St. Jacob 806m

Today again to Katarina and to St. Jakob.
Weather warm, forests not yet fully dressed in autumn colors. Views to KSA and Julijce were quite satisfactory, considering that the Ljubljana basin, shrouded in smog, was hardly visible. We spent again some pleasant hours at our favorite excursion points.

Today I went to check the weathermen's forecast promising sun at 800 m.
Ljubljana of course in fog for a good week with temps below freezing.
Start from Žlebov into frozen forest decorated with rime. No sun on Pr' Mamovcu ridge at 700 m yet. Higher to the top it was already hazy foggy peeking from fog. Then I strolled to nearby Rog, met Raš Nesterovič and wife below Jakob with lovely kids (girl and boy). Played full 12 years in NBA across the pond, now no longer plays because he cares for little rascals. Says you get used to life in USA after a while too. Milič still plays something, my close neighbor. No stronger sun on top but pleasant hike worth it. Lp!smile

I feel like you won't have dinner today because you've stuffed yourself full of fogbig, but goal is the path and nice weather-appropriate pics anyway. Lp

Today winter walk to Katarina and St. Jakob. First through fog, somewhere from mid path from Slavkov dom, then little sun shone warming cold ears and hands. Path frozen in places, on return more muddy. We spent a nice day.

We know some enjoy trudging through snow up mountains, we enjoyed too even with no whiff of snow. After all we experienced and saw along path could say spring already peeking on Katarina slopes. Even little butterfly showed us the way a bit. But January on calendar, north wind made sure not to lose reputation.
The sun has pleasantly warmed.1

Wind is "cooool", says my better half rolling …and the more it swirls around corners (today in Ljubljana supposedly even roofs were blown away), the more it pulls him out. She suggests that during the midday break instead of the agreed lunch we go to Jakob eekside …hm, fair enough, maybe the wind will blow away my stubborn cold too, I think…wink.
Since we haven't gone up from Legastje yet, we choose this path today. Already from the starting point it is nicely snow-covered all the way to the top. The wind really pulled hard, we occasionally sank deep into drifted snow, up at the church nice calm…really nice and after almost a week I finally breathed again…through my nose winksmile
Already at the very beginning a pleasantly snow-covered path...1
Past old homesteads...2
They have nicely stocked up for winter... :-)3
Up there we go...4
And the wind has ruffled you like this...? :-)))5
Already in the forest it occasionally pulled strongly, what will it be like when we reach the open...?!!!6
...all as expected...it pulled even stronger... :-))7
...and where the wind made snowdrifts, it was like this... :-)8
A little below the summit....9
Just around the corner...10
And we're up there...11
From in front of the chapel, a nice view of Polh. Grmada and Tošč....12

O my dear Jakob,
I have come again into your embrace.
The morning sun was shining,
joy was boiling in me.
It was so warm,
as if sitting by the stove.

On the top of Katarina I sit a little
and surrender to the church bells' ringing.
After oats it smelled pleasantly
tickling my nose.
In the shade welcome rest
and much needed drink.

Sound of rustling leaves we wished for,
so hurried straight to nearby Katarina.

Colorful trees still enchant,
especially when sun rules over them.

Beautiful was today on Katarina,
memory of it will warm us in winter gray.

Otiv, I too admired today beautiful scarlet shades of all possible hues against blue sky, while climbing with MTB to Osolnik and on to Gontarsko plateau. In case of any still clear weather I recommend viewing these late autumn colors.

Otiv sets off on hike,
gathers impressions, notes much in head.

Many beautiful motifs tempt him,
so Otiv just snaps pics, snaps...

At home sits down, takes time,
composes words, seeks rhymes.

When inspiration strikes, enlightens him,
delights us with fine composition.

Two, three days after snowfall you don't go high, that's what experienced mountaineers used to say and then it's time for local hills. Yesterday track made to Jacob, I pull it further towards Katarina, or above, nice steep northern flanks, powder like a pig, then back trample to path and jump to Jacob. Tagi sank quite a bit but managed. Flatter part the skis went more slowly. Today also to Osolnik, where crazy good skiing under church, super slope, steep and wide enough to rip it, Nina figured she'll need quite some km to ski when snow knee-deep...wink

Spring calls to the plain
Otiv grabs it first
where else, but to Ljubljana's
mountain temple.
Of course to Katarina
for a fine coffee.
Latter more for rhyme
I prefer what comes through cow udders.
Walked of course also here on snow
and enjoyed the wonderful view.
From Blegoš to Očak
there to the last snow-covered peak,
Kamnik Mountains.

And again to Katarina,
for our "slim homeland".

This morning on Katarina there was only fog, but no matter, we came to stretch our bodies. On blooming heather one would think we're in mid-spring, unfortunately it's winter, which we don't all like too much.nasmeh

This morning I hopped to Jakob from Legastja up.
Roads desperately full of water puddles (žlabudrovina old name), so in the car it feels like surfing on a yacht. In Ločnica frozen rain fell at morning -1°C. Higher it felt even warmer, as south wind reaches hills first, valleys later. Up there an old ski track had been laid, iced over with almost 10 cm of last snow. On foot it was breaking through to the ankles first with light crust, higher probably a solid 4 cm crust formed overnight that uncomfortably cuts into the legs when walking on the whole snow, even with gaiters. Behind me came a hiker who couldn't boast with skis. He even had to watch his full weight backwards a couple of times so as not to be catapulted at a turn or catch the crust in front. Skiing practically zero. Down I was a couple of minutes behind him. The trip to Jakob was more strenuous than usual due to the crust. How tough conditions can be in high mountains we can only imagine.
