Thank you kindly. I hope it will be the same this year too. It's a bit hard to plan if I don't know for sure. I'll need a backup plan.

That's exactly what I did: on the PZS website it says the hut is usually open in June, July, August, but at the same time it says it's currently closed. I call, write but no response. But I just went to check PD Jesenice. There it says it's open in July and August. Issue solved.

Easy to search through old news? Isn't it more logical to search for the hut? And on the evening of 3.7. it still says it's closed! I had to change the hike plan.

Also at Preval it was full, really full of people, from all sides they(we) were coming, as if the other huts around were already closed.

Closing a hut doesn't just mean turning the key in the door and heading to the valley. The hut keeper has quite a bit more work and has to prepare the building for the winter period, which surely can't be done in one day. This especially holds for high-mountain huts.

That's right, but generally I notice that abroad they're much more flexible about it. E.g. in Italy huts are usually open as long as the weather holds. With us a date is set, which everyone then sticks to like a drunk to a fence.

The opening periods of huts are determined by the mountaineering associations that own the buildings. Dates are published in the media already before the start of the season and changing dates can lead to unpleasant situations.

Huts are needed from 10 to 6 month, the other months it's not hard to sit outside in the sun, or even sleep in a sleeping bag. Otiv, if it's so hard to close the hut let it stay open longer and it would be very useful for those who regularly go to the mountains. Of course for the freeloaders, such a way doesn't pay off. But they could put some aside from the "summer crowds" for "black" such days. Of course in high mountains there's no such rush, after opening, or whatever. Mid-mountains though could have huts open and the mountaineering association add something, municipality something, at least for those without excessive visits. It would be enough for survival. For the average Slovene, prices are quite inflated and inaccessible for families. They make good money on bottles. Regards.

otiv 1.10.2018 The opening periods of huts are determined by the mountaineering associations that own the buildings. Dates are published in the media already before the start of the season and changing dates can lead to unpleasant situations. Well, that's exactly what (in my, possibly biased, experiences) they manage in many places, say in Italy, but not with us. Corsica can be found open even in October if nice weather persists. They just extend the season. With us every high-mountain hut closes on 15 September, even if (and that's not so rare) the best days for mountains come later. Oh, and I'm not quite clear what unpleasant situation would be caused by thinking before the tour that beer would only be in the valley, but on the tour unexpectedly finding out you can have it already in the hut ...

Whoever walks the huts abroad even now, in autumn time, easily recognizes those in private ownership (hoteliers, etc.). Everything is clear to them ... Something similar like say the hut at Ljubelj, practically on the border (at just under 1,400 m). Austrian owner, Slovenian keeper, result - neat, clean and warm mountain hut, open all year round ...
