A few days ago (14/8/17) I headed to Krnička gora from Belska Kočna past the cave shaped like glasses...definitely a hike worth repeating nasmeh

Krnička gora 22.8.2017
When we park in Matkov kot, it's +5C. The morning is nicely fresh for the steep ascent awaiting us. We cross numerous gullies and first break is in M. krnica at the source of ice-cold water. We eye the scree slope under the saddle waiting for us. At the saddle we stow poles and into the crumbly loaded wall. At the cross on Krnička we treat ourselves to a rest in the sun. The air temperature was such that the sun suited us already. We descend into the scattered gully on the Austrian side and cross past the cave. Then a bit further and into the approach gully back to the saddle. Now in krnica we treat ourselves to a proper snack spiced with Stanko's goodies. We decide to return via upper path under M. kopa to Matkovo sedlo and descend along the ridge to the car in M. kot. After 10 hours of walking we are at the start.
Now the real days for visiting the mountains will come. It will be fresh, fluid consumption on the trail will be less, we will seek the sun during breaks.

Today on the lower path through Matkova krnica and along the ridge to the top. Descent down the gully past the cave and then right up the second gully to the saddle.
Above Krnica there's some snow, but it doesn't hinder progress. Also some on the ridge, but you can avoid it. The biggest problem is the leaves, plenty of them making the already narrow path even narrower. jezen

Otherwise a bit of everything. From raindrops lower down to scree on top.

To avoid today's forecasted heat I decided to visit Krnička gora from Belska Kočna. The path, which didn't suffer much storm damage, runs of course on the north side and is shaded all the way to the krnica below Mrzla and Krnička gora. For the approach below the summit we used the second gully not the first "dotted" one, right to the top via the dots. nasmeh

Yesterday we too on Krnička gora from Belska Kočna. First we entered the first gully-dotted one, after a while we didn't like it anymore so down to the second gully, which was very OK compared to the first and reached the top of the gully-to Krničko saddle and had nice view towards Matkov kot. Nice ridge of KG and slabs to climb we noticed, left it for next time. Then down into second gully, cross it and into third gully and to top of KG. Weather wonderful. Views the best so we'd stay there... down carefully then past the cave and further down to the much desired spring. Wonderful mountain day it was.

In the morning hours when conditions were pleasant, I climbed near Škaf, from there along an interesting abandoned "path" to Matkova krnica and further along the ridge to Krnička gora. Descent to Latvica and past škaf (intentionally small capital) to the valley.
Hard to circle Krnička gora more nicely.

Dog's-tooth violets still blooming in Matkova krnica.

Under the jump the summer path variant is unpleasant.

From pitons along ledges zigzag down and middle to snow is easiest.

Under the chimney an ice axe is welcome.

The škaf from above still looks somewhat like one.

Many times I looked at the outlines of this path during descent on the "lower" from krnica. Photo 3 is totally familiar to me velik nasmeh

Yesterday members of Slovenian Mountaineering Club Skala did a nice circular tour to Krnička gora. Start in Matkov kot, continued to Matkova planina and further to saddle and along ridge to summit. Descent via crumbly gully past the cave and through second gully to saddle and down scree to Matkova planina. From Matkova planina along path under Matkova kopo to start. Path full of adrenaline, requires safe step, steep, exposed, gullies very crumbly. Views wonderful. Path unmarked. Nice mountaineer's greeting.

Skala, you started in Matkov Kot. Matkova krnica is much higher...there by the crumbling hut. mežikanje

Such a beautiful mountain, yet such an empty forum. velik nasmeh

Today my wish came true, I visited this gorgeous mountain. Started from Matkov kot. At the hut I headed into the gully which soon led me to the forest road and right after the first bend I spotted a cairn that nicely guided me to the beautiful trail to Matkova krnica. Gorgeous path full of various shades and views. The cirque is something else and the view to Krnička gora is priceless. Headed to the saddle and gritted through the scree. Past the slab to the ridge and to the top. Sinful mountain, no doubt! For descent I decided to find the traverse under Mrzla gora. Eyed the ridge but wasn't sure about passages. The start of the traverse and descent was fairly easy at first until I noticed I was holding too high. At about 2/3 of the traverse I got really jammed. When I realized it, the spot was so exposed that a turnaround wasn't possible, so I decided to push to the next ridgelet and there, if there was no sense to continue, turn and go back via that cross traverse to where I messed up. Attention 100%! No slip allowed! 20m drop below. On the ridgelet lady luck smiled, as a good but friable gully showed below that could safely take me to Latvica. Managed to get out of trouble. We all know mountains ain't a joke! Rested a bit at Latvica, then spotted a figure on the ridge edge descending the same passage under Mrzla gora that I came by. Decided to wait to see if he needed help with directions and, god forbid, not get lost like me. Had a good view, told him twice to go down and soon he was with me. A couple of words and off I go. Balls still solid! Now I at least know exactly where the passage goes! Nice day so I decided to go marked to the top of Mrzla gora then descend to Orešje. Water at the spring was welcome because it was burning like crazy. Luckily got a hitch at the climbers' hut; nice guys drove me back to the car. Thanks! All's well that ends well. Congratulations on the nice and looong tour.
Zoran, pity you didn't take the upper path right, which is nicer and easier difficulty-wise than the lower. True, it's more exposed. Don't lose much height either.

Me too today on this path, we met, but I also spun around Matkova Kopa and got rewarded with quite some scratches on body. velik nasmeh
