Levstik's Hike from Litija to Čatež

Hello!

Since I'll be participating in this hike for the first time this year, I'm wondering which route is nicer or which one you recommend more?
Northern: Litija - Šmartno - Slatna - Jelša - Liberga - Preska - Grmade - Gobnik - Moravče - Čatež (22 km);
Southern: Litija - Šmartno - Slatna - Jelša - Liberga - Preska - Ježni vrh - Vinji vrh - Poljane - Gradišče pri Primskovem - Sevno - Gornji vrh - Dolnji vrh - Razbore - Čatež (21 km).

Both routes are nice, but the fact is that the northern route is the "original". Levstik's work, A Journey from Litija to Čatež, describes this so-called northern route. The southern route came much later, when dollar signs started appearing in the organizers' eyes.
Everyone decide for themselves. I'm going the northern one this year for the 19th time.

True that the path over Gobnik is original, but the first hikes were over Primskovo.

That's not true at all, I participated in all hikes from 1990-2000 and on all of them I have Moravče stamped in my logbook, so the first route. The second they smoothly made up when they saw more people and money every year. Michael66 before you object provide proof, and I'll then post a scan of the original logbook...

Hmmm... Well maybe, no maybe, actually probably, that already from the first hike there were routes via Moravče and via Primskovo. I know about Primskovo because until 2000 I lived in the place on the upper picture (Gradišče) and I know that hikers and also cavalry walked here all those years (part of them). That's why I don't agree with IGVA that this path came much later.

My first hike dates to 1988. Then I got a logbook where control points were named specifically. So Litija, Liberga, Moravče and Čatež. When I filled that logbook, in 2002 I got a similar one with all the aforementioned control points. So in fourteen years no change. On new logbooks it says start, 2nd stamp, 3rd stamp and finish. In some intermediate period I remember there was option to go through Primskovo, but the route still went through Moravče after. Now the southern route avoids Moravče. It also avoids Gobnik, where the core of Levstik's Journey from Litija to Čatež was born. Facts are clear. Writer Fran Levstik's path follows the northern route (read it). Another fact is that the hike organizers are from the southern route area and it's quite clear why later, when the hike reached 20000 hikers, this route was born too. I won't say this route isn't nice, but it's not original, because on it you can't experience what our poet experienced. I walk the southern route other weekends of the year, but on St. Martin's Saturday definitely the northern one.

why do the literati hike to Primskovo, Zagrič, Razbore, Zaplaz, Čatež and further to Gospodična a week earlier?

You know what, whether the northern or southern route is nicer and more original, I don't know...I only know that this is a trail for good-hearted people with smiling faces who cheerfully party at the finish! I hope we'll repeat the "exercise" from 2 years ago, when 2 girls, despite the cold, danced a real striptease!!!velik nasmehmežikanje
See you on Saturday!!!!

Well, geppo, if you party at the finish, that means (at least I think), you have a glass in one hand, a cigarette in the other. Then of course no room left for the camera mežikanje

First time I participated in the hike from Litija to Čatež. Although I don't like crowds, the atmosphere among the crowd of voluntary hikers was very pleasant, the landscape varied, even wide views despite the cloudiness. Organization super, especially I'd praise the morning transport option from the finish i.e. from Čatež to the start in Litija, so we had the car parked at the finish. nasmeh

Hello!

I also participated in this hike for the first time. Mostly for general education (to see where Levstik walked, although I don't believe he walked the path in 1 day, I myself needed a bit more than 4 hours at a fairly fast pace, and I didn't stop as much as he did).

Impressions: registration at the start was quick (no excessive crowd, let alone pushing), weather was fine (even too hot), landscape varied: up and down (I'm not used to such sudden changes, but different and therefore interesting, maybe a bit too much asphalt, but what can you do Levstik went there), not too much mud either, transport to the start very early and without unnecessary waiting also excellent... good train connections... People loud, some fitting the St. Martin's atmosphere (already slightly 'round'), surprised me the use (in speech) of so many southern swear words especially by older 'fine' ladies. I overtook a group of elementary school kids with teachers, but didn't manage to ask if they will/have walked the entire Levstik path. If they did, bravo.nasmeh
Well, my impressions are quite good. For walking once.

This year I participated in the hike for the first time. The atmosphere was pleasant, provided by the accordion along the way. The weather could have been clearer, the path quite muddy in some sections. Otherwise a lot of hikers who have been doing it for years. Best regards
