Is there any snow left up there???

At Katarina it's grassy, higher up still some snow, but not much (info from Katarina camera), Ljubljana is snow-free, surroundings still covered with thin compacted snow blanket on meadows, snow piles survived too and are hard as concrete.

Today we were on Tošč from Mačkov Graben. Snow about 20 to 30 cm and dry and light. To the saddle between little and big Tošč we were first and broke trail through all the snow. There someone overtook us and spoiled all the fun. It was cloudy and we saw nowhere but still nice. Some caution is not superfluous as snow sinks to the ground and sometimes you step on something unexpected (root, slippery stone).

After long rain I head on Christmas day to the nearby Tošč to stretch the legs a bit.
Drive to Rovtar, turn right across the stream. On steep Via Dido, which gets you fastest to Tošč. Up in gullies still up to 30cm southern, already compacted snow, allowing good walking. In between first light drizzle at around 2-3°C, later rain eased, but plenty of fog still. Up top as only visitor since 17.12. enjoy foggy, peaceful still life, then head over Mali Tošč via Gontar to valley. Today one mountain runner went up, as completely dry ridge allows access only with sneakers. Lp and GOOD LUCK with positive feelings into the new year coming.nasmeh

@viharnik Hello!
I think it's almost 40 years since I went to Tošč and always felt good like you today. Thanks for reviving my memories and good luck on mountain paths in the coming year 2011.

@otiv, back then I wasn't walking yet, but discovering the first stimuli and feelings of the world in which I was. Soon I also strayed first from the home house, then on trolo or bike, later on automatic to Žlebe with friend from Medna where we always started. Paths to Polhograjci were thus much longer, and tastier because along the way we used up some nearby farm tree. After long hike to Tošč and over Katarina and jeterbenka, we just lay on ridge grass for 10 min - paradise we exclaimed and on to Medna home.jezik

From Tošč there are poor views, especially in summer, the best are from Sivka, check my pics in the Sivka thread.

If a person realizes they are not made of sugar, the trip to Tošč even in the rain is a real treat.
I start the path at Rovtar along Via Didi past the waterfall. The path is slippery in places, but not so wet, because at this steepness everything drains quickly. Higher through the forest hollow, the path is wide enough not to pick up water from vegetation on pants. Higher on the ridge, a little breeze of light rain from the east intensified the feeling of cold. The summit was wrapped in fog, but today I did not come for the view but to measure its height. Garmin showed that Tošč took the title of the highest mountain in Polhograjci. It beat Pasja ravan by a whole three meters. So Pasja ravan was back then, when the JLA army had not yet leveled it by a whole 10m and set up air defense there, later our Slovenian army had a comms base up there higher by 6m than Tošč. On the path I met no one except some cheerful lizards scurrying around. I also measure the height of the saddle between the Toščs, which is 908m. Return to the valley via the ridge junction (table) 845m, where the track goes to Gonte or Kozjek. Lp!nasmeh

On a beautiful sunny and hot Saturday I went with hikers from PD Ravne na Koroškem (we were 40, all together around 150, Jesenice folks for two buses) to the 126th steelworkers' hike to Tošč and Grmada. Start was at half past nine in the morning in Polhovem Gradec or a bit further, near Pograjski dom. To Tošč took under two hours of walking, where there was a short break, stamping and snack, then we continued the path towards the somewhat more scenic Grmada. After snack and stamping we descended towards Setnica, on the way we also stopped at the tourist farm Pr Mehačk, then continued towards Polhovem Gradec or to Pograjski dom (another cca half hour walk), where the hike ended. Initially the weather served us excellently, it was hot and humid, but in the end the conclusion or party at Pograjski dom was spoiled by a strong thunderstorm with hail the size of hazelnuts, the largest specimens also the size of walnuts, lightning flashed as if for a bet, it poured just like from a bucket, in short it was like doomsdayeek.
Otherwise nice area (only 15 km from Ljubljana but this Polhov Gradec seems very remote to me or like arriving at the end of the worldeekvelik nasmeh), it was my first time in these parts and I must say they will remain in my good memory. (But nothing beats Koroškavelik nasmehnasmehmežikanje).

Maybe someone knows what the road condition to Dom na Govejku is like? Now I'm thinking of heading to Tošč, but don't even know where Rovtar farm is. I think I'm still early enough to go from home now.
Thanks and best regards.

Katty, Rovtar farm is a bit further from Legastja inn (turnoff to Govejek). You drive from there along the main road another approx. 500m, where right before the steeper ascent of the road to Katarina the road to Rovtar branches off-sign. There you drive to the end of the valley (parking for 4-5 vehicles). You can go to Tošč also via Govejek with some orientation and map knowledge. Also via Omejec farm (at the entrance to the valley to Rovtar after 300m right) you can approach Tošč.

@ biso and Jus

The colleague wanted advice, but you two in the style of "hit the poor guy". I think, yeah, it's no wonder that Slovenes are seen as the most narcissistic nation. Otherwise study and put yourself in the shoes, when you yourselves need advice and then get such a response. I'm curious about your facial expression and opinion.

@Viharnik...hats off, that's how it's done, that's a real mountaineer!

How many times have I read various reports and checked various maps.... and still missed some turnoff, exit or whatever on some gravel roads. Sorry that farms are marked on all mapszmeden. Even if you see on the net where something is: on the terrain it's a completely different picturemežikanje

Besides, some of us like to chat here and there, face to face or also on the forum, and ask for some info, not because we can't be bothered to look on the map or don't know how to read maps, but just to expand social networks or because sometimes it's nice if someone gives you a tip on the direction, then also suggests some other route that's not described or advises what to eat in some hut or where it's better to park or gives any other infonasmeh that comes in handy one way or another.
I think the forum is meant for exactly thatmežikanje

Well, I found my way. The trick is that I read the description before and checked the map, so no commenteekmrk pogled. Just like that, maybe it says somewhere on some map where each farm is????eekzmeden Maybe on yours, which of course must be custom-made just for youeekzavijanje z očmi. Sorry, but I don't have everything in my head.... Look, and this too: with such a question you don't come off as stupid, as you think, but maybe you get some useful info via the forum and some individuals that might come in handy for you too!!!velik nasmeh Get it?? Ah, maybe not, judging by your comment.
viharnik, thanks for all the infomežikanje...yesterday I went to check beforehand where to go. There I followed the signs and went right, then of course on the asphalt road. Then I turned right just before entering the forest-mistake. Then today I saw that I should go straightnasmeh, and then leave the car there by those wooden sheds.
Otherwise the path is nice, somewhere the markers kinda disappeareek, but the last part is really nice. It was gloomy weather, so no views either, but me and one gentleman weren't convinced not to go to Tošč. On the way there's quite some snow, lots of damaged trees-due to heavy snow, which is really too much on the path in places. But you have to be careful on the way back, as it was pretty wet. Most dangerous on grassy areas and tree roots, as you can slip quickly. Thank God I didn't end up on my butt, but really I was quite cautious.
Next time to Polhograjska Grmada, maybe even from Polhovo Gradec.

viharnik, do you maybe know which peak is on the left side of the saddle, while going to the right side towards Tošč? I was there today too, it says on the tree 907m, but nowhere does it say what the peak is called.
Thanks and best regards.
