1.) DO NOT park under the cargo cableway, before the ramp, because rangers constantly issue fines (due to no parking). Leave the car at the first or second gravel parking on the right, right after turning off the asphalt (approx. 100m before the first farm on the right). You have only 20 minutes more walking and no costs!

2.) The path is very nice, lower half also in shade. Definitely very suitable for children. Count on 3h-4h moderate walking, because there will be breaks anyway say close to 4h.

Of course, you should allow for an additional 20 minutes of walking through the valley.

Mid August we went on a two-day trip from Zadnjice to Kriški Podi and then Stenar and Križ. On recommendation of friendly staff at Dom Trenta we left the car there (by the way: highly recommend museum visit). To the starting point approx. half hour walk. It is possible to park right after the turnoff to Zadnjice, but there, for safety, I wouldn't leave the car overnight.

Thanks everyone for the answer about Kriški Podi.
We were up there yesterday and it's really an excellent path, highly recommend it. Beautiful nature along the path and the summit view makes up for all the effort. The kids were also excited, despite today's muscle ache.

Long desired visit to Kriški Podi finally realized on Sunday 22 August; parking ban warning heeded (one of the few, as it was full of cars before the barrier and that for two days without any warning stickers about fines); path really very nice, in lower part fairly flat, through forest, in last part zigzag steep and exposed to sun; weather nice for two days, just mists occasionally quickly covered the peaks; full of visitors, despite crowd friendliness and helpfulness of young hut staff all praiseworthy; overnight stays- "proper" sheets nasmeh

; due to mists we postponed the "assault" on Stenar to next morning and in pleasant company of young couple from Primorska it succeeded for me; summit accessible also for us "dizzy" ones and rewarded with divine feeling – with view for gods; at summit met couple of foreigners with 4-month-old baby in carrier (with parasol), about whose suitability I won't comment; on return to hut peaks started hiding in mists again;

Last week I was at Kriški Podi from Zadnjice. Nice day trip.

On Friday at Kriški podi: up there rain, then foggy, in the evening nice views. Hut staff friendly, nice evening gathering. Celebration of 60th anniversary on Saturday in fog.

Has anyone been to Stenar or Pihavec? I'm wondering if there are still snowfields there?

I was on Stenar on 9.7. and I can say there are snowfields, but they can be bypassed or crossed without problem. For Pihavec there was also one snowfield, which is more awkward. We didn't go up, but watched ascending hikers. For Pihavec just take ice axe, just in case. Safe trip.

On Križ, Stenar I was a week ago, 17.7. Shortly after the junction Križ-Stenar-Vrata on the way to Stenar we crossed a very short snow patch, 3-4 m, nothing special. After a week probably even less. No others. Don't know for Pihavec. Safe steps, good luck.

Please describe the route to Kriški Podi starting from Aljažev dom in Vratih. We would go via Luknja. Is this variant longer than via Sovatna?

Via Luknja is of course the longer variant and also harder, since you have to go over Bovški Gamsovec; otherwise use the "search" function, at least 8 topics on Kriški Podi are on the forum - conditions already open zavijanje z očmi

To Bovški Gamsovec you go by this path:

then the descent to Kriški Podi, which is quite demanding (pegs, fixed cables). The whole path from Vrata to Kriški Podi takes 5-6h.
