Circular tour to Slavnik (1028 m) – Primorski Triglav! Start from Kozina, sea views, wonderful panorama at the top, descent through autumn-colored landscape towards villages Skadanščina and Povžane and return to Kozina. 38.4 km and 969 meters of real touring bike enjoyment!

Foggy-cloudy weekend in Styria offered an ideal opportunity to visit the highest peak of Čičarija. A beautiful circular tour from Prešnica with descent to Podgorje was done (hard to decide in which direction it's better to do it). We walked a good 13 kilometers, overcoming nearly 600 meters of elevation gain. There was quite a crowd at the hut, but let's leave it at that, since I was part of the problem myself. Thanks to the locals for their patience with newcomers, velik nasmeh .

In search of sun we successfully spent the holidays on the Primorska coast nasmeh. All sorts of conditions, from icy wind tossing us along the path, elsewhere almost spring-like temperatures. Common to all days was beautiful weather and little snow that didn't require any technical aids.

First we headed to Slavnik, this time from Hrpelje. We hadn't hiked from this starting point before, plus I routed the trail through the unknown Hrpeljska gora and later planina Jegno. Almost everywhere we followed the marks, just sometimes longer routes instead of shortcuts velik nasmeh. The path was mostly macadam road, sometimes forest trails. Towards the summit snow appeared in the winter shade, but it didn't hinder progress. On southern slopes there was just a trace. Tumova hut was open and full of visitors. Prices are very friendly and many places could follow their example.

We descended past Prešnica and thus returned to the start via the other side of the ridge. Sun had already melted the ground on sunny slopes of the summit area and accordingly there was plenty of mud. Lower down it was better, as the ground was different and not soaked from snow. In the final part macadam followed again, which is plentiful in the Primorska hills anyway. But we're used to it and it doesn't bother us. After a good 4 km it brought us back to the start and the loop was closed. More in the photo story…

Coordinates of starting point (Hrpelje): 45.6049219N, 13.9461958E
We park at the elementary school in Hrpelje, where the first marker is on the wall :)1
Hrpelje is a neat place, the name probably comes from the words *Herr pelje*, when the count drove past with the carriage2
Many sights are nicely marked, such as fig trees that were used for raising silkworms.3
The former kašča is also marked. It was intended for collecting tithes for the castle and church lords.4
We continue through the village …5
Another sight, the former ice house.6
In the pits they broke ice in winter and stored it for warm days, when they carted it to Trieste.7
Soon the first sun rays greet us, but not for long.8
We leave the direct path and also turn to Mišjo šogo, the old name for Hrpeljsko goro.9
We're in the shade again. It's not really warm, and on top an unpleasant bora blows.10
Weather topic for conspiracy theorists :)11
The path is rutted, indicating heavy traffic.12
One quickly understands why. The summit is bare and panoramic, with a nice bench for company.13
We won't stop, it's too cold …14
View from the summit towards Kozina and Hrpelje.15
We descend the other side and at the junction follow the Jegno direction.16
hunting hut along the path17
Slavnik in sight, and even the snow dusting is visible.18
But we don't take shortcuts. Since we're new here, we want to see as much as possible. Ahead is the Jegno highland.19
Nicely maintained and filled animal feeder.20
Short stop for refueling and then we head uphill.21
We're first here, no tracks ahead of us.22
We take another longer route, this time along the road to the SPP1 branch.23
We ascend along it towards the summit section.24
The grand finale …25
At the top. As expected, it's quite windy, so we quickly descend.26
Tumova koča on Slavnik.27
Inside it's full of people and many have ordered lunch. At a glance at the prices, it's quickly understandable.28
We leave the friendly hut and head towards Cigan.29
Just before Grmada the markers lead us towards Prešnica. Lower prohibitions obviously occur here too.30
Again winter shade. Here the ground is frozen, but muddy in the sun.31
The only unmarked section. A two-kilometer-long path almost horizontally crosses the slopes above the railway.32
Prešnica is deep below us.33
A gravel road follows past the hunting lodge below Glavica towards the starting point.34
Curiosity along the trail, a 380 m deep borehole for monitoring groundwater in connection with the motorway.35
Hrpelje. The loop is closed.36
We parked here, during the holidays it doesn't bother anyone.37
GPS track, not the most optimal route :). It added up to 24 km and 900 elevation gain.38
