From Lesce onwards, the morning woke up in crystal clarity.
I drove to Rudno polje, where the morning showed only 0°C, and started the ascent partly on grasses, higher on slippery muddy path. Snow appeared before Kačji rob at just under 1800m and the path was immediately softer and more interesting. In the shade, the snow had frozen to such an extent that it crunched properly underfoot.
Below Srenjski preval, the sun had already melted the snow in the early morning, but the grasses were somewhat slippery. I planned to cross under MDV to VDV, but judged the path too dangerous with such a thaw; with new Petzl-Charlet crampons, it would be a shame to grind them on rocks right away. Also on Viševnik 200m lower, pure winter fairy tale. At the top I revived a snowman and hope it will last until the first cooling up there. To VDV some ascended via Pl.Konjščica and Studorski preval on SE ridge, which was not difficult. Short nice tour before the face of Daddy.

Today(28-11-2013): Viševnik in the sun and almost no wind, so it was - even mid-week, well visited, both by ski tourers and hikers (postholers).
Otherwise briefly: road from Bled/Gorje to Rudno polje dry and without issues, further to the cable car the footpath due to logging and timber hauling is "ruined". But winter idyll starts from the drag lifts onwards, ski slope is groomed but not yet operating, higher above it to the saddle and over scree snow (about half meter) sinks a bit, but no issues, path already quite well trodden, and "tracks" also cut. Higher on the ridge and below summit less snow, as it's windblown. From summit onwards, towards Srnski pass, no traces of crossings seen yet.

Yesterday with Nina to Viševnik. I wanted over Kačji rob, but Nina was on foot, only ski tracks visible, so we stuck to the classic. Quite a lot of people for mid-week, inversion so strong you could walk in short sleeves, meaning snow was poorer, conditions totally different than days before! Result was AVALANCHE, which we saw up close, as three of us were preparing for descent a bit below summit, it cracked and huge mass went towards Konjščica!! Total shock seeing it so close, what power it has!! Luckily no one on its path, or it wouldn't end well. So; careful in mountains these days, especially steep grassy southern slopes are very dangerous...

That's right! The linear crack is very visible. Otherwise nothing else to expect without prior snow base...

Combination of circumstances with new snow that fell on warm grass, froze underneath, later surface froze, then finally thawed again, and we know how thawed ice slides on any base .

First tour of the year. Lots of visitors, mostly skiers. Plenty of snow, summit accessible with proper caution. Crowd at Rudno polje on return. Good luck to all 2014
