Konjiška gora

On 20.12.2012 there wasn't "what there should have been", so on 30.12.2012 return to the northeast part of Konjiška Mountain... called - Source:Čaž. Indistinct summit on Konjiška Mountain that even mighty "Uncle Google" recognizes in only one hit and precisely because of this unrecognizability it interested me. On the way back also a bit below the neighboring summit Babič 749 m.a.s.l. and to the larger cleared area or hunting stand. Descent along the forest road or path between quarries back to Slovenske Konjice.
nasmehYes, Stolpnik, say, would definitely be the right choice today but also something seemingly "obscure" needs to be visited and presented in the broader context of perceiving the space of Konjiška Mountain. Terrain frozen due to northern exposures, temperature below freezing, no wind and really pleasant short hiking activity.

Today I did the path from Konjice over Skala to Stolpnik and back. Since I have been here several times years ago, I was pleasantly surprised today by the new direction signs and newly marked paths. Nice.nasmeh

On Saturday I set off to Konjiška Mountain. Morning start from Konjice. At the beginning I miss the starting point and park at the upper church. So I miss the steep path and go to Skala 'around the ass in the pocket'. Still I can just before the summit descend to the junction where I should have arrived via the steep path and head to the climbing path.

The climbing path surprised me a bit. The hardest seemed to me from the intermediate rest between the pegs to the start of the last series of pegs right before the summit. In addition the pegs and cable were cold so I had to rest from time to time.

At the top nice view of Konjice, not much more visible due to clouds. From Skala I descend back to the road then according to the description from this portal further to Stolpnik. From here on I had no more orientation problems. Past the three crosses I reach a junction and head for the longer path. It takes quite a while to reach Grofov štant. Already on the road there was some frozen snow and from 'štant' onwards too so poles came in handy.

At the top of Stolpnik I meet someone who came from the direction of Črešnjice otherwise on the whole path only another 3-4 hikers. Then I climb up to the tower. The view was again covered by fog. I descend back to 'štant' then on the other side over Kamna Gora make a loop back to the three crosses. On the way back I also look at the castle then back to the car and home.

Today to the habitat of Žički grobeljnik near Žiče or Škedenj viaduct by bike... The plan was to conquer the Golo rebro summit on Konjiška mountain by bike from Škedenj at the viaduct or directly at the exit from the Golo rebro tunnel tube towards Celje but as I predicted in the preparation there were no proper continuations because anyway no marked path exists on maps... Of course I counted on forest tracks as next option but they don't exist either or quickly end in pathless terrain... From Škedenj settlement to Golo rebro connection exists and I rode about half... however there was no more real motivation due to easy path to Golo rebro summit... From Slovenske Konjice direction I presume mežikanje more MTB variant and maybe ride it on occasion... Track:Under Golo rebro/Konjiška mountain,25.07.2013 Regards

I count on a variant from some other direction to Golo rebro with more MTB character and maybe do it on occasion… wrote 25.07.2013 and after five days, 30.07.2013 return to Konjiška mountain terrains to fulfill the written words. From Slovenske Konjice and decision for track over 646m high Čaž to slightly lower 600m high Golo rebro. Čaž, hiked and explored in winter time and the summit was overlooked in broader Konjiška mountain frames and somehow I placed it on world wide web where it wasn't noticed before activity...

From Slovenske Konjice medium demanding ascent to Čaž, easier and harder variants remain but for late afternoon quite enough golden middle of difficulty. From Čaž continuation to Golo rebro not demanding, still the activity at end with final ascent above tunnel tubes completely suitable for this portal. Summit offers no views, also drilled tunnel tubes run somewhat more south in W/SW direction…

For return to valley I chose the half-done track from previous days from Škedenj settlement mežikanje mainly because of one interesting surface. You rarely meet this surface in such length as on Konjiška mountain and those are re-laid asphalt pieces removed from somewhere else and already done one life cycle. Interestingly laid pieces of various sizes and shapes, in between filled-grouted with fine gravel, partially joints also overgrown with grass, already almost art of laying and also riding especially downhill is interesting specific unique experience. Nothing, something new and pinch of extra adrenaline. Nice and interesting this extreme east of Konjiška mountain and maybe return in longer combination, today mežikanje only one section of path between Slovenske Konjice - Škedenj...

