May Day walk in the Landscape Park of Sečovlje Salt Pans stretched out to a full 6 hours along Fontanigga and 1 hour on Lera due to waiting for the right light. Almost 2 hours of rain in between was perfect for studying the exhibition material in three renovated saltpan houses.

Hard to describe with words the subtle beauty of the salt pans at Fontanigga, which stood out especially in the changeable weather. Unfortunately, instead of birdsong and wind, the path was accompanied by noise from neighboring Kanegra, where Slovenian students celebrated the first of May.

Otherwise, walking along Fontanigga is 9 km, on Lera about 2 km in both directions. On Fontanigga, the passage along the Giassi canal is closed, so a circular path from the Dragonja river mouth to the Salt Pan Museum is not possible.
at the beginning of the path the view barely reaches the Salina Museum and the sea in the distance1

A few archival photos - 3 years ago the salt pans at Fontanigga were still preserved. Let's hope they will be restored again, as it is a unique cultural heritage site unparalleled in all of Europe.

30.10.2014 was a day for scouting around Slovenian Istria.
Lots of driving over bumps to clustered villages, in between some short walks in pleasantly warm autumn weather. I noticed a couple of marked hiking trails, each village has info boards too. Unfortunately the day was too short for detailed inspections and longer hikes. Conclusion just before sunset in Piran, where the icy wind didn't invite longer coastal walks.

Redbull, I like that you know how to praise nice shots, even if they are not from daring ascents and ridges on the edge of possible for us ordinary hikers.

Nice pictures Suzana. Our coast is small but beautiful, especially if you venture a bit into its hinterland.
I've cycled there many times and always groaned over those Primorska hills, but it was always worth the effort. The surroundings outweigh the strain, all forgotten with good food and a glass of Refoškvelik nasmeh

Nice to admire the sparkling sea from peaks, walking by the sea and gazing at snow-capped Julians is a special experience.

On Tuesday, 12.1.2014, I used transport to Strunjan and spent a nice hiking day along the coast. Sadly hazes slightly marred the views, but hot sun created spring-like atmosphere.
On the Walking Paths map issued by Terme Krka Talaso Strunjan, 8 hiking paths from Strunjan are marked from 3.5 to 15 km. To Izola 6, to Piran 5 km. European footpath E6 starting in Finland also ends in Strunjan.

For me, the nicest shot is on picture 4. I go to the coast to admire cliffs usually from Izola to Strunjan, I like also that around Debelega rtiča. That's for me the nicest on Slovenian coast. Guaranteed beauty and inspiration in all seasons!

Panda, thanks. More than a hike, it was exploring. From Strunjan to Piran I went by car, the day was too short to cover all on foot. Even so, I walked properly.
Ločanka, I agree with you on the beauties of the cliff. Sadly, no luck with light, the coast was in shadow in the morning, so I couldn't capture the beauties of the rocks on the cliff and those on the shore in the lens. I hope next time light and tide align so I can walk the coast under the cliffs from Strunjan to Izola.

Rombon not for sure, because then to the left there should be two higher peaks, Prestreljnik partly hidden behind Kanin and Kanin, but they're not on the picture ... I think it's before Kanin, and Rombon is more to the right, that smaller one ...mežikanje
