New Year's Eve in the mountains

Print

Yes, New Year's Eve in the mountains is nice. Just not in a packed hut where all is smoked and drunk. In some bivouac, e.g. And climb the nearby peak a little before midnight. And enjoy.
Regarding Komna, from firsthand experience: Santa won't be up there.
"Reindeers" definitely!zmeden

Turbo, it seems a bit inappropriate to throw everything into the same basket and say that all is smoked and drunk.
If people cheer up a little at the end of the year, nothing is wrong with that, especially if they don't drive a car afterwards.
Bivouacs can be interesting too, but much more complicated overall.
I'm sure the forum has people with positive experiences.
Each person decides for themselves how and what. If this kind of New Year's Eve doesn't suit you, turbo, you won't join. As for Santa, I'm sure his greatest gift is to climb into a snowy fairytale, spend a pleasant night, dance a bit, and return to the valley on the snowy landscape.

I didn't throw everything into the same basket. I've spent quite a few New Year's Eves in the mountains and alcohol flowed in streams everywhere. That's why I no longer attend such celebrations. As for bivouacs, there's nothing complicated, just a bivouac with tolerable crowding is always harder to find. Stove and sleeping bag, something to eat, and that's it. No cans, rockets, bangers... You're right, ana13, everyone decides for themselves. And since I don't like crowds neither in the shop nor on the road... in general, I don't feel like "crowding", I avoid such parties from afar.

To those who don't like this kind of New Year's Eve in the mountains, I advise to simply ignore the topic, let those who are interested speak up.
With your wise-cracking you're actually discouraging like-minded people from participating. One would think that people going to the mountains are tolerant and cheerful folks - but from this writing here I'd rather say it's more about intolerant grumblers. Get your heads together, only then will you contribute to people happily visiting this forum.
Just courageously come forward with suggestions where for New Year's Eve in the mountains.

You have plunged into the topic in such a way that you couldn't have done it better. mežikanje
I go to the mountains patiently and cheerfully... and more, if I feel like a tavern, I'd rather stay in the valley.
Anyway, every autumn the same: where for New Year's Eve to the mountains. As if this year in the mountains is anything different than years ago and as it will be in the future. It's exactly known which huts are open, also known about bivouacs for the less demanding. And those who really pull up to the mountains for New Year's Eve also know where to rent some private hut. All this has been on forums for years, just need to search.
Those of us who are not in the mountains only in summer, and even then only on Triglav, but go to the mountains weekdays and holidays, summer and winter, we already know that. Or don't we?

I agree with turbo, this topic is more than chewed over and someone always brings it up around the same time. Then a bunch of words, finally snow falls and all high-flying goals stay in the valley.

oh, all know-it-alls who desperately try to make the forum no longer serve its purpose - unfortunately. You could still get to Komna, even if it dumps 10m over the holidays and you can stay a day longer in the hut.
if you don't have answers that the topic suggests, why not skip it?
zlodej - about chewed topics better not. you're experienced mountaineer, but if we look your mountain range is narrowly focused on Bovec area and a bit over the border, and Triglav you look there then here. about these tours - same ones you write and repeat for years. it would be nice if you'd sometimes write about some new tour.
I am new here and believe me disappointed.....because I thoroughly checked the forum and topics, I realized that many who used to participate simply withdrew and I'm not surprised at all why.
if I were administrator I'd simply delete topics that don't touch the title.otherwise to those who constantly advertise and criticize I advise to open a forum titled praises and criticisms.....

ana13 your New Year's Eve probably interests no one and so think about it yourself and you don't need to hang it on the big bell. Where, when and how much someone goes is an individual's matter and you're not the one to judge about it, especially since there hasn't been any useful description from you yet. You're not either and it's good that you're not the one who would manage this website, but you can make your own, where you'll set your rules about what anyone can post and what they should describe to satisfy you. Please, list what interests you to be described, because obviously you need it, you're probably completely without ideas if you don't even know how you would do New Year's Eve.

Dear ana13, this time with your reply to Igor you missed a bit. Obviously you don't know yet that the western Julian Alps are the wildest, most beautiful and also very, very demanding. And Zlodej's descriptions are very well written, so you can excellently "follow" them and climb some peak that seemed unreachable before. Shame he doesn't compile his mountain visits into a guidebook form. Therefore the reproach that his range is narrow is mildly put impudent. Just as Savinja Alps are far for people beyond Vršič, so are the mountains around Bovec far for us on this side. But it's sad that we argue about New Year's Eve. That's an individual's matter and let everyone experience it as they wish. Let's be patient and have a nice time in the mountains or in the valleys. There's enough space for all. Good luck!

