Everyone should wear what suits them. Personally it doesn't bother me at all, even if they have sneakers or go barefoot. I hike everywhere with low shoes and have no problems, or rather the opposite, they perform excellently.

Good luck and safe steps

Beautiful post and nice objective description of the path. Congratulations to the girls!

I agree that the description is all the more objective if given from the perspective of a parent, guide, etc.

Jbs, nice report, if they added Ceria Merlone to the completed route it would really be a "grande tura" at least you have a reason to return to Pecol with your daughters nasmeh
It saddens me how the topic got polluted with inappropriate comments about footwear jezen
Still a taboo topic today that has neither tail nor head, so I decided to chime in here and once and for all write my opinion on this debate. Please, whoever doesn't have enough experience and knowledge shouldn't write platitudes. I myself sprained my ankle 2x and that was precisely with high boots. The claim that high boots protect the ankle from sprains has long been outdated, obsolete and also made up. If that were the case, I would have sprained my ankle countless times with low hiking boots, but that was never the case. It must be said though that there is an obvious difference between sports shoes, so-called sneakers, and serious low hiking footwear. Every top mountaineer knows that a high boot is only suitable for early spring, winter and late autumn conditions when walking on snow etc... and only in special situations where the priority is protecting the ankle from various abrasions, injuries... everything else is completely unnecessary. I myself love scree and like to run down it. I regularly do this in low boots. Many would think I would injure my ankle, but I never did. A good example is also alpinism. When I joined the alpinists, one of the first things they pointed out was that high boots are not suitable for most approaches, except winter ascents, glaciers, mixes etc. And we know that alpinists don't exactly choose easy terrain. As an interesting fact... this year I participated in a glacier tour in Italy where we went to a hut at 3500m, I did the route with a 20kg backpack and low boots without any problem. If the claims about the ankle were true, alpinists would also use mountaineering boots instead of climbing shoes during climbing in the mountains, wouldn't they? But that's not the case. The old generation climbed on rock with mountaineering boots, true. All credit to them, but today's approach is without them, which also shows in the result at the end. In short: a low boot will sooner than "harm" strengthen the ankle area, harden it and thereby consequently reduce the possibility of injury. In addition it allows much greater freedom of movement, which is important in mountain terrain, as the foot constantly adapts to the surface beneath us. Whoever doesn't believe it should ask some good doctor, kinesiologist or physiotherapist, and they will give a professional opinion.
I hope I have clarified the matter, but at the end I would just like to say this: everyone should use what suits them best. Whoever has been used to high or mid-high boots for years and it works for them, should use that as long as their heart desires, but they have no right to judge others for whom it might not suit. Lp
