Kriška gora/Tolsti vrh

Hey, does anyone have any info if there's still snow on Kriška & Tolsti - maybe someone from Gorenjska sees through the window. nasmeh

Saturday morning forecast has no precipitation for now so I'd go up.

From the webcams it doesn't look like I need to pack crampons and gaiters - extra 1kg. Subzero temperatures start only at 2500m so I guess if anything it's rain not snow up there.

Tolsti vrh is hidden in clouds, but no snow on it either, so if no new snow falls you don't need crampons and gaiters.
Safe steps.

Don't forget the ridge, where snow (and ice) lingers a bit longer on some sections. If there's none on Kriska and Tolsti Vrh themselves, it doesn't mean anything. Gaiters probably not needed, but I'd take crampons myself, weight isn't that much, hike neither.

Hey, thanks for the advice and Roman29 for the pic.

bongo, the difference is just right, so on such a 2-3h hike where there's a hut up top, I stuff the rest with 0.5l water in a pouch around the waist... and my back breathes nicely nasmeh

Afternoon to Tolsti vrh and Kriška gora, no snow anymore, light drizzle on the ridge but I had rain clothes.

Today despite worse forecast we went for our 5th goal in naTriglav.si program. Path was surprisingly good, expected lots of mud, especially from Gozd settlement towards "over Jeza", but water drained nicely. While walking the ridge to hut on Kriska Gora, we discovered something completely new nasmeh what it is, read in detailed description of today's hike here.

Let's look back a few days. Given the weather, situation probably hasn't changed much. Rain makes muddy path, wind dries it and with some luck sky might clear. More at: https://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/147161/

Yep, on Friday nothing different, just started in fog through Jeza and up the mud slope for views. Enjoyed the sun for a long time with nice company, later two came to surround wooden fence also with wire so sheep can't dirty the summit, now they managed to get inside the enclosure. Then down muddy and crap trail in fog towards Kriska Gora for nice chat and coffee. Then to the valley.

Bad weather for weekend, so today did a short one.
From Gozd through Jeza to Tolsti Vrh and along ridge to Kriska Gora. To Tolsti Vrh path without issues, on ridge quite icy.
Lots of sun, little fog, no wind.
In hut apple strudel and coffee, then back to Gozd.

From Gozd through Ježa to Tolsti vrh and along the ridge to Kriška gora. Accompanied by my faithful four-legger. When I parked at Gozd I thought I was a bit overbooted for such a path. After two hundred elevation meters the mud ended and I followed tracks in about 10-20 cm snow. Underestimating the grassy slopes didn't seem dangerous to me, it looks like snow lumps "avalanched". Snow was quite heavy / wet.

At the bench it opened up and we enjoyed the first views. Then through nice forest and on past Storzica towards the summit. On top there is quite some snow, the track is well trodden so no postholing.

One of the hut keepers on Kriška gora was postholing, who a few days ago first broke trail to the top. Thanks! We also stopped at the hut on Kriška gora, refueled with brother of roe deer, then descended the path with wire rope fence towards the forest. About halfway the mud starts so I was a bit sad when I dirtied my always snow-cleaned boots quite badly. Need to get back to snow soon. velik nasmeh

Today nice circular path to Tolsti vrh. From Gozd through Ježa to Tolsti vrh. From the top along the ridge to vrh Vrata and further to the hut on Kriška gora. After a short break then along the easier path to the starting point. Path without special features, except some mud on the path. Nice mountaineer's greeting.

From Gozd through Ježa to Tolsti vrh and along the ridge to Kriška gora. This time a bit faster and much earlier. No special frost anymore. The sunrise was phenomenal, morning coffee too. The hut on Kriška Gora now opens at 7am already (except on Mondays when it opens at 1pm).

Hi, I'm following the weather and cameras, but still need advice from those who have been up here these days. What's the condition? Is there any snow? I'd like to head out on this tour tomorrow. What do you think?

It's dry, yesterday it already cleared all snow at this altitude, at least here with us. Maybe there's some patch behind some rock, so go boldly on the path.

Today from Gozd to the open mountain hut and then along and below the ridge to Tolsti vrh.
In the morning still frozen track, on the way back it was already a bit mushy. For descent I use crampons, which come in very handy in a few places.
Weather though, couldn't be nicer.nasmeh
