Krnička gora from Matkova Krnica

Yesterday 7.9. I headed to Krnička gora 2061m. The plan was Matkov kot past Škaf to Latvica (a bit lower) over a demanding passage on chamois trails towards Krnička gora. Nice morning in Matkov kot promised success of the tour. At Škaf there's still quite a lot of snow but Škaf is no more, just a remnant. Slowly towards Latvica where at the second higher barrier the cable is torn. Nice views until around 10am it started closing in - fog came. After a short stop I cross that passage which from afar looks like you can't go there but it goes, though very exposed. Through bushes upwards and I'm already at the saddle between Mrzla gora and the ridge. I descend a bit and climb to the ridge then realize that's still too much for me now, so I go lower and bypass it all lower over easier terrain which is very scree-covered and I'm on the grass. I head to the summit of Krnička gora, through bushes and I'm at the top. No views except for moments, especially the view of Mrzla gora from this side is spectacular... that wall. I descend the same way stopping for photos in between. The fog lifted around 14:00 and peaks around showed again. I met or rather saw only 2 hikers that day. GPS this time no as under the walls it "went crazy" - too "shady" well anyway it was nice, more in the video and on the blog.

Krnička gora was really "besieged" yesterday. I think there were only three of us up there including Tonček who was peeking out of the fog at the top. I started the path from Belska Kočna. Already at the start it was clear this isn't a very crowded place for tours, just a few cars and mostly ours. The path is quite varied, from winding through forest, then over rock jump where there's a cable, to the cairn (next to it a fallen spruce), marking the path to Krnička gora. The cairn was knocked down on the way back but I set it up again. The junction or cairn is just a few minutes further from the spring. Further the path leads through overgrown terrain - rocks are wet but the path is always visible, later red marks appear leading practically to the top of the mountain. When you reach the top of the scree there are three gullies from left to right, the first is "marked" but better take the second as it's easier and later you reach the "marks" anyway, following is no problem after as the path just goes up the gully.
The problem is EXCEPTIONAL crumbliness. Whatever doesn't stay in your hand your foot involuntarily triggers.
Can't imagine how a group of ten hikers or more would go up.
The way back also takes longer than ascent.
Otherwise weather cleared in the afternoon, so it was nice to lie on the grass at the end of the scree. The tour is demanding only because of crumbliness, otherwise quite fine.

@panoramik,
along the ridge from the saddle above Matkova krnica is a nicer approach, however the gully to the saddle is also crumbly, but short.
A group of ten hikers rarely meets the "cold" neighbor!

Krnička gora, remote as always, and wrapped in cold wind. So I quickly retreated from the top and descended to the sunny shelter of Matkova krnica. Otherwise, as everyone writes already, wonderful day.

After a long time again with son in the hills!
We chose Krnička gora via Matkova krnica and descent towards Latvica and Škaf.
Approach without issues, except snowfield in the cirque. Descent spiced with steep snowfields towards Latvica. Still plenty of snow downhill to Škaf, which of course eases the descent.

Brana, Turska gora, Latvica, Mrzla gora.

Already below the step, where the pitons are already out!

Drago, I hope in some two months I'll write too - after a long time again with son in mountains....
Here were moments when we were alone and had time for conversations. Home TV, computer and other duties, here alone in the middle of wonderful nature....

It happened on Monday somewhere beyond seven mountains and seven valleys. Three little frogs set out from Matkov kot to conquer little frog Krnička gora. The path led them on a wonderful fairy-tale trail under Matkova kopa to Matkova krnica, where the frogs due to great desire to conquer the summit ASAP continued up without pause. On the ridge above the notch they descended to a cave lower in the gully and checked no dragon possibly in it. The cave thrilled them with its size and luckily no dragon to block their further ascent. Here the frogs parted. One went straight via the gully from Belska Kočna, the other two climbed the narrow steep gully back to the ridge and adrenalinically continued along it to the summit. All happy that little frog allowed them on her summit congratulated each other. Excitement of two frogs summiting it first time couldn't be hidden. Path continued along ridge behind Mrzla gora. Here parted again. Two via lower path to Latvica, third to Latvica via upper very exposed path in east face of Mrzla gora. Below Latvica together again chatting last crossing continued down past Matkov Škaf concluding this fairy-tale adventure. Below looked back once more thanking mountain for being so generous.

Nice tour at the right time in the right place. In picture 50 I'm there too. Mrzla gora rarely has so many visitors at once.

Yesterday the Savinja Alps were sunnier than the Kamnik ones. It's quite a good feeling if you get lucky with the tour and the weather.

Above Kamniško sedlo mists swirled all day.

In the wet morning we head along the lower path to Matkova krnica. Then to the saddle and along the ridge to the top of Krnička gora.
We descend towards Latvica and along the marked path past Škaf to Kot.
The road to Kot is closed due to bridge renovation before the turn-off to Matka, which extended our tour a bit. If we were wet in the morning from the night rain, we were even wetter in the afternoon from the shower that hit us right at the demanding descent towards Latvica.

From Belska Kočna along the hunting path to the ridge between Mrzla gora and Mrzli vrh, from there marked to the top of Mrzla gora. I continue down the northern ridge and scree; follows a traverse and ridge to Krnička gora. I descend back to Belska Kočna along the hunting path. The original plan was a bit different, but as befits hunting/scree ones, there were adjustments on site, but I won't bore with details.
