Picture 11 shows pyramidal cinquefoil. The yellow violet is Zois' violet. I also admired it yesterday on Struska.

I'm noticing that lately the weather in the mountains is better in the afternoon, despite the opposite forecast. Well, at least yesterday it was.
Since the fog on Belska planina wouldn't clear at all, and even thickened nicely, we decided to go higher anyway, at least to Kočna saddle (two saddles with the same name on the map). Well, I said something new, but we'll return on the border path. It looked promising for a while, with some ascent, but we ended up back at Močila pond, so kind of a loop. In fog, unmarked paths aren't recommended. Next time!
Return past Svečica, back to first Kočna saddle and on to Ptičji vrh with great views. Lots of flowers all along, except primroses at the hut almost gone, only one or two still perfect.

Road from Pristava to Križovec is passable (4x4 recommended), slightly snowy and partly icy. Further on more snow on road with some icy tracks and small drifts. Snow on Pusti rovt blown to ground. Continued on snowy road to Belska planina, about 10 cm snow. Struska awaits new shipment from sky. Climbed to Korenščica summit and returned same way.

A bit windy and cold. Well, it's winter. Gaiters came in handy, didn't use crampons.

This time we went to Struska from Javorniški Rovt. We followed the geo-mining path to Pusti rovt, which is mostly the same as the hiking path. Most of it is quite eroded from heavy rainfall and numerous streams, and muddy in many places. I don't recommend it like this, but more abundant snowfalls will significantly change things smile

We imagined the path from Pusti rovt to Struska as a pleasant ascent to an old acquaintance, but it turned out to be a complete mistake. High temperature and softened snow did their thing. Sinking into the brush, slips on softened slopes, and heavy snowshoes made the ascent much more strenuous than we had imagined in the morning. During our visit, only one hiker without gear made it to the top, but his tracks were very deep big grin

We returned by the road connecting Javorniški Rovt and Križovec. It is fully plowed overall, and most of it is iced to a high gloss, so be careful when deciding to continue driving.

Pristava Hut. We park at the arranged parking lot next to it

Below there is snow just for show, even above there is not much to see

For the beginning we set off across the meadows behind the hut

Soon we join the geological-mining path, which for the most part follows the same route as the mountaineering one

There is exceptionally little snow, snowshoes are not needed here

The path is eroded by water in many places and therefore uncomfortable for walking

In these parts ore was mined for ironworks needs and here are remains of a roasting furnace.

Storms have done their part, part of the path has been carried away.

Detour is right across the pasture. Above we join the cross road.

From the road we continue along the marked path to Pusti rovt.

After it we turn right onto the road to Belska planina. The snow is soggy and uncomfortable for walking, so we put on snowshoes.

View back at Golica, Dovška baba and Kepa.

We are all already on Belska planina. Due to the softened snow we must follow those ahead.

Snowshoes sink or slip. It is different after every bend.

Even higher there is even less snow, so not even the brush is covered.

We do not follow hikers' tracks, only skis have cut the slopes everywhere.

Ascent in warm weather and softened snow becomes a real strain.

Summit ridge is full of drifts and bare wind-scoured slopes.

On Veliki vrh, the highest part of Struška.

Amateur radio container just below the summit. Temperature is an incredible 10°C for December.

Descent is also strenuous. Softened snow does not allow pleasant walking, snowshoes are heavy as cement.

Towards Belska planina it descends along the summer variant.

Shepherd hut with wonderful view. In summer various treats can be obtained.

Return also by road. The upper path is unsuitable for hikers in these conditions.

The day is short and Pusti rovt is already in deep shadow.

From the rovta to the lower road we descend on the marked path, then we decide to continue on the road

The road from the direction of Javorniški Rovt to Križovec is icy, normally drivable only to the last buildings

We are already at the starting point. There are not many cars, some visitors are walking around the Dom na Pristavi

Some today's impressions from the nice circular path to Struska. Starting point - Križovec. The road is icy for a few hundred meters to the Križovec starting point, be careful when meeting vehicles.

Overnight on Struska summit, 29.-30.

Start from Jesenice past Kalvarija to Križevec. Snow started on road at turnoff to Belska planina (most probably cleared now). From planina up a gully, old path to bushes. There sinking to knees with 15kg backpack. To summit in about 5 hours. Windy, made small snow wall. Night about 5 degrees. Next day to Križevec same path, then right to Črni vrh and Planina pod Golico.

Today nice hike in beautiful winter conditions to Struska. At times cold wind was blowing, views wonderful. Today the road to Križovec was passable with winter gear, road is snowy and icy in places.

Struska is always a grateful goal nasmeh

. It is an excellent viewpoint, easily accessible in summer and winter. This time there was not much snow, but the access is still fully wintery. In places the surface is icy, elsewhere deeply drifted snow. I ascended along the summer path directly from the hut, using snowshoes all the way. This time it was an excellent choice, but winter conditions can change quickly.

The same goes for the passability of the road to Križovec saddle. Quite a bit is dry, but often there is compacted, partly icy snow on the roadway. Experienced drivers shouldn't have major problems, less experienced ones will have much more work. Where each one ranks, let everyone decide for themselves velik nasmeh

I park further from the Pristava hut a little below the last weekend house.

This is that weekend house. From here on the road has all sorts of surfaces.

There is a lot of bare ground, but in many places the road surface has compacted, smoothed snow.

At the Križovec saddle there are no cars yet. The road to Savske jame is closed.

The first records of mining in Savske jame date back to as early as 1381.

Planina Pusti Rovt. Due to wild parking, they have piled stones along the edge of the road.

Towards Belska planina I continue along the lower connecting road.

Valley fog reaches even Gorenjska, but up here it's a beautiful day :)

For now there is no one. A short break follows, then I free the backpack of its weight :)

The hut has an excellent location with a beautiful view of the Julian Alps.

I am ascending within the summer variant. Ahead of me are traces of only one hiker.

There is little snow, so the scree is not much covered.

This time snowshoes are an excellent choice. The slightly icy surface just barely holds the weight

Struška, or Veliki vrh. The summit logbook is trapped in an icy shell

Radio amateur bivouac just below the summit. Next to it I meet a Pole who struggled via the Austrian approach

No more snow in the valley, so the road to Planina Mavra is normally passable. We start walking about 15 min before the planina and continue gently. The road soon turns into an abandoned cart track and further into a path. Snow appears, but thanks to the predecessor, we step in his footsteps. The path joins the mountain trail from Trilobit Lake. At the planina we are lucky, the predecessor went to the shepherd's hut where we drank coffee and disinfectant. At the planina the tour actually just started, as we had to break a new trail to Veliki vrh. Snow on northern slopes is dry, loose and unconsolidated, on southern soft and sinking. Descent to Belska planina is somewhat trodden, but sinking due to high temperatures. From the planina we descend on an unmarked path that brings us right to the hut on Planina Mavra. To the starting point it's just a stone's throw along the road.

First of May Struška.

Some today's impressions from the wonderful path to Veliki vrh-Struška. On the path to the top there is still some snow, which poses no problems for walking.

Yesterday was a day for wandering. Although there wasn't much sun, we went to the hills. Up to Trilobita, to planina Seča to Belska planina.
Avriklji, gentians, spring marmot, violets, everything is blooming. Everywhere is full of flowers... nasmeh
