On Friday I explored Bohinj alpine pastures again. Finally I once descended from the alpine pasture Zgornji Tosc to the alpine pasture Spodnji Tosc. From Studorski preval in spring I exactly saw the ruins of the alpine pasture abandoned for more than a century or a bit less. Not even sheep go down there anymore. On the alpine pasture Zgornji Tosc and on Tosc itself I meet them every summer. The winding little path down to the alpine pasture is well visible from the pass. Now this little path is in bad condition, because there are small landslides here. The alpine pasture itself is completely overgrown -not even ruins are visible from the path anymore. Somehow in the middle of the path towards Uskovnica on our right side downhill is the alpine pasture Trstje. About this alpine pasture there's no sign from the path either. A bit off the path one can still find ruins of long collapsed shepherds' huts. I don't know when the alpine pasture was finally abandoned. The alpine pasture is completely overgrown with high bushes and young trees.

I have already been to the alpine pasture Velika Poljana several times. Today I finally photographed it. I came to it all the way from Sv. Lovrenc above Bašelj.

The next alpine pasture was Mala Poljana. Here there is also a large hut. One part is shepherds', the other part hunters'.

Well, I've conquered another mountain again. This time it's Mangarska planina. We get to it if we go to Mangart to Mangarsko sedlo. From the road we turn left and spot it. It's quite extensive. The sheep folds are excellently arranged. There were no more sheep there.

On Sunday, when going to Šober and Veliki Grintavec, we somehow halfway reached the pasture Kolja jama-1520m. In Italian Alpe di Rutte, in German Greuteraibl. The pasture is abandoned. On the left edge of the pasture is the wooden shelter Capanna Cinque Punti. Part of this shelter with two rooms is supposedly available to hikers. One has two beds, the other room is supposedly a kitchen with a wood stove. But I didn't check what the sources say about this shelter. We observed it from afar. The grassy pasture is like a small amphitheater above which on the western edge stand the bold peaks of Rabeljevih špic. There are supposed to be five. Only one is supposed to be accessible to more skilled hikers.

Yesterday I was for the first time on Ribčeva planina. We drove there from Škofja Loka past Soriska planina and past Bitenjska planina. With a big bus on gravel it was quite demanding. On the pasture there is a hunting hut and a few other buildings.

On Wednesday, 25.05.2017, we toured from Kuhinja pasture to the church in Javorca, passing many pastures. Some we just passed by. First on the path was Kuhinja pasture -991m. It is a grazing pasture. After six years, it is alive again as a grazing or dairy pasture. Dairy products from shepherds. Great Tolminc cheese made here, geographically protected. Several shepherd objects in typical style. Also PD Kobarid hut - listed at 1002m. Reached via good asphalt road but narrow, max 20-seat van or minibus. Huge nice parking with panels. Main start for Krn. Also Pt miru trail point - special color mark. Sadly, we didn't see the pasture, just passed on gravel road. No livestock yet.

On Wednesday, 25.05.2017, next pasture was Kašina pasture. Also just passed this one. Also grazing pasture. At 1060m. They offer dairy products. Pasture objects hidden in trees. No livestock yet.

Wednesday, 25.05.2017 - Then we descended to alpine pasture Sleme -1448m. Alpine pasture Sleme is located under Red Cliff. It ranks among the largest pastures in Julijci. Alpine pasture Sleme is important for preserving the cultural landscape of tangible and intangible cultural heritage (building, cheesemaking knowledge, production of Tolminc cheese, livestock handling on pastures, rotational grazing and mowing) Alpine pasture Sleme and Medrje, which I will present next, are in joint ownership of agricultural community of Zatolmin village -37 owners. Otherwise the pasture is very remote. From Zatolmin village 10km or more bad mountain road leads to the pasture, which they maintain and renovate. They take exemplary care of both pastures. Years ago they introduced family grazing system. This means certain family cares for the pasture certain time. Of course grazing and dairy are included. Pasture buildings were severely damaged by earthquake in 1998. In 2006-2007 within post-earthquake reconstruction buildings with dairy were renovated. Dairy is modernly equipped - solar cells. In 2011, for example, they produced 6300kg cheese. They make max 3kg loaves. They share cheese fraternally by exact key. Most they transport to valley and sell from there. They carefully manage both pastures. End of May they bring livestock to Medrje. They stay three weeks and after three weeks move to Sleme. Grazing on pastures then moved two more times. So nature has time to regrow grass on pastures. That time pasture was still deserted. Visitors were only us who had snack here.