Yesterday I did quite a long track on Konjiška gora, combination of marked path and pathless terrain. Yes, pathless in the true sense as I climbed summits where there is no path or anything visible. Walked track: Žička kartuzija - Tolsti vrh - descent to Skala - marked and ascent to Plešivec - Jelenov vrh - marked to Stolpnik - descent over Grofov štant - vratca - Kamna gora - Žička kartuzija. Missed only Babič-749 m, Ribežljev vrh 879 m and Srobotni vrh. In the future, as planned, I will connect all summits. Terrain nicely dry, strong wind blowing which weakened a bit in the afternoon. Ascent on pathless terrain not too hard just here and there very overgrown so I looked for passages around. Views from all summits nice, on some a bit limited by forest. Super hike it was. Video and extensive blog post follows.

It is interesting that on the topic of Konjiška gora we announce and contribute activity records mainly ,,foreigners,,. I miss records from locals because the locals' view is certainly different. Regarding the last activity, interesting approach to the pathless world from @pohodnik38 and also positive announcement of a more concrete matter. Perhaps I would add the opinion that however it is not such a pathless world, because Konjiška gora is crisscrossed with various paths, roads, tracks... and also to the described summits or directly below the summits Tolsti vrh, Plešivec and Jelenov vrh lead paths at least in the form of forest tracks and old hunting/hiking paths... There are also many clearings. Regarding the listed summits, it is necessary to add some more summits and that is... the extreme eastern Golo rebro 600 m a.s.l. and the extreme western Jurjev vrh 674 m a.s.l. and between them also Čaž 646 m a.s.l., Vrh 727 m a.s.l., Krniški rob 808 m a.s.l., Lisičji vrh 912 m a.s.l., 888 meters high nameless summit between Srobotni vrh and Jurjev vrh and perhaps some more. Personally, if I would ,,do,, a somewhat more comprehensive connection on Konjiška gora, I would definitely include the extremes, that is Golo rebro and Jurjev vrh, in the complete story. I have been to some, maybe I will go to some more!? Personally, I am not exactly a great connoisseur of Konjiška gora, although I know the eastern part solidly. From the pathless perspective, the most interesting would be the Babič mentioned by pohodnik38, the southeastern parts of Golo rebro and judging by satellite images the southwestern parts below Srobotni and Jurjev vrh and probably more. The main guideline is to walk, run... connections somehow fall into place depending on the available time and desires for marked, unmarked paths, pathless terrain... Regarding the marked paths, they are excellently marked in the Konjiška gora area and once again recognition to the dedicated markacists for tireless and correct work. Since this subforum is intended for conditions, today they must have been also on Konjiška gora mežikanje excellent. Regards

I agree with you as history already writes there were always others who discovered and wrote about hills and mountains and not locals. Maybe because it doesn't seem so interesting to them just like to me for example Pohorje which I have every day in front of my nose. I go up but it doesn't excite so terribly as if I roam elsewhere in hills or mountains. It will be hard to connect them all, maybe skip some or not. Logistically demanding since Konjiška gora measures about 10 km air line in length. Long will be the way to the starting point about which I am still thinking. I have set the matter quite seriously, I still need to think about details, connections between summits, if the tour will be realized this year then I will see. Everything depends on the weather, time and readiness. True is that when you turn off the marked paths and start to know a certain hill better and better it attracts you even more to know it in details.

