Košutna, Kompotela, Vrh Korena

On Sunday, a wonderful circular tour of four female hikers and one male hiker from planina Jezerca at 1,410 m past planina Koren and pl. Košutna to Košutna peak. We continued to Mokrica and on to Kompotela. The path is newly nicely marked and groomed, kudos to PD Komenda. The views were great towards Nanos, Snežnik, Velika Planina, Kum and Menina Planina. Then a hop to 1,999 m, Vrh Korena. We had three return options and chose the most attractive ridge Ježa, where the descent via well-equipped protections must be noted. A bit steeper ascent, a few more short ups and downs, then to Zvoh... then descent to Florjana and tour end. Nice ramble through pastures and peaks of Krvavec, without the forecasted rain.

Comment on a small detail... On the whole described tour path, the probably most dangerous part is the initial section on Kriška Planina, bordered by barbed wire. Who are the sharp barbs for? Even ordinary wire stops cows too..... So for hikers who in the dark may notice the wire too late....and "not get away without injury"... Wire at child eye height! Has the 20th century taught us nothing...? In the Julian Alps area there are still too many remnants of rusted wire, but someone putting up new??? Also on the southern border against refugees we even have razor wire!?

Observer, how well you observe. How quickly we eat forbidden bread. After 2nd World War very popular saying here: Never again barbed wire. (Due to horrors camp inmates in concentration camps fenced with barbed wire suffered.) Today this barbed threat reappears.

Today I went from planina Jezerca to Košutna and Kompotela, no time for Vrh Korena. To planina Košutna, the path is without issues, dry, the rocky step before the pasture is excellently secured - new cable. Snow started a bit above the pasture, I followed tracks to Košutna summit. On to Kompotela I had to wade a bit to the path from planina Koren to Kompotela. The track is well trodden, still gaiters and poles with baskets are useful. No crampons needed.

taja3, nice little tour. And in places undoubtedly the best views of Grintovci. Regards.

Hello, maybe some fresh info from this end? How much snow on path from Kriška Planina via Jezerca to Košutna or Kompotela? Thanks.

Is there perhaps a caver among you who knows the pits in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps? The photo shows the entrance to a pit between Kompotela and Koren in KSA. By my lay assessment based on the sound of the stone that I threw into the pit, the pit depth is surely 20 m. Since the pit lies on terrain descending towards Kamniška Bistrica, the pit may have some continuation.

GregorD, biggest thanks for the link and in the register I found this pit, which is no. 8446-Koren 3 and 22m deep, so I estimated quite well.

This interests me too. If no one knows, I'll report on Saturday how it is.

Snow starts right at the end. Less than 10 minutes walking on the road is needed.
