We woke up to a pleasant snowy morning, also quite cold. In Ljubljana snow whirls with northeast wind swirling. Older people say it's Rus (since blowing from there). Now almost 10cm, and steadily thickening. Attaching some pics. Lp!

Heavy snowing and -8°C.
This heavy snow has a bit crossed my plans for today. Maybe after lunch jump to G. Oljko and stop at "Pri Jug" and drink two dl of red by the wood stove! And maybe snap a pic on the way!!

If such weather till March would be super. I went alone with dogs to forest, a bit shoveled in front of house - light as foam. Here about 15cm. Brežice. Pity it'll be taken early next week. Hope next week when vacations some opportunity for our dads. Tonight on Sv. Vid and Cirnik will be nice - with torches and lights.

Viharnik, what do you think for tomorrow, where would you recommend based on conditions. Anywhere for touring or wait. Otherwise thought Kredarica or little Mojstrovka but now conditions different. If you can advise or someone else, I'll be grateful. lp

Don't know, snow will be plenty, from steep parts will pour down, main roads passable, side and forest not so good. If have skis suggest higher tour, e.g. Pokljuka ridge or Pl. under Golica towards Golica, Struska, Trupejevo poldne. On summit slopes smart with shovel dig snow to old base and make stability test. Watch steep sections where due to icy base and new snow not bonding possible avalanche trigger or slide. So recommend now rounder mountains and avoid steep parts because don't know what's below. Lp

If the four and strong thaw don't worry you, plus heavy snowfall to 70 cm newfallen, (unstable snow cover), then I advise you not to go to the mountains in winter anymore, because you take everything too lightly... I don't mean to lecture anyone here on hribi.net. Personally, I'll stay home, because conditions are/will be bad. Now do as you want.

Snežnik definitely not, as more snow and thick fog are expected, which extremely hinders orientation there, besides the hut is closed according to my info.

Urban, I think all who write and read here can hardly wait, when we're free, to dash from home to mountains, but in such conditions think there's nothing to add, as geologist told you everything. Mountains you or us will wait. I'll go to Mengeška koča, drink 2 dl and eat half sausage. Cheers Matjaz

Currently on Katarina above Ljubljana it's already snowing. Due to thaw in lowlands, even lower mountains (steep forested areas) will be dangerous to visit. For this weekend more than a trip to some Šmarna gora hill or lower hills road areas is not suitable. Also from Mon to Wed thaw and lots of precipitation expected, so only Thu and Fri we can hope for some freezing and thus partial stabilization of snow cover in mountains. In high mountains conditions will remain very life-threatening!.

Slavnik, Vremščica, Žabnik from Golac near Obrov, Sveta Trojica (near Pivka), Slivnica, Domžalski dom on Velika planina from Volovjek (left on road to "turning place" then right to hut), Kranjska Reber from Črnivec, from Otlice to Otliško okno, from Predmeja to hut on Čavn, from Predmeja to Koča pod Golaki (also to Mali Golak), from Predmeja along karst edge towards Col.
No guarantee for reaching goal.
Reach depends on current conditions and ability and will to break trail.
I go try to break trail (with snowshoes) to Sveta Trojica.
