Levstik's Hike from Litija to Čatež

LP; yes, this year the weather wasn't the best and it deprived us of many otherwise nice views along the path; atmosphere unique as always on this hike; only the organization of bus transports somewhat failed, as we waited in line almost an hour for transport back to Litija, because of that delay then also the train; but the hike itself is really a very pleasant experience that surprises and captivates me every time.

Good organization, pleasant atmosphere, cheerful hikers, we also got some sunshine. What more could you wish for?
This year we took the southern route for a change. Maybe even more interesting than Levstik's northern one.
Both routes are complemented with neat signs with short notes from the first traveler's life, maps so we know where we are, and smileys overcoming kilometers together with hikers.
Registration and then off on the trail.....1
Hikers were also interesting to the furry and tailed ones2

On a magnificent, sunlit St. Martin's Saturday, 250 mountaineers or hikers (5 buses) from PD Mislinja and PD Slovenj Gradec participated in the 25th anniversary journey along the Levstik Trail. The weather served us excellently, initially more cloudy, but the sun soon broke through the clouds. The journey from Litija to Čatež on its 25th anniversary hosted a record 25,000 Levstik Trail enthusiasts. At the finish, honorary speaker Tone Partljič greeted us, emphasizing that we Slovenes are a nation of hikers!

And off we went again on the journey from Litija to Čatež. The weather favored us, nature's colors magnificent.
This year there were far fewer of us. We missed many. They stayed home dealing with what the flood didn't take from them.
The first smile was rather sour ..... we cheerful.1

It was nice, only the registration fee was a bit too high.

At the very start you need to do a bit of psychology, you have to assess who is the one who will give you that kid's stamp without demanding usurious 6 euros, well in Litija there was no luck, but there was more luck in Šmartnojezikmežikanje I'll give Jim the 6 euros already, we're not Rockefellersvelik nasmehnasmeh, and even if I were, out of principle I wouldn't give themjezik

But I have to praise this year's novelty, the extended path to Šentlovrenc, the path is very well marked and picturesque, it's worth walking that good hour down to the valley rather than waiting three hours up there for the bus to Litija. But I have to say, the path from Čatež to Šentlovrenc really drags on, it's not as close as the locals claim, namely everyone said it's 4-5 kilometers to Šentlovrenc when I asked how much further. But I arrived in Šentlovrenc exactly at 16:02, so I just missed the train from Novo mesto, then I thought, now I've missed the train too, what now, then I remembered there's another one at 16:32. I was on this path from Čatež or Razbor to Šentlovrenc completely alone the whole time, no hikers neither in front of me nor behind me, probably many hikers didn't know about this year's extended variant yet, that's how I explain it, it's true though that quite a few of them got drunk at the finish line itself, because we know that's a proper SLOVENIAN hikevelik nasmehnasmehzavijanje z očmijezik

Good night and best regards.

Indeed, the entry fee is not "cheap", but if we think about it, surely each of us spends at least €15.00 a month on things we surely couldn't say where they vanished to.

Preparing such a mass event has its cost sheet. Unfortunately, this year due to the water disaster, there were only 16,000 of us, last year 25,000.
The entry fee is used for organizing the journey, guaranteed free medical assistance, in emergency free transport of the hiker from any part of the trail, preparation of brochures, t-shirts, security service, traffic regulation, additional SŽ services, municipal services, free hot drink in unlimited quantity, maintenance of the path and markers, this year they added new ones and extended the trail, yeah that adds up to quite a bit.

Despite such a large number of participants, there has never been any accident and no one has been left on the trail. Even those individuals who faint from too fervent worship of Martin are not left to themselves. Locals accommodate them overnight and the next day "deliver" them back to Litija.

The event is open and anyone can set off on the journey without paying the entry fee, but everything is still available to them. And that's a big advantage that allows even those who can't afford this expense to still be part of the event. But whoever wants that stamp will pay for it or trick it out.

Personally, I like to pay the entry fee because the money stays at home and I feel they manage it well.
And what could be better than paying homage to nature, the people we meet on this path, tasting home-made goodies, socializing, taking time for ourselves and our loved ones. With such events we preserve our countryside. Why not let them earn something too?

