That's what Volk wrote years ago..he's right!!

Merciless steepness that rushes blood through the veins and makes you hear your heartbeat from the neck veins.
Pathless terrain, beautiful nature, peace...
Traversing gullies that steeply descend from Matkova kopa.
Drinking cold water that still flows in some gullies.
Sad view of the ruined hut of Matko's shepherd who grazed sheep here.
Steep scree and sweat drops from nose and brows...
Climbing in broken and crumbly wall and then traversing the ridge to the top.
Breakage at a difficult spot of a large rock that would have soon pulled my son into the depths.
Luck that it broke apart in between and it ended only with some bleeding scrapes.

Demanding, unmarked (oops..someone marked a bit before the summit and made some unique markings), some climbing too (II supposedly..) and crumbly in places (where least needed !! )
For the whole path with my son we took 8 hours (my walking not his!! )

Yeah, it was fun - one of the nicest paths (at least that part to krnička, then onwards more scree (not exactly climbers' dreams velik nasmeh))

PS: on that photo with the rock it's just posing, I didn't want to push it down

Well yeah, those often visited and marked paths (and via ferratas) are getting a bit annoying to me...this was ideal for me -> 8-hour hike in mountains and not one person (except on neighboring peaks)

Wonderful!! even in the forest it's so nicely laid out, that even the young guy liked it (who usually hates approaches).
Matkov kopa is close and farrrrr...but another challenge in this wonderful remote corner.

One fine day...
Splendor above the Belske Kočne valley. From Matkova Kope to Grintovca.1
The goal is Krnička gora. In the picture between Matkova Kopo and Mrzlo goro2
Between both beauties it hides3
... a picturesque cirque hides.4
Through crumbly terrain rising above its headwall, I climb to the top5
Krničke gore.6
The view from the summit first draws attention to Mrzla gora with Latvica.7
When turning my back to Mrzla gora, I gaze at the even harder-to-reach Matkova Kopo and distant Obirje,8
immediately behind it to the ridge separating Matkov kot from Logarska dolina,9
above it from Strelovca over Ut and Krofička to Ojstrica10
...and to Planjava and Brana.11

Today was a wonderful day for a great tour. Through autumn forest under ridges above the basin to Matkova krnica, ascent to saddle (frozen snow tongues that can be crossed or bypassed), descent to Austrian side and ascent to summit. Back descent to Matkov kot and before dark in valley. The sun was occasionally bothered by a cold north wind that halfway froze the camera too mrk pogled

Pika, what's that descent from the saddle above Matkova krnica to the Austrian side like? I've always continued along the ridge there and didn't think that one could descend from the saddle down. If the ridge is snowy, it's quite awkward.
But to Matkova krnica, did you go by the middle traverse path from Matka? Nice, but long traverse, right!

From the saddle you descend the scree gully (better on its right side along the rock) some 50m deep. Then you traverse it to the left and reach the path from the Austrian direction, now "marked" with red dots.
The traverse is really nice, and also finding the path that successfully hides under the leaves velik nasmeh.

Yesterday's goal wasn't initially Krnička gora, but seeing the cars waiting to pay at the entrance to Logarska dolina, my wife and I turned into the neighboring valley, Matkov kot.
We headed up towards Škaf, as shade still reigned only there. Above Škaf I spent some time exploring the passage to Matkova krnica. The sun caught us just below the jump to Latvica. There we met two hikers, the only ones that day. Below Latvica we turned right towards Krnička gora. Nice traverse, a bit annoying at first due to scree on rocks, ended on the ridge near the window. View through the window to the hiked path and onwards to the summit of Krnička gora, which is lonely next to the popular "cold" neighbor. Our visit was only the third in the last two months. Since we dedicated the day to the mysteries of Krnička gora, after the summit we went to the cave below the top. The entrance is in the shape of an upside-down horseshoe, and inside the cave is quite spacious. From the cave we go down and up the neighboring gully to the right to the saddle above Matkova krnica. From there along the lower path to Matkov kot and in between a "research walk" towards Škaf.
