Runners all honor to YOU! It's real joy that our guys are always somewhere around the medals. And full praise to the organizers.

Just a few days left until the most important event in mountain running this year here - the 15th Grintovec Mountain Run. Luckily, the weather will be nice this year. It even looks too nice, as it will be hot. The race start will be on Sunday at 9:00 in Kamniška Bistrica.

Over 280 runners from 14 countries are already registered. Among them is last year's winner, Eritrean Azerya, who predicts a new course record, and current European vice-champion Baldaccini. Hope to see as many as possible!

@Bojan A.
I admire everyone who manages to run to the top of Grintovec. Also those who get "disqualified" because they are too slow and don't meet the required time.

Up to here all good and right, but when I looked at the prize table, it got dark before my eyes. How can the organizer discriminate against women like this and give them lower prizes or even NOTHING?
Are we going back to 1967 when they wanted to prevent Kathrine Switzer from running the Boston Marathon just because she was a woman?
Is this really happening in Slovenia? Are there really still people among us who think a woman's sports achievement is worth less than a man's? Sad, really sad.

-----------------------

Every participant receives a certificate and a commemorative gift. The fastest three in each category receive a medal. Rich cash prizes await the top 15 and top 7 women absolute (table). Rich practical prizes for the top three in each category.
Total value of all prizes is 15,000 €.

Irina - I agree with you. Organizers' disaster.

I don't think this is any discrimination, because things are simply not equalized like at various athletic competitions, tennis etc. where participation of both sexes is balanced. But if it's like in mountain runs with a ratio practically 10:1 in favor of men (230:30), it's not realistic to expect equal prizes. That's the case ultimately on all marathons too, where the ratio between sexes is similar

As Zippo said. Unfortunately, the women's competition is much less tight than the men's. Last year, for example, 35 women and 217 men participated.

Otherwise, the Grintovec run counts as World Cup in Mountain Running (so-called Grand Prix). That's why the organizer is also forced to announce cash prizes for the best. In reality, it's still money that decides quality. More money, better competitors come. When there will once be several 100,000€ for victory in mountain running, as on the biggest marathons, you can rest assured that the entire Kenyan and Ethiopian national teams will come running here.

I really can't wait and impatiently await this race. I also hope many runners and spectators will gather, so that all the great effort that the Papežs together with friends put into organizing this extreme run is honored.

Then you couldn't call it sport anymore. Just like all sports, world championships, Olympics... a long time ago are no longer sport but pure business where 'athletes' (rather modern gladiators) earn the least.

True. BTW doping control at Grintovec is for winners and some "lucky one" among the top ten.

and how about doping at those mentioned marathons?

Bojan_A26. 07. 2013 08:41:27
Doping control is mandatory - to what extent depends on the level of the event.

Also at the European Championship in mountain running there was doping control. Quite a few national team colleagues went through it - supposedly not fun at all. Because the doctor is there all the time watching you pee. And if you're too embarrassed - it can be quite an awkward experience.

This Irina's comparison with Kathrine Switzer and the prize pool of the Grintovec run is a bit far-fetched.

I think men are discriminated against here.

258 men and 45 women are registered.
Prize goes to 5% best men and 15% best women.

For fair distribution, only the first two should receive it.

If the prize table is really as Irina says, then it's definitely discriminatory, regardless of the number of registered women.

I don't think so.
They would be discriminated against if they wanted to compete for the first cash prize with men, but couldn't because they're women.
Without male participation, there wouldn't be a Grintovec run for women at all, let alone cash prizes. Women are more privileged than discriminated.

Come on, stop it! It'll never be right for everyone. In as large a number as possible let's go cheer the runners and spend a nice day in the beautiful mountains, in good company, away from the hellish heat. I'll cheer for all, men and women, good and less good...! Courage and good will for the competitors and other visitors of this year's 15th Grintovec Run!

No Becar, I didn't mean it that way, but really you're not interested in what I meant, right, important that you can continue polemicizing.
And Maucec40 nicely wrote to stop already and rather cheer for all participants who probably don't burden themselves with all this.
