Most go to Špik Hude police from Pecol without skis. Today I went to this nice panoramic summit from Zajzera. Longer report here:
Since not all went to plan, I changed and around 9am ended up in Zajzera to check conditions above Špranja. First on ski trail, then at bridge to marked path, nicely snowy but hard, icy in places, with skins it went ok. Following tracks including Rok's to gully with falls. Continuing with skis didn't seem sensible, so put on crampons, skis and poles on backpack. Felt like kid carrying hay from Pohorje slopes in yoke again. Quickly passed familiar gully with ice falls known from previous years. At exit no point swapping crampons for skis, continued with crampons as snow held well. At couloir entry no tracks left (as Rok says), but found hiker tracks and used them. Ascent monotonous but not boring due to great views on surrounding peaks. Soon met step-maker, chatted, Austrian says super, but didn't get why he left skis so low. I went on, left skis on snow ledge ~250m past summit. Last meters to sun led by nice steps. Sunny side slight SW wind, climbed summit, sat a bit enjoying views. Then down to skis, prepped for skiing. As Rok described, upper part watch hard icy base, mostly great powder on "torn inflated". Below traversed right, hiked up trodden steps to small saddle, skied to pass between lower/upper Špranja. Pass hard, icy spots, torn by avalanches, but better than down gully with falls. Lower optimal through "thicket" hit well, then skiing along summer path on untouched snow to ski trail. If Hude police couloir more than excellent, lower part quite unenjoyable. Due to bad lower conditions, both notches above Špranja wait a bit. Nice ascent with lavish views.
