Kokrska and Jezerska Kočna

After a few years we did the circular tour again from Kokrsko sedlo to Dolce, past the bivouac under Kočna, to Kokrska and Jezerska Kočna, then over Dolška škrbina and the saddle above Dolci, down the north side to Grintovec. This year all praise to the trail markers of PD Kamnik, very well and exemplarily marked, perhaps still missing some marking on the last scree slope before entering the rock climbing section under Kokrska Kočna. All safety gear and cables are OK. Still wondering why that famous overhanging narrow passage above the saddle (in the picture) isn't secured, since it's on this "marked and secured path" (which can also be done circular from Dolci, many less demanding spots much better secured?! Because it's a specialty of Jezerska Kočna, there will be a response, right; I don't want to start unnecessary polemics, but still something to think about for someone

No, no snow patches, just need a bit more attention because the path is poorly visible due to tall grass. But it's a very nice path, especially for those who like peace. Good luck! Boštjan

Today I went from Suhadolnik through Grdi graben to the bivouac at Kočna and then on to Kokrska Kočna and Jezerska Kočna. Descended through Dolce to Kokrsko sedlo and then back to Suhadolnik. Occasionally quite dense fog towards the top and it was blowing hard too. The fixed protections on the path are in good condition. LP Rok

Yesterday I went through Jenkova planina to Baba. Descent on the difficult path to Ledine. Haven't experienced such wind in mountains for a long time. Especially on the ridge gusts were really strong. As Rok wrote, Kočna was in fog, Baba was in the sun all the time, but due to wind still pretty cold. And on descent I met a "mountaineer" in shorts, Adidas shoes, no backpack or poles. And he brags he always flies through mountains like that.

Hi! On Tuesday (7.10.08) I was in that area, only to Češka koča but looked towards Kočna too, probably you can expect larger or smaller snow patches, not much snow actually but I recommend full winter gear and caution. Lp

Hello! On Wednesday, 15.10.08 my friend and I plan to do Kamniška Bistrica - Kokrsko sedlo - Grintavec - both Kočni - Kokrsko sedlo - Kamniška Bistrica, wondering if anyone did this route these days to hear firsthand if winter gear needed or still snow around Kočna! Thanks a lot for info and nice mountaineering autumn! Igor

On Sunday, view from Stegovnik to Kočna, summit in new snow from cca. 2000 m onwards, around Češka koča and Ledine still lots of snow. LP

I think new snow will melt fast in sunny weather, only old will stay some time. So ice axe and crampons mandatory. LP

I don't know how it is at Kočna, when I was on Friday at Češka koča the warden went to Kočna only with poles, up and down incredibly fast, you see he's used to it, chimneys still mostly in snow, I'll attach a pic.

Has anyone walked the route: Suhadolnik-Bivak-Jezerska Kočna? How is the snow situation? How are the fixed protections on Jezerska and Kokrska Kočna and between them? Thanks and best regards, k.

On 6.7.2009 I walked the route Czech Hut - Jezerska Kočna - Czech Hut. Above Czech Hut there are still some snow patches. I recommend at least an ice axe, crampons optional. Both are useful for crossing the first larger snow patch; higher up you can avoid smaller snow patches at their edge and proceed on their extreme grass strip. Fixed protections are otherwise in good condition. k

I'm interested in the circular route from Suhadolnik over Grdi graben to both Kočnas and back past Zoisova hut. Is there still any snow - dangerous snowfield, torn fixed protections? Thanks for information.

I walked the path Czech Hut - Jezerska Kočna on Sunday, 12.7. At the entry to the climbing part of the tour there is still a snow patch. I had an ice axe with me but didn't use it. Higher up there are some smaller snow patches that you can avoid. Winter gear is no longer needed. Regards!

Is there from the Czech Hut to Jezerska Kočna some harder unprotected section? I heard somewhere about a difficult summit chimney. How about the descent, is it better on the same path or perhaps over to Suhadolnik? Greetings and thanks

There is no heavier unprotected section or there shouldn't be, unless this year's snow left some "consequences". Caution is never too much, especially if there are still snow patches on the route. Difficult summit chimney, I don't know. Maybe you mean "belly crawling", which is not dangerous, requires a bit more skill but no problems. In short, interesting ascent requiring good fitness and like all high tours caution.
