Today I made the third attempt to find Klek alpine pasture. Once I went in deep snow in winter even with snowshoes, but I gave up too soon. Once in summer, but I didn't reach it - only to Meja dolina alpine pasture. This year I carefully studied these forest roads and arrived by forest road right below Klek alpine pasture. From there I had only twenty minutes on the marked path to the alpine pasture. The alpine pasture really enchanted me. It has an upper eastern part and a southern lower part. In the east there is a newer alpine dairy with a large barn. They have their own spring above the dairy. Here they have renovated two mining, shepherd huts. The small stone huts had two floors. Below was the barn for livestock, above the living quarters. The first hut has no ceiling, in the second we climb to the upper floor by steps. Inside there are panels with interesting contents. This alpine pasture was known already in antiquity - excavations testify. The greatest flourishing was during the mining on the alpine pasture, where they mined iron ore in open pits and transported it to the valley to the bloomeries. At that time they also cut down almost all beeches on Pokljuka, because they made charcoal for the bloomeries. These miners' huts were on the edges of the alpine pasture - excavations testify. Mining is still visible today, because it is full of some craters - from open pits. They had wells, which are still visible in the eastern part of the alpine pasture and also ruins of buildings are here. Then we have to descend a bit to the southern lower part of the alpine pasture. Here there are also two ponds for watering livestock. The upper part of the alpine pasture is accessible from the east only by tractor. The lower part of the alpine pasture is also only by tractor from another part of the alpine pasture. The lower part of the alpine pasture also has its own water intake. The newer alpine dairies are as nicely maintained as in the upper part of the alpine pasture. In summer it is really wonderful here. The alpine pasture is entirely grazing - below and above. From the alpine pasture there is a wonderful view of Debelo peč. In the continuation of my wanderings I tried to reach the alpine pasture also from Lipanca alpine pasture, but after two junctions the path into the forest got lost, so I didn't continue.

From Klek alpine pasture I set out to find Pekel alpine pasture. Ugh, what a horrible name. I was really curious what it looks like. At the bottom of Klek alpine pasture we head along the somewhat poor mountain road - they come with tractors to the lower part of Klek alpine pasture along it. What I read at the hut on Klek alpine pasture already made me think it would be in this direction, because they wrote that they carried all the rubbish to the edge of Pekel alpine pasture and from there took it to the valley. I really came along this road to a wide parking lot and continued along the road. Now you have to be very careful not to miss the left junction. The junction is barely visible and quickly brings you to Pekel alpine pasture. From Klek alpine pasture to Pekel alpine pasture we won't need even half an hour. It's actually a not too large meadow with two ponds. You could see that they grazed here this year too. There is no hell here. Perhaps the alpine pasture was once more extensive and has probably overgrown considerably along the edges. I didn't find any traces of any hut.

I always stop at Mrzli Studenec too. I've always considered it a mountain pasture as well, although it's not called a rovt either. I haven't noticed it being called a pasture ever. These pastures were used for grazing just a few years ago. Now I really haven't seen cattle grazing there for quite some time. Before World War II this was the Pokljuka center for charcoal burners and coppice workers. There used to be a real little village of their huts here - today there's no trace of that settlement. Another such center was Planina Meja Planine - even today there are full of ruins of their buildings there. Today that pasture is completely overgrown. A couple of years ago I found there only a half-collapsed hut. Mrzli Studenec is more of a path crossroads - down to the valley towards Zatrnik or to Bohinj. Straight on we head towards Sport Hotel, Jelka and further to Rudno Polje. To the right on the macadam we have two roads. The right one takes us to the foresters' buildings, the left is the starting point for Planina Lipanca and further to Debelo Peč. Now it also serves as a resting spot. On the left side there's a picnic area, on the right a private hut. On the right above the road there's a larger building - looks private.

Pokljuka pastures could actually be divided above the road and below the road. Above the road should be the real Pokljuka pastures -Lipanca,Klek,Pekel,Velika Raven, Kranjska Dolina, Meja Doline,Javornik,Pokljuka. We could also count Konjščica and Jezerce (under Mali Draški Vrh). Somewhere Rudno Polje is still marked as a pasture, but it hasn't been for a long time. Somewhere they also count the upper part of the Rudno Polje ski slope -Krašce among pastures. But at Planina Pokljuka we have a couple of rovts, which are supposed to be like sub-pastures. Rovts are somehow characterized by being very flat grazing areas or for mowing.

