Maybe someone knows how far in advance it makes sense/is necessary to book overnight in a mountain hut (specifically Dom Planika)? And what about canceling a reservation in case of bad weather? Thanks.

Currently not accepting reservations... Otherwise in summer season book quite a bit earlier (I usually at least 14 days ahead), because it's always crowded... As for canceling the reservation no problem and costs nothing (if that's what you meant). Just call the hut that you won't come - so they know and can give the bed to someone else...

Someone is disappointed with mountain huts.... personally I don't go to huts much, I can't imagine eating spoiled lunch and then having a couple of hours' walk. At home, when farmhouse lunch is cooked, there have been no problems for many years; what Čokl describes, that the food is reheated X times, that's not even pig feed. At home, reheated a second time, it still goes, though the taste is different, but I have never eaten reheated lunch 4-5 times.... Shamelessly high prices, higher than PZS stipulates..... and especially when I read FB comments, some are excited about service abroad, with comparable prices to ours. http://anzecokl.com/2014/09/08/razocaranje-nad-slovenskimi-planinskimi-kocami/

Interesting, I ate one of the worst barley soups exactly in the most praised hut I avoid Kredarica with a wide berth, while at other huts I have had no bad experiences - neither with food nor with service/order, etc.

This is harsh, unfortunately true, already quite grotesquely humorous tale of Čokl !. The worst is that after the meal it twists you so much that the next day you walk weakly with diarrhea around after a sleepless night. I think any tin from emergency reserves and some dry bread is better than reheated and even made with old ingredients food. LG is quite right that even a hungry dog wouldn't eat such food .

Definitely much more worrying is the behavior of viharnik's brothers in mountain huts. Explain to cultured foreigners that these are southerners who can do whatever they want in Slovenia! And I can't imagine eating viharnik's authentic fart in a hill hut. After half hour salvo from back opening and ruined day. Barley soup is best reheated 4-5x. Depends how cooked and without "improvements" during reheating. In huts I miss good buckwheat porridge and sour cabbage really styled with cracklings topped! That's real food for hills!

Sirt, I don't know how you behave in mountains, but if only viharniks sat in mountain huts as you describe, the world would suddenly become bright and beautiful and full of divine vibrations. Regarding missing good buckwheat porridges and sour milk, I think you won't eat better than at Jasenje with Ingota. And once more I think in mountains almost nothing can punish you more than spoiled food and night turmoil .

Good I don't eat barley soup Jota though 3 years ago in Staničev dom excellent, then caretakers changed. At Planika it was good too, and at Dolič... At Mali planini they served me jota with beetroot. Since I don't eat beets, I ate only bread. At Lubnik they warned me in advance they have only jota with beetroot, so I didn't order. After hike a plate of beef soup with noodles, nothing better

After the hike one big portion of ice cream and if there's whipped cream on top, or not.

As for the crackling-covered žganci, they have them at Komna. I almost always order them there.

Yesterday the path took us from Podvežak pasture past the chapel on Molička planina to Kocbekov dom on Korošica. We 11 hikers were pleasantly surprised when the warden Mojca Perbil "greeted" us upon arrival with free tea with rum. We haven't experienced anything like that upon arriving at any hut. True, the hiking season is becoming deader due to bad weather and time, but her gesture extremely delighted and surprised us. Upon leaving, she said goodbye to us very friendly at the door and offered us "that short one". How little it takes for this to stay in our memory and we will gladly return here even in full season when there won't be time for such a welcome.

well, haven't eaten at Kredarica for a long time, it turned me off,, due to crowds, and hikers who think they are hikers, not the staff's fault. Kredarica just isn't a mountain hut anymore, unfortunately, for me it's just a cafe where I drink coffee. three times in a row I went over the Plemenice, and over Kugy's ledge, to Kredarica, and everything leaves me there. Instead of right, I prefer to turn left, to Rjavina, and from there laugh at the poor guys queuing to become Slovenians. They don't know that Cmir, Vrbanove Špice, and normal Rjavina, maybe even nicer. Or the hills on the other side. Really good food, and Koča na Gozdu, never disappointed

all strictly subjective, of course, but still (just) three food impressions: Zelenice above Ljubelj I avoid from afar after the last change of warden; completely opposite, happily to Erjavčeva koča on Vršič, especially in winter when the road is closed; the new tenant is trying also in Tamar; about Triglav huts no need for big words ... always again, lower up, and nice stories with hut keepers ... otherwise yeah... backpackmyownmaster ...
