In my opinion mountain stations should offer only the most necessary, not organize some weird parties like chestnut picnics and the like! And keepers should also be experts on conditions and local terrain, like the keepers at Komna and Triglav Lakes!
And also, as those before me already wrote, MORE control, because if no action is taken, huts will soon become night clubs or pubs!jezen

Huts are becoming what the market wants. If visitors want beer they get it, if there's no beer they just don't go to the hut. So, if there are no visitors who will pay the keepers? Mountaineering societies? No, they are already all in the red

I completely agree with the article before mine. It is really terrible in the huts, huts are really becoming night clubs in which both guests (especially younger ones) and keepers participate, some of whom can hardly wait for such a guest to appear so they can party all night and gorge until the early morning hours, thus disturbing other hikers and also negatively affecting other staff. It is really hopeless, PD should act against alcoholism and not for it, because it is a pressing problem everywhere! Drinking alcohol during working hours I would strictly prohibit. The working hours of keepers and staff in huts and lodges is 24 hours; they are responsible for everything. Therefore strict abstinence of the staff. Alojz

Alojz, finally tell us which hut offended you so terribly, because it's really not fair to lump everything together!zmeden

Whoever "GORGES" until early morning hours should stay in the valley where there are suitable bars for that and leave us mountain peace lovers alone! And so no one thinks I'm some pensioner annoyed by youth, I'm 28 years old!jezen

I will probably do that too and say it!!! Everyone thinks everything is fine!!! I'll wait a bit more, see how they decide who to put as caretaker this year; then I intend to say it!!! Best regards Alojz

Alojz, I mostly have good experiences in mountain huts, exceptions confirm the rule of course. Which exceptions do you mean? It's useful to write concretely so we know to avoid in future, and maybe the "drunkards" themselves take note if they hear of public criticism.zavijanje z očmi

Drunkards will definitely be gripped by nothing else but booze. Maybe "Rugelj" would be good as caretaker, at least for a change to laugh a bit - but true that house would be deep in the red. If some have been spitting on hut caretakers so long at least tell the hut's name so sooner or later another visitor gives opinion. Maybe some became too sensitive and homophobic ...mežikanje

I read and wonder if I should add something too. I've written some opinions already, but on other pages or after tours. Bad experiences from Korošica at renovated home opening where some were already drunk and rude, from Kokrško sedlo - re cleanliness or lack of hygiene ... and more. But I think in mountains it's different, yet one wants peace and friendly caretakers who chat gladly, give advice, not sullen looks and barely words. Last year hiked with husband in Kamnik-Savinja Alps. All tours even 9h ones in one day, up at 3am to start early. We didn't overnight anywhere. This year plan Julians and Triglav 3-4 days. Need to sleep somewhere. Please advise where conditions ok for food/cleanliness to include in tour plan.
Thanks! Safe in mountains.

Alojz, strict staff abst - 100% obvious!!!
But happenings in huts seem simple reflection of our general culture...
We all know drink sales most profitable hut business part. To mountains go all - nature/peace lovers to "sh*itters". That latter "take criticism" first time I hear. But I have 40 to 20 evidence on them. :
Else look over Karavanke or Dolomites and notice different vibe right away.

all you who keep complaining about something all the time stop going to the mountains then. no one will nag you, drunken hut keepers won't get on your nerves. anyway i think that the one who wants the huts to dislike him they will even if everything was nice and proper. i had only one bad experience with huts and that was at kališče a few years ago. never happened to me that keepers party with guests, so i think some exaggerate a lot. oh and i advise you to stop arguing here lady marta just wants to know where she could work as a keeper. if you want to discuss what's not good in huts write a new topic oa argue there
this is my opinion i advise the lady going towards triglav to sleep one night at kredarica when crowded but better at stanička(valentin stanič hut)
that's all i have to say
cheers

Jurs, haven't you figured out yet that this forum is total crap, everyone writes some nonsense and brags and at the same time suggests impossible paths to other inexperienced hikers!!!!

As a longtime mountaineer, I've also been a keeper, I read your miserable writings and "expert advice", I can't help it but won't visit this forum anymore. Horrible with rare exceptions you are know-it-alls and when many haven't achieved anything in life, they bash this forum here. Typically Slovenian, we used to say paper takes everything. At least introduce yourselves: who, where and when! And look at neighbors in Austria and Italy, you'll see what culture in mountains is etc. Ciao Miro!

About huts on paths to Triglav there was a question - those in valleys or directly above I'll skip ... So three larger or at least more visited (Kredarica, Dolič, 7J), four smaller (Stanič's, Vodnik's, Planika, Prehodavci). First three more hotel type and offer greater luxury, remaining four more homely - more 'old spirit'. Myself, if I must, prefer sleep in Stanič's (if from that side) and Prehodavci (if from there), although maybe a bit less comfortable. Also: Prehodavci boast beautiful sunsets, Stanič's with proverbial hominess (depends on team), Vodnik's (say) with plenty of running water, Planika offers two summit approaches ... Of course I put these characteristics more for joke although true. Otherwise I avoid Triglav (think it doesn't miss me mežikanje), but that's another story ...

And something to consider amid above bilious debate: almost unbelievable (yet understandable) how different 'faces' same keeper team can show if hut visited in high season or off. Here behavior almost generalizable to all huts: off season mostly really friendly, certainly friendlier than in season. If don't believe try it! nasmeh

I gladly read Rakar's advice on huts and plan to follow it. I know Triglav is almost always crowded and I too hardly tolerate crowds as I go to mountains on weekends after tiring work week..., I like to find peace and pleasures in all that. I know Julians are quite besieged but since haven't been to Triglav yet I want to visit it this year and since pretty far from Ptuj I'd like to spend some days in Julians to discover that end of beautiful Slovenia. Hoping for best!
As for keepers good are only those who do job with heart and love not those who think somehow survive vacation and earn extra.
Thanks for advice and good luck in mountains!
