Today's start of our tour began at Pristava hut on Javornik Rovt. Due to my night shift we started the tour a bit later, for which we were rewarded in the lower part of the path with sunshine and nice warm weather. Today we were very lucky, as ahead of us a trio of ski tourers had already pulled a track towards Belska Planina on yesterday's traces of Mitja (caretaker of the pasture community hut). The ascent itself through the forest to Pusti Rovt went in the softness of fresh snow, but there was less than expected (about 15-20cm). At Pusti Rovt disappointment followed, as on wind-blown parts practically no snow, only in small drifts enough so it didn't squeak too much. Soon we were on the new road above the rovt, along which we ascended gently to Belska Planina. At the planina we refreshed in the hut with good company, chatted and decided not to go to Struska summit, because mists started appearing from SE and conditions for ascent would be poor (we'll return with better weather and conditions). Already in the afternoon we descended the ascent path, snow was very slow, but for opening new ski touring season more than satisfied. Hut open all weekends through winter until May, caretaker Mitja warmly invites all. LP Andrej

@andrejjerina. How is the road accessibility to Javornik Rovt? And where exactly does the path start? I've had problems before.

To the renovated Pristava hut it's always plowed, locals say even to Križovec. There are several paths to Belska pl. Two head towards Pusti Rovt, where we can go over Kočna saddle across Korenjščica, another from there right along new forest road, third at first Križovec junction turns right on forest road east and later steeper directly to Svečica, fourth variant goes before Pristava hut past HE Javornik Rovt lake across medji dol to LK Seča and there horizontally west across Struska slope to Pl. Svečica. Paths are long and sometimes hard to pass due to bushes not fully covered yet, applies especially to first and last approach. In fog orientation is hard, especially if new snow and wind obscure predecessors' tracks.

As for the description itself and path starting point, Rok has already described everything nicely to you. Yesterday the road past Pristava hut was plowed towards weekend settlement, towards Planina pod Golico and Križovec only a few hundred meters more, where the last vehicle with chains gave up. Further towards Križovec only old snow-covered track of off-road vehicle. We at first junction of Križovec-Pusti Rovt path went straight or slightly east, then on steep path to Pusti Rovt, where path joins the one from Križovec. LP Andrej

Today I set off from Trilobit hut to Seča, over Zijalka, Lepa Dolina to Veliki Vrh-Struska. Snow is firmly frozen, new powder in drifts, but anyway - no big problems. Ahead of me (probably yesterday) two went the same way with crampons (crust indeed quite icy), I didn't use them. Just watch for some "little holes" into which you could sink deeper..- break something. Mainly goes like on concrete surface: similar to Kriške Pode.. Time now surely most favorable! On Struska I met some skiers, one hiker. He assured he'll descend with crampons. Not wrong. Ridge not trodden: a bit crusty- powder. (that was reason I instead of to Vajnež decided left..) Well, I didn't regret. No wind, in sun quite nicely warm, though -don't go without sufficient clothing, headgear...!! Most favorable time, recommend! LP! h

Today to Belska planina Svečica: by car to middle of path between Pristava and Križovec, then on road and track. On path - some ski tourers (for them conditions quite good). Pusti Rovt: lots of ice. On planina powder in drifts. Hut open till 16. (OSNP) Caretaker told me about helicopter rescue action triggered by some otherwise experienced mountaineer who allegedly went into some kind of shock (severe nausea) due to content of energy drink can ingested. So careful with artificial drinks that -give wings-, they can also break them..

Struska today offered plenty of sun and nice views. With car can drive to Križovec, but for me in morning better a bit more walking. Road to Pusti Rovt is snowy, but due to stones in between, skiing not recommended. Upper road to Svečica quite trodden and allows skiing down. On forest traverses somewhat too little snow-dry on hard base, because hidden surprises below (log, rock). Up I arrived with dogs quite easily along west ridge all to summit. Down skiing was ok, as later after chatting with Miro Kodro (popotnik, mountaineer), went once more to first upper steeper pitch and enjoyed descent left of the gully. Sun already gaining strength, so frozen snow daily softens a bit. Tour still relevant at least one week.

A few more of my pics from rambling around Struška. From Križovec along path to Pusti Rovt planina, then right on new access road to Belska planina. To planina packed snow on path holds (100kg). Extended tour from hut to summit. Snow holds there too. Still need a bit of caution crossing flank below summit.

Hey, snowdrops in front of hut on Belska planina, already shyly peeking into light. Some coltsfoot too. Otherwise spring up there just starting. Still plenty snow, especially back. On Struška no wind, was super, bye Majda...

Majda hi, yeah nice alpine flowers, but three edelweiss posing for you is bullseye. That's real alpine tour when you meet locals too. Nothing else, nice. Best.

@velkavrh Hello! No secret, important we share our joys. Use compact Olympus type allowing close shots. Though sometimes annoys me this "new" tech, as before almost 50 yrs on film and managed it somehow, now relearning photography, my dear hobby.
