A snake sheds its skin in the garden every year. Can someone tell me what kind of snake it is? Thanks

Exactly like that every year also twice in the roses by the sidewalk or by the fence. I think it's from the black one.

What species of snake would it be?

Definitely non-venomous, I think it's a smooth snake, but I might be wrong

You're probably right. Ours are black. This one is lighter.

I don't know it. A real acrobat in water. It hid under a stone in the water. Then peeked out. It was really funny.

If a snake has a round pupil it's not venomous. With an elongated pupil, like cats have, then the snakes are venomous. Best regards. Venčeslav.

That about the pupil applies to our snakes. Otherwise a bit unlikely... but we could run into some more exotic specimen escaped from a terrarium with a round pupil that's 100x more venomous than the nose-horned viper.

Probably dice snake. Dice snakes and smooth snakes like water.

Thanks to all three. Yesterday we saw that snake at 1600m altitude. On Predelske glave. It was guarding the top.

I found it interesting that we encountered an adder on the ridge between Škrnatarica and Dovški križ, which is already a solid 2400 m a.s.l. It was hissing pretty well. There really were a couple of grassy patches right there. As a curiosity, I'd ask if any of you noticed a snake even higher; books say up to about 2000 m, but I've already met some higher up.

Highest I've seen an adder on Travniški greben around 2200m and just below Koštrunovec - 2100m. Various rodents even above 2500, so food is available higher up too, and on a long day the snake warms up too

Oh, and this year also Brda, right on the top so a bit over 2160. So yes, they are regularly over 2000m.

Snakes are cool A few days ago we swam with a smooth snake in Pinja, it swam elegantly past me. I was a bit cold in the cold water, for it I wouldn't put my hand in the fire

Cool up or down, but I wouldn't want to swim side by side with a smooth snake

In the Kreda pond near Mojstrana there are quite a few smooth snakes. They don't mind if you swim by
