Judging by the pics, I see the hut on Mali gori was already closed! So I invite you (whole group) on behalf of PS Kamnje to visit us again sometime - some sunny Sunday If not before, you're invited to the Easter hike to Mala gora Regards

Yesterday from Vrtovina past bivouac Črna peč to Mala gora, then to Čavna. Snow in drifts, bora blowing occasionally. Into hut to warm up, then with three more and dog head to Kuclj, on edge blowing to carry away!!! To top on all fours, return via Mala gora, by then I reach car!

Today I was first time on Čavnu, or at the hut. Unfortunately on return via hut at Mali Gori at one stop I forgot trekking poles. If someone found them and they are extra can call me 031 390 885 Matej

Today in the afternoon I couldn't rest and went to Čaven. Up to Mala gora little snow, further a bit more, on Čaven about 15 cm snow. Biggest problem on slope where detour due to windthrow and it's muddy, so it slips quite a bit, otherwise nice walk!:

It's a pity to open a new topic, but on the forum I can't find anything close (?), though it seems unusual, since you can get here from many places and many go. Or not, as it seemed today. Besides us four no one was to be seen, we chose path from Vrtovina, which seems to me not even in top 10 to Čaven. But we walked enough, a bit for vitamin D production, since sun shone half the path, and some for skin moisturizing, if not sweat then rain that started falling some 15 min before the car. Path passable, no ice effects, on top they rerouted paths from Mali Gori to hut and to Kuclje a bit differently, due to windthrow in December. But one remains stunned by ice effects, visible already from car on highway from Razdrto to Postojna and further to Ljubljana. Rest area at Lom still runs on generator...

Just as not all people are for one and the same thing, so did you that Saturday run into all the least pleasant things, from no one visiting Čaven. You met no one properly, you were alone, you four. The rerouted path from Mali Gori to hut and Kuclje didn't throw you off track. The windthrow at the end of last year didn't seem so tragic to you. Ice and all the consequences shocked you more. Our small group in the week that followed, after your Čaven visit, had much more luck, both with the weather and the wonderful sun. It warmed us pleasantly all the way from the start. The ice consequences were no longer so catastrophic. After all the bad comes better, the warm sun helped with that. We promised ourselves that when the weather is good and conditions in the forest safer, we will help those in need with clearing the numerous broken branches and trees. For all hikers, everything lying on the ground is almost deadly dangerous. You trip, break and goodbye to hikes and pleasures of mountain visits for some time. For favorite "hut" visits, some patience will be needed. LP

For 1st May, as is the custom on Čaven. From the quarry my wife and I set off at 11 a.m., which turned out to be a bit late. It was a nice day, sunlit. We walk, take photos and enjoy. We arrived at the Anton Bavčer hut on Čavnu, in the sunshine, chatted a bit with friends, ate exceptional jota cooked by the attentive keeper Zdravko, had some drinks and one short, without advertising. We leave the hut, and fogs rush like from a bonfire. We descend to the valley, thinking there won't be a thunderstorm so soon. Under Mala gora it thunders and pours like hell. No choice but to run to the starting point in the rain. From elsewhere it looked like fog on ČAVEN. We get to the car wet as ducks, but still a nice day.  Whoever reads this, it's not an ad to go to the hills too late!!!. All home happy

With my colleague we were on Čavnu for 1st May last year and the atmosphere was really fantastic. We went from Predmeja to Koča Antona Bavčerja, where quite a lot was happening. We extended the path to Kuclje on Čavnu and stopped in the hut again on the way back. But unlike this year, last year the sun really burned, especially on Kuclje it burned us. Anyway, I also recommend Čaven.

Yesterday from tunnels via Mali Gori to Čaven. Valley in fog, higher nice sunny day.
