Polhograjska Grmada and Tošč

Print
iztok30. 03. 2008 08:08:30
To those who don't feel like trudging through deep snow I suggest Polhograjska Grmada (from Božna) and Tošč, back the same way or through Mačkov graben. The trail is mostly dry, except the last third of the ascent to Tošč, where there's some "rotten snow" and consequent mud.

At least we don't go to mountains just for the view. In mountains you find peace, fresh air, take care of a healthy body; if there's a view, it's a gift for the effort invested.

I completely agree, just for comparison Sunday trip to Konjiška gora, where the air is full of intoxicating wild garlic smell (not the most pleasant), everything green... and continuation to Boča, where at the top there's wonderful scent of some kind of wild orchid (like in a perfumery), this way too you can experience our beauties and even the scents of nature. Good luck!

On today's sunny day I headed from Dvor to Grmada. The path starts gently, followed by a steep part of a few dozen meters, then again gentle to the hunting lodge. Above the lodge a little marten joined me on the path, basking in warm sun rays. The path was slightly frozen in the morning, almost no snow. On the return already different conditions, of course on the sunny side. Views beautiful, thrilled once more! LP Andrej

This morning didn't look promising for higher mountains, so I used the time for a circular tour through beautiful Polhograjci.
Before driving under Tošč, I first had to thaw the car lock with a lighter to get in. From now on I'll carry a lighter (vžigalnik as we say at home) on hikes. A little above Legastje at the parking I park and via farm Omejc ascend to the saddle between both Toščs, look around a bit, eat an apple and hurry to Gonte and neighboring Polh. Grmada. Paths all well passable, little snow, mainly shady spots, bit of ice here and there no problem, just creates winter atmosphere. Up top light wind from SW, higher in mountains much stronger, visible from clouds already. Those who went higher today will report how it was. Back descend now asphalted road from Gont to Rovtar. Pleasant circular tour suitable for any weather.nasmeh

I know that de-icer spray for locks has existed for a long time. If you have a lighter, you can warm the key a bit and it opens the door the same. Usually if the lock is dry, no problem with freezing. If water gets in then it freezes. It's good to drive the car to the garage now and then to dry it. Anyway, when it was cold I couldn't open the side doors either, but one I could, to climb in. Still thanks Pero for the tip.confusedgrim look

Instead of lounging I went to Grmada from Topol. At the path start still somehow ok, then the path became very icy in places, very wind-packed snow in places. Especially toward the top very unpleasant. Of course micro crampons at home, but in future if not on boots at least in pack. At the top two of us, Tošč with cloud cap, return path very slippery, so glad didn't end up chasing hares on the ground. Attaching some pics. Lp Borut

Today, a bit for the soul, a bit for fitness, in the snowy idyll, I visited the highest peak of the Polhograjci.
I start the path from the parking lot above Legastje and head via the Omejc farm toward the Tošč summit. In the morning at the farm the dog pulled sleep into the hut, because outside it was snowing. But what, when I had to pass the house and woke him. Although he already knows me, he barked thoroughly at me, German shepherd beast, no doubt! Higher on the track the snow thickens quickly and branches bend toward the ground from the snow weight. Silence is complete, only half-south snow cheerfully creaks under the feet. First I break trail to the saddle, just higher a deer track joins my path. On the summit ridge cornices formed due to the south wind and beautiful snow sculptures on the needles of the tree branches. Up after one and a half hours of walking I shortly refuel with an isotonic drink and already descend over Mali Tošč to TK Gont. No tracks here either, so I make trail also to Polh. Grmada, although it started snowing more. I go up a bit my own way on the slope and join the upper secured section with cables. From the Polh. Gradec side someone makes a track to the top. I eat cherry frutabela and a few sips thereof, then already descend to the saddle toward Katarina, of course again untracked. There I turn left onto the flat wide track that brings me back to Gonte. From there comfortable steps on the plowed road to Rovtar. For the whole path in winter conditions I used 3 hours, with a few short stops and 700m elevation. I warmly recommend the path, because now it is really nice up therenasmeh.