@irina I agree with you.
@Hribovc88… I'm ashamed when I read this, I'm surprised you're not... looking for ways to avoid paying the 6 Eur entry fee.... Personally I haven't been on this hike yet, but I went to look at the Levstik Trail 2012 website and read the following: every participant gets for these 6 euros:

- New book of Levstik Trail (this year's red thread of the book is "cycling and cycling paths in the Levstik Trail area – over 50 pages)

- Logbook for commemorative stamps

- Trail map

- ...and as I gathered also a t-shirt by mail.

The trail has two routes – southern (21.5 km) and northern (22 km). That means preparing about 44 km of trail for the first time, checking them, cleaning if necessary, marking, providing stewards, complete organization, not to mention printing the book, map etc.... in short, I really don't understand how someone can expect nowadays that all this will be voluntary, for free, we should even pay everyone who comes and give them a free beer or something???

The only thing the organizers could think of would be perhaps some discount for families.... if say a five-member family comes on the hike (I believe there aren't many, or none), really 30 Eur is no longer cheap.... for individual hikers though... be glad, those of you for whom participating in such hikes suits, that someone is still willing to organize such things (I believe most are volunteers). Good luck!

Everything nice and right, I agree with both Irina and Kozorog. So there's no misunderstanding, I didn't demand a book, nor a card, nor a t-shirt, I already have the card anyway, it's about principle, namely I nicely told that one at the stall there that I just want the stamp, and she just smirked cynically, like what don't you understand. Anyway SLOVENIAN narrow-mindedness or limitation knows no boundaries. Pointless to worry and fight like Don Quixote with windmills, anyway I have the stamp or all 4 stamps and also the recognition for three times walked trailjezikmežikanje

I also think the entry fee is too expensive and that the organizers make good money. I'd just mention the Ljubljana wire hike where there's no entry fee at all, and they also take care of everything that Kozorg and Irina listed.

The entry fee this year was 4 EUR, the bus transport from Čatež to Litija was 6 EUR (ticket can be bought also upon boarding the bus), so all together 10 EUR. What you got for paying the entry fee was described by Kozorog. No one checked if you paid the entry fee or not, everyone decided themselves. There were still plenty of t-shirts at the start in Litija at half past eight in the morning.
There were about 8,000 hikers this year

The option is not to pay the entry fee and someone comes to pick you up in Čatež, or you walk back, in that case you pay nothing!?!? But that way in a few years there might be no more organized hike and everyone can walk alone - for free!

See you in 1 year.

Well yeah, that they want to take 6 euros for a stamp, they should be ashamed. I'll give the 6 euros when this card is completely full, that is in 15 years, until then they can wipe under their nosevelik nasmehjezik

Come on Hribovc now making a master's out of these 6 euros! And go hiking without collecting stamps like many others, it's not hard. What will that paper certificate do for you, will you frame it and hang it on the office wall?

Hribovc88,
you really got angry, but sometimes our principles are not productive. And look, I also have an old cardboard ticket, don't need a new one, I'll give the t-shirt to RK, it'll come in handy for someone, I'll take the literature to the Retirement Home, many read it gladly.

The adventure is past and I guess we've illuminated the entry fee from all angles and principles.
Let's rather check the weather forecast and plan where we can go this Saturday. Primorska and scarlet rowan is already one option.
Enjoy your free time, wherever you will be.

Hello hikers! I was also on this hike again this year. It was nice, unlike Primorska where it was cloudy all day, we had a nice sunny day.

Irina is asking where we're going this weekend. Suggestion: on Sunday hike on Vrtovec paths. Start and goal in village Ustje pri Ajdovščini. Very nice circular path, rowan along the path too and tasting this year's wine and more. Tea is free everywhere. At the end stalls offer home-made goodies. And if someone missed persimmon festival in Strunjan, can buy it here.

These days we have wonderful sunny weather in Primorska, bora dispersed the clouds. How Sunday will be, we'll see.

Oh, hike without entry feenasmeh
