Tinky, I was up there from Friday to Sunday - with family skiing. Without poles and without crampons! My remark was just well-intentioned.

I recommend watching Educational film - How to survive in winter II (4:50 onwards): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_SdAxRhAIE

I don't dispute PD. But when the path to Šmarna gora is icy, we go several times with crampons, but I have never seen anyone with ice axevelik nasmehvelik nasmeh So much about "never".

Last one on this topic. Driving schools teach driving. Wonder what roads would be if everyone drove by the book. CHAOS.

Today on Viševnik via western gully. Great tour, weather super - warm, no cloud, no wind. Perfect.
Conditions though are - well, quite varied. Foot track ends at Konjšica, further only individual ski tracks. So from pasture to gully entrance followed really horrible ascent through snow covered by thin crust that doesn't hold human weight. Horrible sinking. Conditions in gully were conversely almost ideal. Hard creaking crust where crampons grip excellently enabled fast and enjoyable ascent. This ended a bit before summit when path comes to sun again, so on last ascent faced some sinking again. But that part didn't spoil excellent gully impression, we stepped on summit widely smiling. Descent via normal path no peculiarities, winter gear recommended here too (though many go without).
Anyway, can only recommend the tour, advise early hour so largest part of gully still in shade. Otherwise in mountains it's always useful.

A couple of my pics from today - I continued also to Mali Draški vrh. On MDV a nice track has been made or rather some steps but somewhere you have to go over rocks and it's quite awkward because it's more like scree...

Today a beautiful sunny day on Viševnik. The path is quite trodden, where it's not, it sinks easily. Crampons recommended for descent.

Today there were lots of visitors on Viševnik
no problem with access, goes without crampons too at least when the sun shines in the morning or at night it's a different story, anyway whoever stayed home can regret it nasmeh

Yes, today there was quite a crowd at the summit... and very suitable weather nasmeh

Regarding crampons I'd say I recommend them for descent at least on that part just below the summit. At least some small ones.

Aha, no sinking (at least on trodden path) practically none, little snow, path well beaten.

Today super day and no one anywhere. We turned right over Kačji rob but turned back a few meters below summit due to strong wind, snowing and fog. Crampons warmly recommended on exposed spots, poles necessary too, snow sinks to knees in places nasmeh

Today to Viševnik on skis from the north. I followed the track past Mali Selišnik, which I also climbed. Then further under Veliki Selišnik to Srenjski preval. Here untouched powder tempted me and I plowed into the gully under the pass. Then back once more and on to Viševnik.
Since the northern sides were still pristine, I descended north right below the summit and then skied powder over Kačji rob to the road and further to the ski area for hydration.
Such tours are just right for the soul.

The southern path is normally passable.velik nasmehvelik nasmeh
