Planina Blato-toll

ahh blabla capraibex ...
Parking fee at Blato has been charged for 25 years already. If you haven't found an alternative by now, don't say "But we'll gladly take money elsewhere, where they welcome us with open arms and know how to treat guests"

I was at Planina Blato 3 times last year, so what, I paid, no other choice. About such types as @capraibex who says: "But we'll gladly take money elsewhere, where they welcome us with open arms and know how to treat guests", anyway if you're too stingy to pay for parking, overnight stay and similar things that others pay for you, then stay holed up in your valley, where supposedly there are only good people, and the rest are just ballast from civilization for you.

For 2-3 per year probably no one worries. It's different if you pay every week or even every day for public parking. The capital is already EasyPark zoned: Ljubljana

Where is this Planina Blato anyway? I've never planned a trip around it. There are too many nice paths outside Slo Julians. And those under 2000m are super, of course. Just there you're usually all alone velik nasmeh Little joke for 1.4. Enjoy the mountains! lp

Tomorrow they should abolish all parking fees outside city centers. And remove all parking meters.

Why is the barrier to Planina Blato closed? Because the parking lot and most of the road are still under snow and you can't park. If you leave it by the road, then the TNP supervisor writes you a 500 eu fine.

Korl, I think you're a bit mistaken. I drove (alone) to Planina Blato around 7:30 from Stara Fužina in 2002, or maybe a year later. No one was collecting parking fees yet then. Almost one kilometer before the Vogar junction, cars were already parked by the road. I drove to the end of the road where I barely turned around and back, and parked one kilometer below the Vogar junction.
From there back on foot to Blato, from where I headed towards Krstenica around 9:00. And how miserable it was at six in the evening to walk half an hour on the empty road to my parked car.
The next year they started collecting toll (I think 8 €/trip both ways, you could leave the car at Blato as long as you wanted). If the toll was in euros it must have been a year or so later, but I might be wrong.
The fact is, since then I never parked before the junction, no matter how late I was. And I tell you I'm very satisfied with that.
Cheers to all, especially to Tone, although we never fully agreed on parking and tolls, but it's important that we agree on more important things.

In 1995 or 1996, the toll to Planina Blato was 600 tolarjev, later they raised it.
How it was before 1995 I don't know.
The road was then I think still fully gravel.

Exactly as Tadej says. I think it was September '95, when after a week I returned from our alpine pasture and was surprised that all those holes on the road, which was a ruin, were filled with gravel. In the valley there was already a chain and the warden. He let me out without any problem.
It's true that in those years in the afternoon and morning during weekdays often no one charged, sometimes also on weekends if the weather looked bad. It was of course gravel and when you returned the car was half a kilo heavier from dust.

One completely practical example: With the team we went on a three-day ski touring traverse across the Julijce. Start at Savica, goal in Stara Fužina. Since we had two cars, we wanted to drive one already on the first day to the planned goal (to S. Fužina).

But where to park in S. Fužina?

We played through all variants from the link parking in Bohinj

Variant 1: We planned to drive the car through the barrier towards Blato, park right at the bottom, near the start of snow, near Voje-Blato junction (to which, as we hoped, we would ski from Kanjavec). That would cost (3x15) 45.00 EUR. Not cheap anymore!
Then we found out the barrier is still closed; this variant is off anyway.

Variant 2: This was to leave the car before the Blato barrier. That's the cost killer! For full day (06-20h) you pay (14x3) 42 EUR. Meaning for almost three days around 100.00 EUR!
Additionally I checked at Bohinj Tourism what it means that the parking is closed at night? It means if the warden comes he can fine you ;-(

Variant 3: The cheapest option turned out parking Senožeta (a bit further from Srednja vas; under the ski slope), which is 2 EUR per 24 hours. Total 6.00 EUR for three days.
Of course that includes about 4 km (or 1 h) extra walking in ski boots on an already long tour.

In the end we went with "whatever happens"! Both cars left at Savica. Since that Friday there was no collector from Metropolitana d.o.o., which manages the parking for the owner (which is Archdiocese of Ljubljana), we didn't have to pay 10 EUR per car. This parking was free ;-)
Last day we skied down Suha quite late. To the Blato barrier we already had 20 min walking behind us. Since at the barrier we didn't get a hitchhike or friend ride, we called a taxi. He took us to Savica for 20.00 EUR.

The whole tour: unrepeatable!!! See post on Snežak (ski touring website)

They say in winter at Savica they don't charge. Unless they changed something recently by chance. I always just left the car there if no one was charging.

In summer lately I also leave the car at the campsite below Srednja vas. At least peace from collectors. Those 4km to Stara Fužina weren't a problem so far, even though I went to the end of the seven lakes same day and back.

Principally until a bit before 2020 you could get to Blato without toll, just had to be early enough. Early enough was good also to get any normal parking spot at all.

Lately they charge also at Savica in winter. But that money goes to God's hands they say... given that priests collect.

According to you only "those red ones" are entitled to collect and precisely those red ones stick those fine notes on cars. That wouldn't even be controversial, if they didn't do it on private land for which they of course have no owner authorizations...

According to you the world is flat velik nasmeh That's how that reasoning works...

No, what is happening more and more in Slovenia these days has gone beyond all bounds of good taste. Everyone wants to rip someone off at every step. And I always write that.

Some just don't like order, especially if you have to pay for it.
Nobody will direct and schedule you for free every weekend through mountain valleys and pastures.nasmeh

That's right. The concept of "order and discipline" has caused much more evil than good throughout history.

If there wasn't chaos on these busy parking lots in the mountains and below them, I'm sure they wouldn't introduce parking fees.
Even in cities there were few paid parking lots years ago. With increased traffic it became more or less all paid there too. Only this way access to those objects we sometimes urgently need is enabled for everyone.
In the hills it's more a consequence of increased visits to some areas. This burdens the environment and people living there.
It will be necessary to realize that it's not necessary to always visit the same places. nasmeh

What kind of order on pl Blato are you dreaming ofzavijanje z očmi? Indeed I haven't been there for a couple of years, but from descriptions it's clear that greed and excess are still present here in this area (and not only there). Order would be if a warden waited up there and directed you to a specific spot where you park safely. But when everything is full it's road closure. More than 6 € per day with such organized infrastructure is exaggeration or ripping off for me and amen. For me this topic is finished.