Below the road are more Bohinj pastures -we could divide them into left and right parts. The left part starts already with the pasture above Zatrnik-Berjanco, continues with Rečiška and Grajska, a bit lower Belska and even lower Planina za Jamo. We have the central part with Pokrovca and Ravne. Once the largest pasture in this area-Goreljek has become a large holiday village with Spodnji and Zgornji Goreljek, if I understood correctly.

Also the Bohinj pastures above the lake could be divided into left and right -Pokljuka part. Pokljuka ones are Uskovnica,Zajamniki,Praprotnica,Konjska Dolina,Četeže,Javornica, Blatce, planina na Šehu, somewhere Lom is also recorded.
The right ones are also called Fužinske pastures -Sp. and Zg.Vogar, Hebed,Vodični Vrh,Viševnik, Planina pri Jezeru, Dedno Polje, Blato, Ovčarija, Planina v Lazu,Krstenica, Jezerce, Sp. and Zg. Grintovica, Vrtača, Trstje,Zg and Sp. Tosc, planina Velo Polje, planina Malo Polje, planina pod Mišelj Vrhom, last but not least also Voje.

That's how I see them and that's how I divided and listed them.

I haven't visited all of them yet. But not many are left for me.

I always explore the historical background of the pastures I visit. It's a bit harder to find something for certain pastures. I also play a bit of researcher and especially from older people I learn many interesting things about our pastures. But there's not much written about our pastures. You can find quite a lot of useful stuff on various mountaineering and other forums and I already know quite a few authors who write about our pastures. Articles can be found in many places, but I can't find any in-depth books or handbooks. I found a wonderful article by author Edvard Čerček on the pastures of the Southern Kamnik Alps as he titles them. Really educational material where he presents the historical background of the pastures, ownership long ago, how the names of the pastures originated and much more. But I haven't figured out when this quite extensive material of his was created. In it we learn about pastures that are not even mentioned today-for example the pasture under Kamniško Sedlo, which was at 1400 m altitude and there was even a shepherd's hut. It covered the lowest part of the saddle-called V Klinu. It mentions as pastures for example Petkove Njive under Planina Korošica, Kozlovec-both were abandoned already in 1925.

Even on the second or third visit to a pasture I notice, learn or find something interesting. Last time I went across Planina Dolge Njive (I don't know which grazing community it belongs to) under Cjanovca in the Zaplate ridge. Next to the modern cute little wooden hut (private property) with all possible comforts-even TV - there are ruins of an even larger hut that hasn't been there for a long time. Now the ruins were clearly visible. Maybe on previous visits they were overgrown and I didn't notice them. Otherwise the whole pasture -it's quite long -though narrow - is nicely cleared of ruins and overgrowth is prevented. The path from the saddle between Mali Grintavec and Srednji Vrh is marked. True, the marks have faded, but PD Preddvor assures that they will renew them soon. To the pastures that lead roughly horizontally to Hudičev Boršt even a clearing has been made-allegedly done by hunters. On this pasture only sheep are grazed.
Just below the saddle there was still snow.1

Now (because there's no sun that in summer really bakes here and consequently no adders) is also the time when it's nice to visit (overgrown) Planina Zajavor above Zadnjica. At one of the sharp bends on Utar left in the forest you find the start of the remains of the mule track and then to the exit from the forest no problems, at the very edge yes, there you need to find the easiest passage through the dense overgrown area. From there you can continue slightly right upwards, with a bit of feel for pathless terrain you follow the game trails, and when you reach about the height of Luknja you continue almost horizontally to it. Planina Zajavor was very lively in its time, for example the Kopiščarji grazed up there. We a few years ago on the way from the pasture to Luknja even found water, a real streamlet gurgling at the foot of Mali Pihavec. Very nice is also the hike Luknja - above pl. Zajavor - Kriški Podi (or vice versa), but that's already quite demanding pathless terrain - the grass slopes are no less steep than in Loška Stena or on Pelci . . .

Branko, I don't know from which sources you list the Pokljuka pastures, but you're missing at least Ilovec (Ivovc) and Jelje, which I've crossed many times.

