Kamnik (861m)

Print
garmont23. 03. 2012 14:03:48
Today I decided to visit the hill where the respected Fran Kocbek almost 100 years ago treated vertigo.
I started the path at the parking lot at "Talci". Then across the road and up the hill. Kamnik is always in front of you, so no problems with direction. I climbed to the ridge via the jump in the wall and continued left to the summit to the bivouac. In the bivouac a new logbook and the stamp is there too.
I descended via the secured path and through the forest back to the car.
Since both paths are exposed I strongly recommend using a helmet!

If you want to go via the jump, go left; for the secured path go straight up the hill here1

Today morning on Kamnik, but in reverse direction. Descent over the jump in my opinion harder in this direction. Excellent views and solitude, solitude...

Here you really rarely meet anyone. But now the ticks will start, most of them in the dark gully under the wall...

Just informative... ticks have already started. A good week ago I was up there, one was already crawling on my hand!

Nice pics,..Garmont can you tell me, and I'm sorry for my ignorance as I started hiking last year, here on the way to Kamnik I often see the term going over "jump" or "shoulder". What exactly does it mean? Is it meant like a wall over which you have to climb or something similar? Thanks for the explanation. Otherwise the path I take to Kamnik is the one from the saddle between Gozdnik and Kamnik and I like it. How much harder is this route that you experienced hikers take? Since my colleague and I want to do this route too, I ask if for the first time we need to ask someone to lead us over the exposed parts. And one more...If you once climb Kamnik this way, is that an experience that can help you get to Kamnik Saddle from the Okrešelj direction? Regards

These two approaches from "Talcev" are relatively spicy. On the secured path there are wire ropes and pegs (as seen in pics), but they are not standard size so can't fully trust them. But this part is about 10 min long.
At the jump you go direct over the wall where it's, say, the easiest. Here no protection, over in 5 mins. But both approaches are quite hard to find, especially if you're here for the first time.
This path up and down takes about 2.5 hours.
Hope I helped.
Oh, @Gizmo you have ZS!mežikanje

Geppo, those are boulders in valley under central wall of Kamnik (where secured path starts). Height of them somewhere 8 to 20 meters. Some nice climbing.

Today visit of this nice hill.
Start at Talci and along ridge to summit to bivouac. Climbing classic "dry tooling", on ridge wind slabs and lots of snow. Track now made. To bivouac quite tough, descent on marked path OK except steepness.

Kamnik nicely passable.
At some places just need to push a bit past fallen trees.
No ticks in sight yet.

I liked your presentation of Kamnik and surrounding hills. Next time find the hunting path and make conclusion past evergreen heart in the wall.

Geppo, this afternoon when there was more light I went for the "trophy". Ivy heart is really a unique formation. Later I continued under the walls towards the west and arrived at the ridge 50m before the bivouac. I had already walked the hunting path before to Baloh, I admit I didn't notice the evergreen heart then. Thanks for the tip!
LP!
P.S. - Cables under Mali vrh torn at four places (probably lightning).

This morning Milan and I used to visit Kamnik. While "garmont" fought through snow last year, we walked in spring ambience. We trampled dry leaves under S wall to knees.
We explored vertical walls, climbed to nicely visible cave. Peeked what is hiding in it. After cca. 3 hours ended nice trip. Torn "protections" partly repaired!

Afternoon view of Kamnik for those who haven't seen it yet.
SW wind carrying leaves in air. Temp for short sleeves. Ticks quite active in such and had plenty on summit. Otherwise no special. Wires still torn as "bojson" wrote above 2014. No chestnuts just empty husks. Parasols full growth - who would pick? Those posting sheets of boletes have no space in pantry now...velik nasmeh

I go to Kamnik often. I start climbing at the beginning of the ridge to avoid the belly rock and that hollow with most ticks. Usually return via "hunting".
Would like to find evergreen heart. Can you hint a bit.
