Yesterday on Kriška gora, after a good hour of walking arrived at the hut. Weather was sunny, sun started a bit above the parking lot. Up top real winter idyll. Many visitors. Continued to Tolsti vrh. Path trodden but only today, since 8.2. hike to Tolsti vrh. Four guys started breaking it, caught them halfway up. Path along ridge lots of drifts and sinking even to waist in scrub areas. Hardest penultimate ascent. Then two hikers from Gozd village came, so better to summit, track made. Gentlemen 2h20 from hut to top, me good 1.5h since initially trampled. Return to Gozd village, path trodden there too. Careful on grassy slopes, risk of slabs. On return fog thickened and rose.

Today with friend did short trip village Gozd-Tolsti vrh-Kriška gora...Direct path to Tolsti vrh previously trodden but quickly lost due to windblown snow and drifts so lots of breaking trail, sometimes to waist...otherwise lots of windpacked snow and drifts on ridge from Tolsti vrh to Kriška gora...careful..otherwise great sunny day...

On Sunday we went with friends to the hut on Kriška gora. We ascended the gentle path, where below the summit there's still snow and ice, so crampons are handy. We descended the steep path, no issues there, I recommend this path until the ice melts on the gentle one.

Early hour, golden hour (but still, when you start some are already coming down), ideal day for Tolsti vrh. Started direct from Gozd, little snow on whole path, except higher under summit and on ridge. Continued to Kriška planina, full of people there, snow almost gone. Nice warm sun burns well, especially if sunscreen stays home, so despite fairly cold morning you sweat very quickly. On this path met only two groups and think the slightly later one had pretty serious work with sinking up to waist in places.

First to the right side of the picture, then along the ridge to the left

there is very little snow on the southern slopes, the old snow is icy in the morning, so caution

Just below the summit, in places you break through the dwarf pines, but in the morning it was still sufficiently frozen

Storžič, in the gully following the southwest path I noticed two little dots

For glider pilots today was obviously a top day

Was anyone up there these days? Mainly interested if there's still snow on the ridge to the hut? Planning to go tomorrow.

On Kriška only slightly white. Towards T. vrh still sinks in.

From Gozd up some little snow right below summit, but ridge to Kriška still quite snowy. Basically snow packed (sticks to trodden path), but can still sink sometimes. In some hole even meter nasmeh

anyway slowly and carefully ok nasmeh

on Kriška almost no snow left, but path down to Gozd initially bit icy. Nice day and enjoy.

I wouldn't want to interfere too much in commenting current conditions, since I wasn't up there, but based on last year's experience I can say that the path from Kriška to Tolsti vrh at this time (especially midday sunny) is quite softened and due to grassy slope fairly dangerous for fall, slip, avalanche.
So suggest caution and especially early start with return to Kriška by 12.
Last year apparently one passage before T. vrh was tricky, where path went almost (or even) over a cornice..

Currently conditions better, passages clearly visible and I think no such danger (otherwise wouldn't type now O nasmeh

where grassy slopes almost no snow (more towards kriška, through pasture) - most snow right down from summit, there where cliffs on right.
Your last year experiences welcome of course, especially warning on possible hidden traps nasmeh

From the Gozd village directly to Tolsti vrh, past the hut on Kriška gora and back on a gentle path. The path is OK, snow remains only from the Tolsti summit on the right, where there are cliffs. nasmeh

Yesterday, 9.1.2010, it drew us from the Gozd village over Tolsti Vrh to Kriška gora and to the start of the path. The path to Tolsti vrh is quite icy, on the summit itself and on the ridge to Kriška there is still quite some snow. Also the path from Kriška to the Gozd valley is very icy. Without small crampons it is almost impossible. Fog accompanied us in the morning, in the afternoon the forecast came true and it cleared a bit. The coming weekend seems friendlier!

On Sunday from Gozd village up the steep path to Kriška gora and then to Tolsti vrh, return on the gentle path. Towards the summit ca. 10 cm new dry snow on hard base, path trodden, icy, also on descent to Gozd at least small crampons needed, snow to 1100 m.
Due to late afternoon hour I went only to pre-summit, next time. Still nice sunny trip. l.p.

Yesterday Janez, Anže and Miha, after deciding which gully to turn into since conditions weren't quite right for climbing, decided to go to Tolsti vrh and Kriška gora. From Gozd we climbed first to Tolsti vrh, then descended to Kriška gora and back to Gozd. There was fog, so we didn't enjoy the neighboring peaks, a bit windy, atmosphere was excellent though, as we made it ourselves nasmeh

With Zvoneto on Saturday we repeated the "mimohar" variant. :-) Conditions mixed, from ice (morning) and mud (on return) on south side, to great snow for walking and windpack on ridge...nothing lacking. Otherwise we had a good time and were home for lunch.

Today I quickly decided for Kriška; start a little before nine from in front of the church in Gozd, at Tolsti at ten. No sun. At the summit I meet a local with a dog, he descends the steep south, I continue along the ridge to the hut at Kriška, where the warden just lights the fire. As an expert she says that when it's nice sunny weather the chimney doesn't "draw", today despite that neither, obviously a weather change is coming, she says. I drink tea and then classic down to Gozd, arrive in just over 20 min.
The path is beautiful and dry all the way, only from Tolsti to Kriška two steep sections covered in snow, risk of slip. Praise to the warden for friendliness, skill and ingenuity.

Conditions on the path from Gozd to Tolsti vrh and along the ridge to Kriška gora already described by Parkeljc and yesterday 2.4.2011 they were very similar with the difference that yesterday it was sunny and in shelter quite hot. Only before the hut on Kriška gora slight breeze..., see it was really nice nasmeh