Wednesday-25.05.2017-Next was alpine pasture Medrje. As I mentioned, this pasture belongs to agricultural community of Zatolmin village. It is at height 1133 m. Lies on forest clearing under Visoč peak at foot of Veliki Stador. We reached it by marked path. Here livestock was already grazing and shepherds were there too. They kindly served us. We refreshed here too. It doesn't look so majestic as alpine pasture Sleme.

Wednesday -25.05.2017-By marked path we then descended to alpine pasture Laška seč. Where does this name come from. They explain name originates from 17th century when -lahi- cut wood here. We went past renovated buildings which more resemble vacation cottages. These cottages somehow don't fit into core of pasture. Pasture actually has five pushed into slope stables for livestock overnight below and shepherds above. These are Kletnikova stall, Ambroževa, Matejeva, Hrencova, Ivančeva stall and hut. The pasture itself stands on forest clearing at height 100m. Lies thus above Tolminka valley and west of church Sv. Duha at Javorca in middle of Slemena slope. Has renovated thus huts and dairy. Renovation took place 2012-2014 according to exact monument protection regulations and was ranked at European level as exemplary renovated pasture at top. Renovated with help of EU funds.

Wednesday -25.05.2017-Then we descended also past alpine pasture Črče. Path is marked, runs along fenced pasture. Fence must be crossed at two places even. Whole thing came out a bit awkward. Somehow we survived this fence riding. We went somehow just past pasture, whose buildings are a bit aside on left side of path. Pasture has some buildings in characteristic style of these pastures. Looks a bit abandoned.

Wednesday -25.05.2017-path then from alpine pasture Črče led us by forest path to Javorca, where is church Sv Duha. Somehow above Javorca itself should be alpine pasture Javorca. On path to Javorca we saw some ruins of long abandoned buildings, but I don't know if that's alpine pasture Javorca. Above alpine pasture Javorca a bit to left there is another pasture.

Wednesday -25.05.2017-From Javorca we walk to parking at alpine pasture Srednjico. Here seems renovated hut with big stable. Livestock not seen yet. Just twenty minutes further is alpine pasture Polog. Can see among trees some buildings. I have pictures of all pastures but unfortunately can't post them.

After two weeks I was back here. This time we went to Lužnica, Batognica and descended via Krnska škrbina towards the starting point. To the crossroads above the alpine pasture Leskovco we go left towards the Red Cliff. This time I could see the alpine pasture Zaslap closer, which is like a balcony under Krn. Already from the alpine pasture Kuhinja you see this last pasture under Krn. Already from there the red roofs are visible. They tell you - that red is Zaslap, that grey below is the alpine pasture Slapnik. The path from Krn somehow bypasses it - moves away as if wanting to leave it to oblivion. But not quite so. This pasture was known and visited by old settlers millennia ago. Somewhat above the tractor path just a little above the huts we find the Slovenian Stonehenge. Stone circle, more like an ellipse, not so mighty as the English one but completely equal in dimensions to the English one. So the ground plan of the English megalithic monument with diameter 31.4m is exactly the same as the stone circle under Krn. Around this our circle they excavated and found old pottery and more. Here ancient inhabitants came for religious rituals led by druids. This circle consists of 30 stones. They prospected the terrain here and found that inside the circle under the grass there is a sand circle, around the circle outside at least half a meter of earth. Below at the alpine pasture Kuhinja I saw the inscription circle too, but didn't know what it means. This so-called religious object, if we can call it so, they used for calendar, prayer and health. Unfortunately we didn't know about this circle, if not we would surely go see it. The path from Krn planina bypasses it. Next time this landmark, which we actually don't know at all surely I will visit and sit there and gather strength for further.
