passable.

Hi,

Since I'd like to climb this nice hill soon with my colleague, the following interests me... Does anyone have any experiences or pictures of the ascent to Kamnik from the south side, i.e., drive to the saddle between Kamnik and Mrzlica and from there start to Kamnik. For myself, I can say that I'm not very used to exposed sections, I also have problems with open space and height, but I'm trying to get used to it gradually. The ascents themselves don't cause me problems, only the descent gives me concerns. Condition is no problem. Several times this year I've already gone to Celje Grmada, which has a quite steep path leading to it, towards the top locally a bit exposed. Can someone please advise me whether to go to Kamnik or not.

Thanks and LP
Igor, Celje

Gizmo, hello.

To Kamnik from the mentioned saddle, there is no exposed spot on the path if I remember correctly. When I went up the first time, a friend with height problems went with me and arrived without issues. But it is a steep path. The exposed part is, say, on Krvavica from the south side right under the summit, if the path happens to take you there too.

Good luck!

Hello - path first on cart track, then on winding improved path to a small rocky passage and then steeply to the summit where the bivouac is. All the way through trees, well marked. On the way back, perhaps caution in wet conditions.
Nice ascent and safe return I wish you.

Thanks to both of you for the advice and thoughts. Given that I once already reached this rocky ledge but then turned back because of bad weather and darkness, I think that my colleague and I will soon, after we change the clocks, set off towards the summit in dry conditions.

I went on this path in December and think there is no change since then.
Hurry before ticks start. In the gully before the rock I already picked them so that my pants were shining!!!

Well, maybe we'll meet up there,... my colleague and I also plan to go up late afternoon next week. Now that the clock has moved it will be nice not to rush down in the dark with lights. But is the stamp on Kamnik in good condition? Yesterday I was on Grmada and was surprised when I looked at the stamper, no stamp anywhere. Well, then I saw that the rubber (stamp) worn out lies at the bottom of the box with the logbook. Since I started writing a hiking diary, I'll be glad if I can squeeze the Kamnik stamp into my collection too.. nasmeh