Konjiška gora has 15 distinct summits according to sources, 14 with names and one without. If we add three more distinct points - Skala, Trije križi and Grofov štant, there are 18 points in total. Of course a closed circular connection of all 18 somewhere is possible but some optimal circle mežikanje unfortunately there won't be or perhaps. More sensible in my humble personal opinion is to think about a traverse in the east - west direction... somewhere between/above the Golo rebro tunnel tube on the Maribor side above Žiče and Beli potok at Frankolovo or vice versa. All 18 points and perhaps some more could nicely be strung together and it would be quite enough in mileage and elevation. @pohodnik38 what got into you with vi-form, don't formalize... here we use ti-form. Nice route done. From what was seen near the summit - Čaž saddle fits better on the descent from Babič, which anyway isn't anything important. The viaduct mentioned in the blog and also photographed is not Pletovarje but Škedenj II. Pletovarje is the name of the tunnel and the settlement above the tunnel. Under the viaduct is located the motocross track Škedenj, and they really well placed it in the terrain. The center of the Škedenj settlement is a bit further towards Žička kartuzija. Once again, thanks for the eastern view on Konjiška gora and nice description. Regards

Today (20.03.2014.) a quick ascent to Skala. Friend Krešo was there for the first time on that short but sweet ferrata and was thrilled. Only he thinks that self-belaying should be mandatory here, I am not of that opinion. This ferrata is extremely safe and it is up to the individual whether they will belay or not.
Since I am out of shape, the ascent on brackets and rocks quite exhausted me, and since there was no time, the visit to Stolpnik was also cancelled. We agreed that we will do it sometime in the future, but with start in Stranice...
This was my first ascent as a father! I can't wait until my Katrina Vera and I go to the mountain together for the first time!

From the starting point Žička kartuzija higher into the world of Konjiška gora in one short circular combination. Combined several paths, solitary paths, probably due to lower temperature, somewhat late hour... Hunters only had shooting at the range lower down and it properly "banged" through the space. Paths dry and it was really pleasant. End of the path along the Soješki stream and along the Dramelj mountain path, so it wasn't only the world of Konjiška gora...

Interweaving of part of the Loško - Zbelovska mountain path and Dramelj path. Also a few meters of Slomškova pilgrimage path and even more of the newly traced Jakob path. Unpronounced 575 meters high summit...BABČEK as connecting link. Watershed between Dravinja river on one side and Voglajna on the other side with quite pronounced ridge mountain-biking activities. Start in native Poljčane. Intermediate conclusion at the foot of Konjiška Mountain at the charterhouse and Žičnica. Return back along short asphalt line. Paths mainly dry, also some muddy sections for real impression... Higher to Konjiška Mountain second time, today I was more interested in longer approach with Babček as connecting link. I rode this combination first time. A few kilometers, ascents negligible. Met of course no one active, there were some chats along the path...

To the world between...Boč and Konjiška Mountain. Babček, somewhere basic and highest point 575 meters. Start, Poljčane and of course mountain bike. This time concrete approach from Špitalič. Quiet and interesting place before Žička charterhouse. Above church that bears Mary's name. Ascent concrete right above construction site of new morgue chapel. Real ,,steep climb,, towards junction Podgranček. Better would be poles, bike was here effort at side or even above shoulders. From Podgranček even more concrete to junction Jankar. Forest in this part shelter. From junction advanced quickly and soon Babček. Enough records about it. Also municipality and administrative unit Šentjur in this part. Continuation over Grušce and traverse of hill. Above quarry and passage to more concrete world on Konjiška side, area Loč. Classic extension to junction Jesenek. From here onward classic along Loško-Zbelovska mountain path. Mainly gravel and unfortunately even more asphalt. Today first time to mountain-hunting hut somewhat above path. Object still under construction/renovation as seen. But already getting shape. Stamp box and book, for stamp I don't know. I don't stamp. From here easy ride. Today also through summit part of settlement Zbelovska gora and under passage/gate somewhere more concrete end in Podpeči along Dravinja. Still extension to Poljčane and that was it. Easy/simple. Section Špitalič - Jankar somewhat more IN. Paths partly wet, some mud and temperature biking pleasant...Yes nasmeh and really pleasant it was.
