I am 55 years old and I would very much like to get employed in one of the huts in Slovenia during the active season. I am willing to do any kind of work. I am very hardworking and diligent at work. Despite my age, I am still in good psychophysical condition, so I would like to do something useful during the year, but I don't know who to turn to. With respect and thanks for the explanations! I am from the area around Slovenj Gradec, but it doesn't matter to me at all where I would work, because I am not tied to anyone.

I myself worked in a mountain hut many years ago ... then I went to ask for work at the headquarters of the Mountaineering Association of Slovenia in Ljubljana and they found me a job in the hut at the Seven Lakes. I suggest calling the phone number published on the PZS website: http://www.pzs.si/o_nas/izkaznica.
php Good luck!

And what about days off if you work in a mountain hut. Namely high-altitude huts are open 3 months. Do you work all 3 months every day all day or how? I myself have thought about doing a course for mountain hut warden.zavijanje z očmi

My experiences 20 years ago in a crowded hut in the Julian Alps: in June there was still no rush and we had some free time; July and August worked 16 hours or more daily, in September it calmed down a bit again. From my experience with this job you can't count on hiking more or doing anything else.jezik

I worked four seasons at the Hut by Krn Lakes, still during studies, namely two months each in July and August. Since these are the main two months for hill climbing weather-wise, the crowd and work pace were matching. From morning to evening, so I could see surrounding hills only through the window. But once we went on a trip at night and returned by breakfast and started work. But we had drive.
For this job there was an ad in the newspaper from PD Nova Gorica and I applied, then they called me themselves every year.
I suggest you call directly the associations that manage huts.
Best regards

Student work interests me too. What was the pay for the work you did. Namely 2 months full days is quite strenuous.

Work in a mountain hut is interesting if you like people and mountains. You must know the area to give advice to hikers coming to the hut and warn them of objective dangers.
If you want a job as cook then it's important to cook well and fast.

I was a girl for everything. From dishwashing to room cleaning, bar work, toilet cleaning and more and more. This is really work for mountain lovers and not for some huge profit. If I remember right, because it's 10 years ago, I got then approx 100.000 SIT for one month, plus some tips. Food and stay free. In short, hard but fun for me.

I agree with the guest before me: also my work in mountain hut went that way, the pay, which I don't remember concretely, but definitely was not appropriate to the hours worked every day, without days off, from morning to late evening. However, I was almost 4 months cut off from civilization and consumerism, had no costs, so the 4-month pay remained untouched. But you must have special joy for such a way of working in "primitive" working conditions and the work definitely is not for the pampered or those craving fabulous earnings. The nicest memories for me are the pleasant meetings with mountain visitors, the bad ones you forget anyway.

I agree with the lady in the last comment: without real joy for this work, better not. It bothers me a little when all ask only for earnings. I know money rules the world, yet I always miss caretakers like Francelj under Špičko, mama Angela at Veliko polje and all others from over 25 years ago. Who goes only for earnings is unhappy: himself and hut visitors, because they often encounter bored and dissatisfied caretaker or hut worker. Smile, kind word and advice if needed costs nothing, does much: that can "move mountains". Best example young wardens in Koča na Prehodavcih: incredible and all praise to them. To all who will decide for work in mountain huts, especially high mountains, all luck and lots of patience for such work. You know: where there's a will there's a way. Good luck!

To Mrs. Marta, who asked about work in the mountain hut, I inform you that a job posting for work in huts managed by PD Radovljica is published on the PZS website. Take a look if you're interested.
Courage counts.

Three seasons ago I worked in one of the mountain huts in the mid-mountains. Because the work pace was too intense I quit after just 4 days. Don't know how it is elsewhere for beginners but I only washed dishes.jezen

No one got blisters from dishwashing yet. Washing dishes is also or especially important work in huts. I think work in mountain huts ain't for dreamers and "romantics".nasmeh

You chose to work in a mountain hut yourself. Did you think they'd pamper you there. Every job ya gotta accept and do. Then you'll appreciate folks working in mountain huts. Best Francmrk pogled

Hello!
I'm a student finishing my studies. I like going to the mountains, I'm a mountain guide and also work with kids (summer camps, leading tours). Thinking of spending this summer at one of the mountain huts (working of course). Agree it's tough work but also interesting and probably unforgettable. If anyone knows where they need help please let me know. Summer months of course.
Best, Silva

To me mountain huts seem totally off. Almost no difference anymore between huts and inns in the valleys!!!

velik nasmeh Well that's rather praise for mountain huts. What should that "difference" be in your opinion?

We've strayed a bit but I'd still chip in!

Difference should be that in huts (esp high alpine) profit maximizing shouldn't be top priority. That very desire forces expanding offer needing more transport and energy use (at least), consequently 'producing' more 'trash' and ultimately (bit blasphemous zadrega) attracts crowds of folks who wouldn't rush there otherwise nor belong there best.

Flip it: difference should be hut offers just sleeping, basic meal and water (last one real blasphemy zadrega mežikanje), staff friendliness and good info on sights and trail conditions nearby.

BTW (really BTW), most transport for narrowed offer could be old style with horses... And bring back some lost mountain romance.

Could scatter more that way but won't, tho it is what it is and know from now no one here takes me serious... zavijanje z očmi Anyway those utopian (who'd call archaic) ideas dear to my heart! Maybe dear to someone else too? nasmeh

Best

P.S. So not too naive: know I'm writing of other times gone and hard to bring back. Unless...
