Today on Košenjak, nice sunny, snow towards the top up to knees, also elsewhere enough for descent on skis (normal alpinke) to the mountain hut, which was closed in the morning, then on return open. To the mountain hut you can drive normally with the car with solid tires of course.

How much snow is left on Košenjak? How passable is the Kozjaški greben?

Thanks

Today up there. Had to find a tour not so exposed to the north wind. From Dravograd up over Goriški vrh and back the same. Path well traceable, they also put two new benches along the path. Not too cold, just the north wind was blowing quite hard, especially on the clearings and less covered parts of the path so that it was dripping nicely from the nose, and hands freezing. Still, a nice tour to air out and maintain fitness.

On Saturday we visited Košenjak. Hike started in Dravograd, past the hunting lodge and up over Goriški Vrh to the top of Košenjak. Descent towards the mountain hut and down to the village Ojstrica, where transport was waiting. The entire path is well marked.
Most of the path goes through forest. In recent days there was a lot of rain, so the sultriness and muddy paths made it harder. At the mountain hut, excellent barley soup on the menu.
They have an excellent artist in these parts who knows how to work with wood. You often come across his works along the path.

FROM LABOD, TO KOŠENJAK

Three thirds of the path dry and on some parts some obstacles from heavy snowfall (broken trees). Last part on trodden snow to the top. Path well marked and not too steep. There were quite a few hikers. LP.

Some pictures from yesterday's trip Bistriški jarek - Mlake - Pernice - bivak Piramida - Košenjak - sv. Urban - Kozji vrh - Pernice - Bistriški jarek.
The entire path is normally passable, but quite muddy in places due to timber extraction.

My modest contribution from yesterday. As you might have guessed, Tadej invites me every now and then on such an interesting hike. I gladly join him. The drive to Carinthia via Austria is long. Start was in Bistriški jarek. At the Muta border crossing we turned left past the abandoned mill to the village Mlake. This farm is at 500m altitude. Friendly locals greeted us. The path is well marked. PD Bricnik from Muta takes excellent care of these marked paths. Then we arrived in Pirnice. We walked quite a bit again to reach the Pyramid hunting bivouac - very nice here. Then our main goal of the day to Košenjak. We walked along the border line between Austria and Slovenia for some time. The path is well trodden here. From the top also to the church of St. Urban. On the way back also to Kozji vrh. In Pirnice village we turned left at the church along the marked path back to the start. It was noticeable that this path is not walked much.
Start in Bistriški jarek at the music house - my naming.1
Photo taken on the return - in the morning it was still too dark for a successful shot.2
In front of the house there is a pile of these wooden figurines - this one is very appropriate.3

The day has already brightened - we didn't need the help of lights. The path is marked.5

For New Year's Eve and the beginning of the new year on Košenjak. From Dravograd over Goriški vrh to the top of Košenjak and back the same way. On the path there are some newly fallen trees that can be easily bypassed. The path is completely dry except for some small snowy sections on the very last ascent. Nice views and sun with a light wind.

We went as drawn above, in a loop. We messed up the day a bit: we went when it was a holiday in HR (Tuesday), and forgot it's not in SLO, so we ate food from backpacks.. nasmeh
Very nicely maintained trails and paths, without piled branches from fallen trees on the paths (as often with us), mowed and/or trodden grass, without thorns and bushes etc ... like a lot of walking here (but we were alonenasmeh )..
Pity for the modest view from the top..
Pictures from this route are on this link..

From Labod we drove to the saddle, to the large parking lot. To Košenjak, marked 1 hour walk. The path was already quite well trodden, so we didn't need snowshoes. To burn some calories, we headed towards Urban. No one had walked the trail yet, snowshoes came in handy here. We always walked here in wet conditions, sometimes even at night. Depends on direction and hike length. (my longest single-push hiking trail so far KPP 67 h.). Also Zvoneta and I were caught by night after Pohorje, towards Košenjak and it accompanied us to Remšnik. Yesterday I told Romani that under such conditions, just to Maribor would take three days. At the car we realized we had walked quite a bit.
In summer we went towards the west1

From Ivančna Gorica and Ljubljana it's a long way to the mountain hut on Košenjak, from where we ascended through the forest to the beehives, high grasses, below the summit. They say the summit is home to capercaillie and wild rooster, after which the summit has another name Kokošnjak. Unfortunately we didn't have the luck to see our largest grouse. The path through the forest and grasses pleasant. We used the day also for ascent to Basališče, where besides the usual Knafl markings there are also inscriptions XIV (XIV. Division).
