do you need crampons for ascent on snow, or ok in hiking boots

Skiman, take them along...I never used them, it went fine with winter boots and poles...decide and judge for yourself when you're on the terrain Best, Jure

skiman, as Jure answered you, my buddy and I used crampons and an ice axe, because the snow is frozen until 10 o'clock.

I'm wondering about the path further to MG - how's the snow, is the section from Škaf to Latvica harder or easier than the summer path?

Janez, I think now it's something in between, as part of the path has no snow, while Latvica is under snow.

Today I also visited Škaf. Since I was earlier in the morning at another location - checking out another natural sight and the path wasn't that long, I said to myself if I'm already here so close I'll drive into Matkov Kot too. I started very late around 14:00. I met quite a few hikers. Ascent isn't that demanding at least I didn't think so, snow is soft so it went with just hiking boots and poles, on the way back I slid down quite a bit only higher up from the start I didn't dare descend Škaf is quite deep (big) this year I haven't seen such so it's worth seeing while it lasts. And it was another very nice day in Savinja Alps. Lp! Tone

Washerwomen would sadly observe it, for in it they wouldn't wash laundry. We are glad for the view of Škaf, we who like to find something for curious eyes. Every year different depths, all depends on how abundant the snowfalls are. This year the bottom looks quite deep, so walk around it more widely.

Škaf is this year s5 "proper"! I'm mainly interested in your second part of the hike to Veliki Vrh. Where to find the description if any, since there are many Veliki vrhov. Unmarked path or even pathless, where is the start. Can you help? Thanks and good luck.
