Kokrska and Jezerska Kočna

Coffee's photo is definitely from the Suhadolnik direction, I'm adding one to you from the path to Kokrska Kočna, just a bit higher, turned towards the ridge that leads to Na Križu.

A bit of caution is needed and it's not quite for everyone, but it's not too serious anyway.

Kočni – Kokrska & Jezerska – up and down via Dolce from Kok.saddle,
usually one does the tris with Grintovec, but given that some connecting local paths are officially closed due to rockfalls (Taška, Dolška škrbina - Grintovec), in this changeable weather, I decide for a mini circular tour via Kočni from the Dolci cirque, up past the bivouac, over the scree and with scree from quite loaded and crumbly walls to the summit ridge, where the path then continues to Kokrska Kočna and then further to Jezerska Kočna. The fixed cables are for now quite ok and serve the purpose, just some pulled-out peg should still be glued and fixed back.
Unfortunately Jezerska Kočna is crumbling more and more and it's probably just a matter of time before a rockfall appears there too, depriving us of safe mountain visiting. The traverse under the bulging wall is still an attraction and there many who go to JK for the first time take time to think whether to take off the backpack and continue or not, … I'll write again that I don't understand all the unnecessary iron around the mountains and there, at this short and dangerous spot, no?!
From Dolci direction to Jezerska Kočna the markers have faded and need renewal, as they are barely findable even in sunny weather, while on the Jezersko side they are newly made and there are almost too many.
If you're heading on such a circular path, you need to be aware that you'll throw away quite some elevation, both the descent to Dolce from below a third of Grintovec/Ovna Čeri and then the re-ascent back, are not negligible, but for collecting views and fitness … acceptable, especially if you do such a tour on a slightly cloudier day.

Yesterday our 11-year-old went for the last SPP stamp in KSA, the crumbly lady welcomed him nicely.nasmeh
After quite a long drive, after paying 10 € (I think payment only by card) we arrive at Ravensko Kočna and then past Češka koča to the summit. I think the path itself gets crumblier every yearmrk pogled, the preduh also narrower every time.jezik
There were quite a few of us at the top, but not crowded like at the hut, where on the way back we barely caught some food.eek

Just a little more (when he carries his own backpack too), and he'll be a real mountaineer.
Boštjan, picture 21 is not Koles, but an unnamed peak that I'll measure at the first opportunity. The peak with that name is a five meters (3m) lower ruin, north of the main summit of Jezerska Kočna.
On the left is Koles 2535m, photographed from the summit 'Na Križu'.1

Usually he carries it, but since we went up and down in one day, I spared him a bit so he hiked more relaxedly.mežikanje
Tone, this Koles isn't quite clear to me now, given the height you mention on the picture, the neighbor can't be 105 m lower, you also wrote 5 m lowerzadrega, if I look at the map on this side and on my app, it says 2467 m and it is located where I wrotezmeden
According to your explanation I also photographed that one ...
a neighbor that doesn't match Koles in height and location, if the map is correct1

how is it with the via ferrata set or is it needed for any kočna

According to rules, since it's a very difficult path, it's mandatory. Of course many go without or everyone decides themselves based on their knowledge and experience.

I've been to the Kočnas only to Jezerska and only via Kremžarjeva path. On this path, the most demanding parts for me weren't the cable sections, but the crumbly, scree unprotected parts. If the secured parts on this path are a problem for someone, in my opinion it's better not to go on it, even if they have a via ferrata set. I'd say the via ferrata set doesn't help much on this path. Of course it still increases safety a bit, whether it's worth dealing with it for that small difference, let everyone decide themselves.

But it's mandatory if you decide to go to Češka koča via ferrata.

Well... PZS rules. Say, if I as a guide take hikers to Kočna and something happens to someone without SVK, there can be big problems with liability insurance. If the injured has SVK, regardless of whether they use it or not, I'm covered in that regard. If someone hikes alone, those "rules" don't play a role mežikanje

Otherwise I fully agree with the last comment. No path is even remotely as wired as Triglav, that's why in my opinion all paths are more demanding and over-relying on SVK is not advisable. Experience in such terrain and "solid nerves" are needed when there's an abyss below and no cable.

Since we're just on SVK, where would a suitable path be to get used to using SVK and not too difficult

@user0310: If you already have prior experience with some other (at least somewhat) similar path, personally I think the set is not needed.

Kremžarjeva is one of the first such more demanding ZPP that I did and I have a very good memory of it. I didn't have a via ferrata set then and at no moment did I feel the need to clip in. However, it's not suitable for beginners at all. Basically I sign under what @asdf said.

disclaimer: This is just my experience, it doesn't have to apply the same to you or someone else. nasmeh

@tomco, so far I've hiked more on "easier" 2000m (Vrtača, Stol, Storžič, Grintovec,...). I have no fear of heights and good fitness; recently I bought SVK. But I read that the most dangerous parts aren't the cable ones but the crumbly ones, although I hike carefully I'd rather not risk a fall.

Like asdf, I experienced Kremžarjeva the same way. If on this path you feel the need for SVK on the cabled parts, then I don't know how you get over those unprotected scree ones...

@user0310: it's right to have (fearful) respect for the mountain. Kočna is on quite a higher level of difficulty from the mentioned ones, so it would make sense to first add something in the difficulty range between those listed and Kočna. A few ideas: Storžič through Žrelo, Planjava, Brana, southern approaches to Ojstrica, Špik, last but not least Triglav too... Options are plenty. Basically none of those are for SVK, but they are on a higher level of technical difficulty than those you listed. For Storžič through Žrelo you can put SVK in your backpack, but it's 95% you won't need it. You can practice clipping a bit on the last 20 meters below the exit to the ridge.

When you go to Kočna, choose Kremžarjeva, as the path from Suhadolnik is currently destroyed by last year's floods in these parts (if you haven't tracked down this info yet).

Good luck nasmeh
