Is Košutnikov Turn doable? We're thinking a bit about conquering it on Saturday if the weather holds. Thanks for the info if you know anything.

I decided on a shorter one. Over Planina Dolga Njiva, first to the eastern then to the western peak of Tolsta Košuta. Path without features, only due to dew the grass was wet. On return I also went to Plešivec, where I hadn't been. Quite windy, but we're used to it. On planina also coffee and sour milk. Road at this end already in much worse condition.

If it helps: today snow started at Kofc altitude. Pleasant for hiking and except drifts not too deep.

Today on Veliki Vrh up to half meter in places else around 30cm, which as previous said pleasant for walking. On steeper grasses slid too. Probably similar on Tolsta Košuta. But in day or two completely different.

Some cross the entire Košuta ridge in one day, but yesterday we in a larger group wandered around the Long Meadows under Košuta, and a minority of us also climbed up to Tolsta Košuta. Yeah, as is suitable for each, since among our hikers there are also some of venerable years who still like to breathe in mountain air and relive memories of all they once traversed. The important thing is that our day passes nicely and that we all found something for ourselves.
In the morning we were a bit disappointed when we spotted quite a few clouds over the ridge upon arriving at the lower Long Meadow, but over time we were more and more happy for that natural shade so it didn't scorch our heads on the ascent. And the day ended nicely, even without rain, we with happy hearts headed home.
The parking lot welcomed us full of large-flowered foxgloves.1

we continued towards the hut along the entire length of Dolge njive20
we ran into a large herd of cows...21

..and Fuchs's finger orchid.27

Today on Eastern and Western peak of Tolsta Košuta, on the way back also to 1801 m high Plešivec. Weather, a bit of sun, a bit of fog, no wind, in short interesting. From pl. Dolga njiva to pl. Dolga njiva I didn't meet anyone.

Yesterday on Tolsta Košuta. Road to parking in good condition. Path to Tolsta Košuta also without issues...all in flowers. No snake seen...but quite a few chamois. Štruklji in the shepherd's hut at Dolga njiva excellent. No crowd yesterday.

The most unusual part of yesterday's (8.10.) trip to Tolsta Košuta was the road detour. I haven't experienced such a long and high one (road rises to 1057 m and more). We drove a solid hour from Tržič to the parking under Dolga njiva. To Jelendol there's no other way than this detour.
It was still dark, higher up fog too, so everything seemed very unusual to us. If it weren't very well marked at all intersections, we'd think we got lost. Then the road drops back right into the valley and there the detour to Jelendol goes left, to Dolga njiva right. We met no one, on the way back it was quite adrenaline-pumping, especially when a logging truck, excavator, tractors appear right in front of you... eek

At the shepherd's hut a sheep and rabbit were alone. Fog almost to the top of Zgornja Dolga njiva, but we trusted the sunny forecast and pushed on, which paid off. Some horses were still grazing. Probably used to getting treats from hikers, as one in particular walked alongside us for quite a while.

We found the passage through the bushes well and snacked at the fence on the border. Then we weren't careful that there's a good path on the other side of the fence and pushed along the worse little path by the cross fence then bit straight up the grass. Luckily I remembered the post on this forum that there's a path along the border. And we turned right towards the border and found the well-trodden path.

Almost cloudless sky, a little wind. This Gorenjska beach is really beautiful. Sea of fog on our side. Over the saddle under Košutnikov turn a real waterfall poured and tried to flood Carinthia but failed. Even on our side the "clearing" came and the bottom appeared. We weren't in a hurry at all, sat up there, sat then at the shepherd's hut and warmed in the sun. Carnations still blooming nicely. Idyll with beautiful ridge backdrop.
On Zgornji Dolgi njivi we both started to believe the forecasters.1
And do you have some treat for me?2
On the Gorenjska beach it is really nice.3
The misty waterfall tries to flood Koroška. ;-)4
Koroška is basking in the sun. 5
Zgornja Dolga njiva was now in the sun, now in fog. High and low tide. ;-)6
Under this scree right below the bench where we sat, then we went along the cross fence over the grass. The trail is behind the border fence and not visible unless you look over the fence. 7
Wonderful backdrop above the hut.8
The inscriptions on the pasture are really original.9
We can only hope that the addressees read and heed them.10
Only on the way back we saw this beautiful panorama from the high bypass.11
1057 m - the bypass rises even more.12

Under Krnica, past Dolga njiva, first to eastern and then to western peak of Tolsta Košuta.
A bit on grass, a bit on snow and it went without problems. Nice weather with little wind.
Didn't meet anyone.

Beautiful day was calling for a hike, so today to Tolsta Košuta. Never been there before. Views wonderful again. It was cloudless. Planina Spodnja Dolga njiva glowing in blue. Besides all other blue flowers, gentians blooming full. Really wonderful.

Just adding that in Medvodje logging and timber extraction is ongoing. You might have to wait a bit for workers and foresters to finish current work before you drive past. Have to praise them that they really try not to hold up traffic too much.

Hello,
How far can you drive on the road to the starting point (where is the starting point actually?)? What's the road condition like? Possible with a regular car?
Thanks for answers, Regards

But someone above has already warned about logging and possible road closures. Maybe it's a bit worse from Medvodje onwards, but usually you can reach the parking lot with a regular car.

The road is normally passable. A little further from Medvodje there's a short stretch of slightly worse road, but otherwise no problems.

On every trip it's nice, but often it's like this: when impressions settle after a day or two and pictures from memory rise again, the experience revives and overwhelms you with even greater enthusiasm than on the trip itself. That's why you don't need to go on trips every day or every other day, as you don't even gather all impressions from one trip, you're already eyeing the next. Sure, but not right away, first you need to sum up impressions from one trip, because you don't experience everything at once on the trip. If you wait a day, another picture adds up right away, another view, maybe from someone else who's been there too. The experience isn't just for that day, impressions fill your heart for some time. If you view the trip that way, of course. But a trip can leave you empty, and not even new trips help fill the void in you. Luckily not for me, I can live off one trip for a long timenasmeh.

Well, the enthusiasm for Friday's Tolsta Košuta, joined by Plešivec, has grown so much that I no longer think it's not necessary to go up there anymore. That it will be enough. Now I think the opposite, maybe another time of year, in late autumn or when the mountain is covered in snow. Yes, even because of the chamois right under the ridge summit, it would be worth going on this path againnasmeh.
