This time again something for the soul, wonderful circular trail in the heart of KS Alps, start at Markova ravnina and head towards Krvavec, but not to it, but via Planina Koren to the top of Košutna, followed by Kompotela and finally Vrh Korena. Descent in the direction of arrival. Wonderful views, the tour is technically undemanding, excellent for building fitness. Wonderful views, recommended.

Well, also to Kompotela and along ridge over Ježa - from Korena to Zvoh, good track made, conditions themselves - today warm no wind - didn't require technical aids. Snow good 30 cm but sinks doesn't hold weight, so gaiters at least mandatory. Sadly no pics today, stayed in my Canon which was lost at parking before barrier under Kriška pl. if honest finder ... would be nice...

Has anyone visited Kompotela or Vrh Korena after late November snowfall? Conditions from Jezerca? Thanks

From Kriška pl. on the marked path shady parts are still icy, mostly dry, from Planina Koren onwards there is little snow but it walks fine. Given the conditions, I warmly recommend chain crampons and poles, no problems.

Thanks, how is it from Kriška planina on that steeper descent part? Dangerous without crampons?

The path was icy in places! We walked without crampons, you do as you know! It's right to have winter gear in your backpack ALWAYS when you go to the mountains in winter. Then you have the option, depending on the conditions and your readiness, to decide whether to use the gear or not. Best regards

Don't misunderstand, I didn't mean to teach you anything, just to point out how it is in winter with gear and conditions! People are different and what is an undemanding path for one can be demanding for another - depending on experience. Just that! Safe and pleasant path to the beautiful end.

It's ok, I fully agree with the conclusion. We are not alpinists, but we have quite a few demanding paths behind us. The point is the current conditions and that's what interested me for a specific spot on the path, so we know a bit what awaits us if the weather holds till the weekend. Safe path to you too

The path is normally passable without winter gear. Whatever snow is on the path doesn't hinder, but anyway always watch your feet. Checked today.

Path: Jezerce -> Pl. Koren -> ...I'd add that the path is indeed mostly bare, but whatever snow there is is fully frozen, in many places even solidly icy. Walking thus requires more caution.

From Planina Jezerca to Kriška planina, then we step into good 5 cm new dry snow to Planina Koren. Then along the lower path to Planina Košutna, to summit Košutna, Kompotela and Vrh Korena. Descent back to Planina Koren. Snow on path dry, partly blown to hard, but no crampons needed.

On Sunday from Planina Jezerca to Vrh Korena: path well trodden, in lower part on some short sections also slightly icy under snow. Little snow and windblown, towards top around 15 cm.

3 photos from yesterday's visit to Vrh Korena. Back towards Krvavec via planina Dolga Njiva, from pasture on northern slope crampons needed, elsewhere on path through southern snow ok without.
