I miss wanderings around Tolmin planinas. I think that would be a very nice and interesting report!

I haven't gone over Vršič yet this year. Maybe towards autumn.

I'm not wandering around planinas at all. My paths this summer are mostly above 2000m. Still, this week I was at planina Zgornja Dolga Njiva. There are several Planinas Dolgih Njiv. It's exclusively pastures where cattle and also horses graze in summer. It is the logical continuation of planina Spodnja Dolga Njiva, where there is a huge open-type planšarija with a lot of visitors. We reach it from Tržič to Jelendol and then straight on macadam to the last parking lot before planina Spodnja Dolga Njiva. Then we just walk past the planšarija. The path runs above the planšarija a bit uphill and already on the vast pastures of Zgornja Dolga Njiva. The terrain levels out here somehow, the pasture is good. Even a mini spring flows in the middle. The planina is fenced and high up towards the starting point for Tolsta Košuta or the geologically protected path Meli Košuta. The geological path is worth visiting. The path is excellently secured. At the end of the path there is even a rest area with panels and a logbook. From the planina on the left side there is also the upper path to Košutnikov Turn. This is an extremely beautiful panoramic path that I definitely recommend.

Finally I visited one of the planinas named Dolge Njive. It is a small pasture below the Zaplate ridge, more precisely somewhere in between below Cjanovca and Srednji vrh. The easiest way to reach it is from Mač to Hudičev boršt and then from there along the marked path to Srednji vrh. This path will take us right to the pasture. There is a small shepherd's hut on the pasture. The pasture is not big. This year I saw a herd of sheep here. There is a clear-cut towards Hudičev boršt. Somehow from the middle of the pasture there goes a direct marked path to Srednji vrh. We can also go further along the pasture to the right to Mačensko sedlo - also marked.

The pasture Dolga Njiva is not that small, as it is almost a kilometer long and extends into the slopes of Srednji vrh, Lanež and Mali Grintovec. The shepherd's hut is a weekend hut. But the pasture has no direct connection to Mačensko sedlo, which is on the other side of the Lanež ridge between Mali Grintovec and Bašeljski vrh.

From the Rzenik pasture we descend to the Dol pasture. Here there are only three buildings. Two seem to be used only as recreational buildings. One is functioning as a pasture. It is a living pasture - in summer they graze here.

Branko, I see that this time you hiked more around my mountaineering area and presented us with two nice pastures again. You are studying the pastures in our mountain world quite systematically and presenting them interestingly to us. I must say that you have thus made some of them appealing to me too, as I was formerly more enthusiastic about peaks than pastures, but now my attention is already willingly directed also to these beautiful alpine plains. As for J. Mlakar's literature, perhaps take one of his books in hand sometime, as he was a very witty and entertaining writer and his Mr. Trebušnik and stories related to him delighted me in my youth. lp

Yes, now it's time for those lower tours with pastures as long as the snow doesn't fall too soon.

Velkavrh, in short - nice pasture, a bit solitary, nice photos. Thanks! But two sentences bother me a bit, which contradict each other logically. "This path is long, it is also secured with cables in between. They drove livestock up this path to pasture."

I went along this path from Kokra to the Dolge Njive pasture a few years ago and I know it. At that time I started right from the church in Kokra. It's only a short section that is secured with two sets of cables. This path is also described here as one of the approaches to the pasture. Every summer I see horses grazing here. Whose they are and how they bring them up here I don't know. I haven't seen cattle here for sure more than ten years - I don't know exactly when last time. But I remember an old shepherdess who grazed cattle here about 25 years ago. Surely they brought cattle from Kokra along this path. Probably there were no cables decades ago. They were installed for the safety of hikers. Now towards winter I will focus on the pastures at Jezersko, which I have mostly not seen yet, and on the remaining pastures at Pokljuka. I'm buying snowshoes and will wait in winter for a nice sunny day.

Velkavrh, the description bothered me that the path is secured with steel cables. What about the safety for cattle and horses then? Thanks for the kind explanation.

Of course it confused you lino, because Mr. Velkavrh mixed up pears and apples again in his descriptions. Ejej They bring cattle and horses to Krvavec by road, from there Dolga njiva is accessible even for elephants. So no one guesses if the army flies them up by helicopter Meanwhile, they used to drive small livestock up from Kokra for pasture, which includes only sheep and goats, which easily climb even where some hikers need a rope for a safe step.

Dear Ana, to confirm my statements, read in the booklet -I Pastured Cows on Krvavec- published by the Drama Group Pod Stražo, Cerklje, 213-Compiled, prepared and edited by Breda Žargaj and Mira Gerkman. There you will find everything about the history of the Dolga njiva pasture on Krvavec. They pastured here already in the late antique period. It's an old shepherd's path from Kokra that they used back then. Just read it! I last saw cattle here many years ago-maybe 20 or 25 years ago together with that old shepherdess. Where they drove them up I really don't know. In later years I only encountered a herd of horses here. This year I missed them, but they were there. Every summer I see sheep here and also some goats.

Dear velkavrh, they pastured in antiquity. But small livestock was small livestock even back then, even if it bleated in Latin. If you're already citing sources, at least use the right and quality ones. Instead of the drama group's bulletin, you could use, say, a quality guide to the Kamnik Alps. Just like with the flowers, where you use foreign literature for identification and then discover unknown flowers in our hills. We have our own quality books. Am I rude to you? Yes, and I'm a bit embarrassed about it. But I simply don't understand why you're not, because you persistently post such "pearls" on the forum and neither good nor bad criticism makes you smarter.

In this bulletin, if I may call it that, sources and authors are cited everywhere. The bulletin is not some bav bab that someone just made up. Otherwise, there is plenty of literature on this topic in the library that can be studied. By the way, I have as many as ten handbooks on mountain flowers from various authors. Of course, most authors are Slovenes. I won't list them.

It's not about this pasture, but about Planina Prevalo under Begunjščica. A few years ago I often helped drive livestock to and from the pasture along the road from Draga past Planinca. The older gentlemen explained how they used to drive livestock to Prevalo through Luknja. I could hardly believe it myself and somehow it still doesn't make sense to me.
