On Women's Day we headed up here. From the Shelter in Gozd across the nearby meadow, following the visible path into the forest to the classic route. We met only a handful of people, but for the morning hour more than expected. The marked path is unremarkable, the upper part from the chains quite icy, so microspikes are necessary, not just recommended. Clear weather around noon, no wind, strong spring sun warmed us well at the hut. All visitors basked in the sunrays pleasantly despite a few degrees above zero. We planned only Kriška gora, but time allowed continuation so we took the chance. The path to the beech forest muddy in spots, later snowy. More on the ridge, much drifted. Views thrilling, far-reaching. Strong sun higher up not enough to melt fresh snow on spruces. Step slower and careful, ice under foliage. The steepest part harder, no steps. Plenty of time so slow progress. The day too beautiful to rush. Nearly an hour enjoying the summit, just ours. Descended the steep path to Ježa. From the junction to Mala Poljana, where we planned to go further, the path is quite icy. If you have big crampons, use them. Few snow and ice flanks left, otherwise passable. From the hiking path and forest road junction to Gozd village, the road torn by logging. Warning: quite muddy if you choose this. Along it blooming spring flowers in abundance.

Maybe someone knows - are crampons still needed for the last part of the trail to Kriška?

Last Friday the upper 150 meters were still pretty icy all along the path and quite tricky to descend. But it was possible without crampons, just slower and to the side. Today it's probably better, but there's definitely still some ice or snow on the path.

@tinky, the culinary offer wins with the pics. Last time, more than 30 years ago when I was here last, there wasn't anything like that, so I'll have to hurry and check the quality!

The strudels are good, but before the hut keeper change they were better!!!

This is now a fashion among hut keepers to make strudels from bought pulled dough or what? On Blegoš it's the same. What a shame, really! Good you posted the pics, tinky, so I know what NOT to order at Kriška gora .

One more about strudels, then enough so we don't go off topic. The old crossing at Ljubelj, I recommend.

Does anyone know if the hut at Velika Poljana is already open?

On weekends with nice weather it's generally open all year. This weekend too...They have one hike (KS Kokrica), just don't know if this or next weekend up there, so there might be a bit of a crowd...Joža at Mali Poljana has already started summer season so something will surely be available

Today on the path from Kriška gora to Tolsti vrh there was snow, lifted by strong wind, covering our tracks right away... Nice day in the mountains before clouding over!
