To the parking lot in front of the Valvasor Hut. The road is muddy and passable without issues.

...Road not plowed. Otherwise the trail from Završnica over meadow and through forest is well trodden. But caution, snow covers icy parts of the trail. Hut is open. No winter fairy tale. No snow-covered spruces and such. Well, we still enjoyed, čav ŽIMM...:

For the trail we spent 5 hours (with short break in the hut), walked 14 km, total ascent 720m, elevation difference along the trail 1250m. l.p.

Today: short jump to Smolnik. Steep path branches off left at approx 1/3 of the way from Zavrha (at the cylindrical stone E/K). Descent via this one is not very safe at the moment. I'll go again because of the description. On the way to Valvasor as always quite a lot of hikers.

Yesterday we participated in a night hike to Valvasor Hut. It was wonderful as it was snowing. The path was not icy. There were also a lot of sledders.

I'm interested in opinions, namely since I've never been to Stol in winter, I'm wondering if it's suitable for a visit in this winter season!
And if yes, would crampons alone suffice?

Does anyone perhaps know what the conditions are like at Valvasor Hut? Is the road drivable, dry to the hut and if not up to where is the road drivable?

From the junction from Završnica you can drive at most another kilometer or less. The road won't be drivable for quite some time, especially not given the forecast in the coming days.

The Žirovnica path means you go from Žirovnica on foot up , not that you drag yourself up with the car.

Thanks for the answers, although they didn't help me much. We're actually going for training to the hut and not on some mountain tour or to Stol especially now not, when the avalanche danger is higher.

@terminator.. basically parkeljc has told you everything.. from the stump it's still about a kilometer.....even better is to google a bit and call the hut keeper, he'll probably give you the freshest info..

That less-than-an-hour walk shouldn't present problems, especially if it's training.. carrying gear is also part of it...