I use multiple sources from maps to various articles and records by different authors. Planina Ilovec I actually haven't come across anywhere -I'll check the map around Galetovec again. On the Sidarta map there's no mountain Ilovec at all. On the Triglav National Park map by GZS the mountain is drawn. But Planina Ilovec is not marked. Now I know where it is. Planina Jelje is not drawn on maps at all. On the map there are only Sp. and Zg. Jelje. The author of the lecture that turbo mentions lists it and it belongs to the local community Srednja Vas in Bohinj.

turbo, yes I also studied that article from the lecture. I didn't even list the Rovts. Of all the pastures listed in that lecture, maybe only two are missing from my records, but I have some extra that the author didn't list at all. Actually, this division of pastures by local communities is the most correct.

The TNP map bears the year 2001, from Sidarta 2012, but it's less accurate. Both are already worn out. Gotta buy a new laminated one. I know Janez, and I know he knows everything around Bohinj and Pokljuka.

Today I went to check out Belska Planina. Started from Bohinska Bela past the Iglica waterfall on a secured path through Slamniki village. Passed by farm tourism at Vaznk. It also goes past some meadow with two cute little houses, past a nicely renovated house that the owner sadly doesn't use, past two abandoned highland farms-on the way back I even saw livestock grazing here. Also passed by some pasture under the road where there's even a water catchment and pipe to the trough. At the junction for Galetovec and Belska Planina, we go right to the planina and soon spot it. If we go towards Galetovec, we hit another pasture under Galetovec that apparently belongs to Belska Planina too. There are even ruins of a hut. Also a water catchment and trough here. From the junction after about ten minutes of walking we spot a spacious planina with several buildings. More than ten of them and exclusively used as vacation objects. In the middle of the planina there's a big open barn-they graze here in summer. No spring, they use roof runoff.

Now I have two more planinas in my basket. Yesterday on the way to Križevnik we first saw Planina Ravne-on the sign it says Planina Ravni. It's located on the vast Dleskovska Plateau, surrounded by dense larch forests, the largest in Europe and protected as a park. Like some foreigners there are two planinas-Planina Ravne and Planina Polšak. On Planina Ravne there's a cute one I don't know exactly if it's a mountain hut or just a shepherd's hut, nor if it's open type. A bit to the left stands a new log cabin that really serves as a shepherd's object-the owner was even here. Above this nice wooden hut you see an extensive clear-cut, but it's not a clear-cut. Years ago it was a huge landslide that destroyed all larches in the way and stopped in front of the hut. Didn't reach the hut, but the landslide wind blew off the hut's chimney. Under that new object there's even a puddle for livestock. That new object even has a cistern for rainwater collection. Don't know about any spring on the planina. Above the planina there was some wooden object that they at least partially demolished recently. Next to the road there's even a large abandoned trough for watering livestock. To the right above the planina they made a big clearing-cut and thus expanded the pasture areas of the planina itself. The planina is indeed a pasture one. Yesterday there were lots of cars here and also on the higher parking lot there were cars.

This is Planina Polšak, which is somehow under Križevnik. Here stands a nice small log cabin. On the little hill above the planina there's even a table with a bench. The scorched remains of the old hut that burned down are still visible. Surprisingly, the completely black soil that the moles seem to love.

Today to Jezerski Stog across five planinas - Planina Blato, Planina Krstenica, Planina Laz, Planina Pri Jezeru.

First time I visited Planina Jezerce. I had already observed it from Ogradi. We reach it via Planina Krstenica on the way to Jezerski Stog. In about half an hour from Planina Krstenica we're there. We spot a quite extensive flat grassy planina where they graze in summer. Once it was a planina with seven shepherd huts. Sadly, the once very populated planina is remembered only by stone ruins. On the edge of the planina under Ogradi there's even some wooden remains of a building. The planina has a water catchment a bit higher and even a trough for watering livestock.

This with Planina Krstenica is a bit harsh. Why so superficial Brane? In the first picture it's the planina in Laz!
Comment is unnecessary because Brane removed the first picture!

Today to two planinas of the wide Jelovica. The first was the abandoned Planina Kališnik. Already in Dražgoše the sign directs us to Vodiška Planina. We drive on asphalt to a small parking above the village where we park. Signs direct us to Vodiška Planina and that's also the direction for Planina Kališnik. In about one hour we're at Planina Kališnik. We descend to it on a steep path from the main path to Vodiška Planina. It's an abandoned planina. On it stands an abandoned already crumbling shepherd's hut. Roofs are collapsing and the roof has holes already - shame. But it was quite spacious. Pasture areas don't look too big, but for a couple of cows there was enough grazing. Nearby you can notice some built stone walls, but they'd need to be seen in summer. Maybe just retaining walls.
