About a week ago the summit ridge of Porezen from Hoča 1514m to the top was pretty windblown with little snow. Now there's about 20cm or more because this ridge is first from the south and catches lots of precipitation.

Yes, go check, nothing bites up there.

Porezen really doesn't bite. Viharnik is right. The cold bites though, but that's negligible compared to the views and beauty as far as the eye reached. And it reached far. New snow up to a bit before the summit, which is almost bare, around 15 cm, in drifts up to the knees. Nice tour in idyllic surroundings.

After a long time, today 3.1.2010 was again my day (Nives stayed home due to heat), as I could head to the hills in nice weather. I chose Porezen as goal, where I was once but don't remember it due to bad weather. I left the car at parking by local road in Davča, since I couldn't go further on the forest road due to snow, which extended the route quite a bit. Still progressed well. In nice weather reached junction where path turns to shepherd hut. Didn't follow that (snowed in) but continued to Porezen over Mederce summit and then along ridge straight to top or monument. There caution was needed as icy slabs under snow perfect for slipping. Though slope steep, I managed and arrived at summit in under 3 hours. At top cold wind blowing, softened by warm sun. Due to nice weather clear view of nearby hills, and surrounding and distant mountains. Hope many such days this year.

Has anyone been to Porezen these days? On Saturday we're heading up, don't know yet which path the leader chooses, but interested in conditions up there, especially if crampons needed?

best regards

Yesterday we were on Porezen, conditions for skiing are excellent, snow sinks towards the summit because there is quite a lot of it. Crampons are not needed, or depending on which side you go from, it is better to have them in your backpack. Best regards.

What are the conditions these days for a hike to Porezen? Which direction do you recommend? Thanks in advance!

Today we made the ascent to Porezen from the Davča direction. Without snowshoes or skis I do not recommend the ascent, as it sinks deeply and it is sensible to wait for the snow to settle at least a bit. LP Andrej

I am interested where it is possible to park at Petrovo brdo?

In front of Planinski dom Petrovo brdo. If coming from the Železniki direction, it is at the crossroads where you go left to Tolmin, right to Sorica. Anyway, I recommend stopping at the hut.

Thanks GregorC for the info. I went up today. The path is trodden but in places it is easier to walk beside the track than on it. Towards the top, when you get out of the forest, drifted snow covers the path so you go more by feel upwards, then anyway you reach the ridge and there is no problem. Otherwise the snow is nicely frozen and there is no problem with walking, especially with small crampons.

Today it was not very friendly on Porezen. The track from Davča runs straight up the slope and is well sheltered from the wind up to the ridge, but on the ridge it blows quite hard and the fog did not want to clear at all. There was an incredible crowd in the hut, so you could hardly stand. If I compare the conditions with last year's....mrk pogled

Yesterday we were at the Memorial winter ascent to Porezen, organized by PD Cerkno from ZB NOV Cerkno. The track from Petrovo brdo was good, there were also many people on the hike. Otherwise there was very strong wind on the ridge carrying rain, so we were all soaked. The hut was open, so we could warm up somewhat, but not dry. Due to the strong wind the memorial celebration was held in the hut.

Yes, weather was really bad, crowd was much bigger last year than this year, as it was on Saturday. Nice greeting and good luck.