Oh, ana13, welcome to the forum. But you made a mistake - why did you speak up if you're disappointed with the forum. That's your problem, and many of us who post here are not interested in it at all. It would be simpler if you skipped it. That's what you advise yourself, to skip what's not interesting. But obviously something small interests you after all - if nothing else, to comment others.
Looks like you've already walked all the paths that Igor described, and there aren't few, since you say he repeats.
Otherwise, given that you're "new here up", one would expect you to describe something new.

MIR, what is so very, very demanding in the W. Julians compared to ascents to Prisojnik via Hanzova, Kopiščarjeva, to Jalovec from Kotovo, to Ojstrica via Kopinškova, to Kočna via Kremžarjeva, and even in Karavanks there are similar routes e.g. Stol via north face. Numerous pathless areas in Eastern Julians I don't mention. To be more concrete, ascent to Montaž or Viš didn't seem more demanding to me than Hanzova to Prisojnik. Hanzovo to Mojstrovka I didn't even mention. As for Zlodejevi's descriptions, I often miss a short info how to get to the starting point, especially for approaches to less known valleys and ascents to less known peaks.

Ana13 and iskalec let me also write a few words... Ana13 if you want to go somewhere just go no problem and enjoy since you probably don't have friends and relatives with whom you want to spend the longest night... inquire in some PD and I believe they will advise you right! iskalec, buy yourself some guidebook and map so you won't underestimate others' achievements on this forum!!! If as you say you've walked numerous pathless areas, then it won't be a problem for you to find starting points for ascents that Igor describes???...as for other routes you mention...they are nice, but nothing else than the most known and maximally secured paths with us that are massively visited...Igor's descriptions are most useful for those seeking more solitary and less visited paths...

Well, ana13, the topic is in the forum section "general talks - debates that don't belong elsewhere" so it's completely realistic to expect that everyone can join the debate and write their opinion on the topic. Positive or negative.
But if you want to find company for New Year's Eve, you can write that in the "together in mountains" section and just say that you want to find someone or a group to join for New Year's Eve and add your expectations about it.
Regarding Igor's trips that are supposed to be all the same, there's nothing wrong with that. They are in the "current conditions" section and they change and many people (I'm sure) find a lot useful in them.
Everyone knows for themselves why they visit this website which we ultimately create together and we can certainly skip contributions that don't "fit" us with one click.

Kaveljc, I don't understand what buying guidebooks has to do with underestimating others' achievements? In my contribution not a single word mentioned any specific underestimation of someone else's achievements. As for guidebooks and maps I have a collection of all guidebooks on our mountains, maps of our and foreign mountains. Book Das grosse ADAC Alpenbuch, Kletersteig Atlas - Alpen and many other books on mountaineering, even fiction. Guidebooks on Bosnian and Montenegrin mountains (the latter I had the opportunity to traverse lengthwise and crosswise in a few years). Wasn't your advice therefore a bit underestimating? I don't understand people who immediately attack someone else's opinion even though they have no information about the person expressing the opinion. No hard feelings.

As Vahta wrote in one of the topics it would be good to stick to the topic. But the forum is increasingly leaning towards self-praise and settling scores with those who think differently. Igor's route descriptions and his knowledge of the mountains are really great, but that doesn't give him the right to behave condescendingly towards others on this forum (this is evident from some of his posts where he doesn't answer the question but gives some unnecessary comment). Also Turbot's comments in this topic are not needed (otherwise he has good and noteworthy remarks). If someone likes to celebrate in a hut let him do it and no need to immediately belittle him and label him a drunkard...
And to stick to the topic so I don't contradict the above myself. Almost all huts that are open in winter also on weekends prepare New Year's Eve celebrations. The question is if they don't already have reservations. You can go up alone too since if you're not sulky you'll quickly find company. So phone in hand and inquire in specific huts. As already described: Komna, Koča pod Bogatinom, Dobrča, Kofce, Kriška gora,...
And don't misunderstand me. I also gladly read every good description and listen to every constructive comment.

Can someone tell what does the number of trips you've entered have to do with participating in the forum? That person is right who says that here you are all know-it-alls and the site is just for self-affirmation. Anyway regarding New Year's Eve, to hell with all abstainers, whether in mountains or valley, I'll cheerfully toast and not with raspberry spirit.

And one off-topic!
As I already wrote once but I don't remember under which topic anymore ...
'yeah our youth, it needs to be re-educated', but for some it's long overdue, no offense, where are the values worth respecting in life, where are some ideals, dear our youth ... tolerance, respect for different ones, in your comments I rarely see it.
